My wife is OK with the whole idea which I think its great. She also plays civ 3 usually at monarch but she can beat Emperor if she wants to. Shes studying to become a specialized MD so I can play while she studies and everything is OK.

My wife protests vehemently when I do not pay enough attention to her and then she does things to make it impossible for me to concentrate. 
That's one of the reason's I have Civs installed on the lap top so I can play when I am off on assignments and she is not around.

I'm not married, but my girlfriend doens't like civ3 much. She prefers watching TV and commenting on it, while I make agreeing sounds to her comments... (often hardly hearing them)....

I pretty much only play in the middle of the night, after my kids have gone to bed.
Let's just say that I limit my playing civ to the GOTM games. This way, I'm at least part of the month able to give her the attention she apparently lacks when I'm playing 
.
Since I'm new at this posting stuff, I wanna thank cracker and the entire GOTM team for setting up a great game every month.
I can't even comprehend the amount of time and effort these people put in to this (certainly not without getting killed by their significant others 
). That I mention this here, is that while I'm greatfull, my wife would probably kill cracker at first sight (if I were to devulge he is responsible for my lack of attention 
)!

My wife does the ironing whilst watching Soaps on TV after the kids get to bed. She barely tolerates me spending any time on the computer, but when she's ironing and soaps are on and there are no chores she can think for me to do I'm "OK-ish".
To compensate, I pretend to have to work late most nights and spend an hour after work playing CIV on my laptop. My wife thinks I'm working late, my boss thinks I'm working late, I win both ways..
Of course if anyone should tell either my wife or my boss about my deceitful behaviour, things could go very badly for us both

. My wife just think Civ3 is a dangerous addictive drug that is not compatible with raising 4 childs (8, 6, 2, 1). I would agree with her, except I love the challenge of the GOTM + the learning.My solution is to play as much as possible at odds hours (lunch break / after work but before retruning home / even in my car
)So I have to rush my decisions and can not concentrate enough.

I spent a lot more time playing thet month and I started to get the acid comments, "Spending the night with your computer again!", "Are coming to bed tonight? Or shall I bring you a blanket and pillow", you know the sort of thing.
In the end I compromised but didn't manage to complete the game in time to submit.

My husband is usually on the next computer (we have a very decent setup in the attic) tinkering on our family website. I guess I'm lucky . It was he who introduced me to civ2 many years ago so he can't really complain now .

Mm- answered this is another thread. She trades extensively on Ebay. This keeps her occupied while I carry out my Civ activities. If I cold find a way to occupy the dogs too, I could get another couple of hours in ......

She can't stand it. Now that I have a laptop from work she thinks I've become a workoholic. Come to think of it, my boss does too. I still wait til the kids go to bed and the wife starts watching drivel on the TV. Then I sit the the back of the screen facing her and play away. I have been trying to go to bed at the same time though.

Either I've gotten really good at multi-tasking between Civ and listening to what happened during her day or she just thinks I have.
Then her phone rings and it's her mother/sister/friend and I'm off the hook...

My wife hates civilization with a vengence. I think it has to do with the amount of time I spend at it. My biggest problem is she doesn't understand that my admin role has nothing to do with playing the game. In her eyes they are the same. So whenever I am processing the results she considers that playing. 
Oh and Cracker if you ever come to NJ keep a low profile. For some reason she associates your name with my increase in playing time.

She hates it! Usually she is sleeping or not home from work yet. My prime play time is from about 10:00 pm to 2:00 AM or 6:00 - 7:30 PM when she is working late.
My favorite time to play is on Saturdays and Sundays when our 2 year old is napping from 2:00 - 4:30 PM. Provided the "honey do" list is completed.

She doesn't mind it at all. It has actually become part of the routine, get home from work, have dinner and then she askes,' Is it time for us to go play your game? We both sit up in my computer room and watch TV, while I play Civ and she reads her magazines.
The sad part is that downstairs I have a 65" widescreen HDTV, but we usually end up watching TV on my old beatup 25" crap TV, where the color is all messed up. But that's where the Civ game is, so that's where we go.
However, listening to her stories and watching TV, one does lose track sometimes. Like " Where did the Americans go?" Oh, I guess someone destroyed them!! or like, Hey, where did that army come from.
