Failure to announce quests

I was playing the game as usual, and then I got this message
"1525 AD : You have failed the quest of the Harbormaster".
O....K, so when was it announced then ?
I went through the whole event log, and found no mention whatsoever that their was an ongoing quest.
If you get a message that a quest fails, shouldn't you also get a message that a quest has started ?

I also feel like something is wrong about quests because i didn't receive a single quest in my last game. I keep getting the same events over and over but does not receive any quest.

Do you have any earlier saves? Can you go back through those and see if it was in the quest log previously?

That event requires compass (which you got in 1210AD) and expired when you discovered steel.


Edit - It appears that starts of quests aren't being recorded in the log. You must have been given the quest, but missed the message?

I think a on-screen persistent number for the number of active quests, as well as a log entry that a quest has been given, would be a good enhancement.

I thought I missed the message as well, that's why I went through the entire log but couldn't find it. Just the "you've failed" message is there.

And indeed a alternative way to announce and remind players from available quest would be handy. Same thing for enemy activity near your cities of borders (when barbarians are near for example). If you could still view them after having gone through all the initial screens by pressing a button like for resources.
