Fall with Fleme

OKI. I'm always one discussion late, but I agree with everything.
Short turnset are fine, so we all have our say in the dawn of our civ.

And I'm currently playing a solo game as austrin, since I'm not yet familiar with them.

Somehow I think that "urvivor camp" was supposed to be our first quest Lymond. Looks fairly good so far.

Foxfire is a normal feature of FF. I assumed Fleme's quest marker's were of his own design.

Not talking about Foxfire, look into the fog SSW of the capital, and you'll see what I mean. The edge of the sign was even in the opening shot.

P.S. I was kidding, just in case.

Wow! I never would have seen that if you didn't mention it. I only see it as I panned out to the globe view. You may very well be right. It's very close. I wonder if there are any "urvivors" down there :)

Got the save. I'm off to work now and will be back in 5~ hours tops to finish the modifications and will post the save then. Next up is Jarrema.

Ok
let's discuss some things.
1. I would gladly go for a quest... but where?
If it was my call, I would go for 'Urvivor camp'. Any thoughts?

2. As for Foxford: I believe we DO NOT need a hero from Foxford (what use will we have for another unit with adventurer promotion?). But I never chose second option, so I do not not where it can lead us

3. There are new good spots for new cities, for example 7w from capital, or next to the Foxford.

EDIT: I will play aproximately 14 hours from now.
I understand I should stop as soon as I hit a quest mark... so it will be 5 turns or less

Hold your horses though, I will post the playable save in some 3+ hours. I've got the quest texts written down but I need to get on my own computer to do the necessary changes to the game itself.

lymond hit the quest mark of Fizziks' Workshop with a recon unit so that triggered the first quest and spawned your first hero. From thereon, quests will be available to that hero (and other heroes) only. But yea, I'll post in more detail when I get off work.

First DM intervention:

Here's your first hero, Gryndane, using the model of Martyrs of Patria:

gryndane.jpg

Quest 1: Gryndane the Protector

Spoiler :
Gryndane the Protector

Well met, hero. You are the champion of the Austrin and on your sholders lie the safety of this realm. For the time being, it is you and only you who is responsible for taking care of several threats looming on the budding Austrin nation and you cannot let them down.

Q: Gain 7,5 experience.

R:
Gain the Phoenix Blood promotion. (Resurrects you in the capital when you die) If used, however, half of the experience gained will be removed from the hero and the coming of your next hero will be delayed. Reward will be placed on the next switch.

Quest 2: Echoes of Foxford

Spoiler :
The explorer council of Telyhohn has taken an interest in the recent discovery of Foxford and the op-portunities it might hold. The talks of lycanthropy have piqued the interest of many of the older councilmen, some are even saying that if we could harness and control this ability and that it would perhaps enable us to have these creatures to serve as inexpensive border patrollers. They task Gryndane with the decision on what to do.

Additional information:

The scout report from Foxford, as recorded in the first Telyhohn chronicles of the new age:

[The village [of Foxford] is eeriely quiet with people hiding in their huts. No-one comes to greet us and the villagers have begun fighting with one another and some have started a vigilante patrol, imprisoning anyone who is even slightly suspected to be infected with lycanthropy. There is a smoldering pyre in the village square and the stench of burned flesh fills the nostrils. After a quick look around, a lightly armed vigilante patrol commands us to leave. In compliance with the explorer council rules, we complied.]

The decision/options:

1) Start your own search for the lycanthrope and try to convince them to join you and leave the village alone. [Neutral]
2) Help the villagers in their search for the lycanthropes and dispatch of any that you encounter.[Good]
3) Burn the entire village and not risk lycanthropy spreading to your lands. [Evil]

Whatever you decide, Gryndane needs to visit Foxford. [screenshot when you’re there]. This is a no-time limit quest, so there’s no hurry and you can play this to your advantage. Delays might mean destruction of the village and the escalation of the situation, however.

For this quest, and this quest only, the options have the tags neutral, good and evil from which you choose your path. The choice is not that simple, however. Even though some choices may seem preferable to others, they may have future implications on your game and the development of your heroes.

Since this is one of the first "real" quests, I will explain:

[Neutral] Saving the werewolf, given that you even locate it and then relocating it is a solution that is on the surface a win-win for both parties. However, here you risk the lycanthrope going feral (if you find it and capture it (this is done with a die roll by yours truly), it will have promotions that give it a % per turn chance of going barbarian and declaring on you. It might kill you entirely. Really, a werewolf is powerful enough to kill your entire civilization alone. However, if you survive an entire set with the werewolf not going feral, it’s yours with no risk of jumping ship anymore and might prove to be an invaluable asset; even a future Beastmaster hero perhaps. But can you contain it?

[Good] Helping the villagers and getting rid of the lycanthrope (again, if you find it) is a safe way out. It is unlikely that there is any benefit in this option while there’s also little risk to complement this. Ultimately, staying on the good path will however work wonders if you are building a Guardian out of your Ranger.

[Evil]
Burning the village entirely is the evil thing to do. Murdering hundreds of people, ditto. However, this option has the chance for you to discover items, gold as well as the chance to gain some of the more “brutal” promotions. One such act might not give you a free promo but keeping on a path will make the hero in to a, in a word, killer.

Most quests have an underlying alignment. At times it is obvious while other times it’s not. Occasionally these choices will affect your heroes while other times they won’t. You do not have to do all the quests and can opt out if you do not want to make that call or think that it’s best to leave some things undone. Later on, you can adjust to these situations by sending a select hero to do the grim tasks while leaving the neutral/good guys out of the nasty business. Maybe those evil deeds won’t taint your nation as a whole if they’re committed by an individual?

Finally: This particular quest requires mutual decision/majority vote on your approach.

Quest 3: Fizziks versus the Undead

Spoiler :
Visitors! Oh how glad I am to see another living being wander these parts… because frankly, this desert is what some people would go right ahead and call haunted. Me? Not so much. However, whatever is happening here and the recent increase in the activity of the less than alive creatures are bothering me and throwing a cog in my gears, if you will. As if I didn’t have enough problems without them. Psh.

Who am I? I am Zik Fizziks, head of the third Erebus surface expedition of this age, a scientist and an inventor extraordinaire. It was I, who came up with the (in)famous Fizziks Brazier, it was I who subdued a Hill Giant with my Helm of Domination. I sir, am a Goblin of the highest order. Who are YOU?

Ah, I did not mean to come across that strong. Truth be told, I need your help. You remember that Hill Giant I mentioned? That miserable cur Ge’err took off with some of my most valuable equipment with him…. [What can I do with these shrubs? They’re in the way of everything! If I ever get my hands on that coward of a giant I…] and went to hide In a steading not too far from here to the west but that is not why I need your help right now, I have more pressing matters at hand. Look to the northeast. You’ll see that there are Barrows, burial mounds to the distance. I first imagined them to be burial mounds of some ancient war, but it seems their gates have opened up and that the fallen of that war are not as much resting forever as taking up arms and crawling out of their crypts. Picture me a coward if you will, but I’m not quite yet equipped to fight an undead horde… Perhaps in a year or two if I can get my equipment back and can set up a few of those braziers I mentioned but now? Not so much.

So I’ll tell you what. I’ll be the brains of this operation and you the brawn. You look like a strong lad by anyones standards and I can definitely make it worth your while if you choose to side with me… Please? I’ll let you get in on some of my inventions if you do.

DM Note: Be careful when popping Barrows. They might end the life of Gryndane prematurely if you get reckless. Meaning, use the Rogue to support, leave moves so you can run if necessary.

Q: Destroy the three barrows closest to Fizziks’ Workshop before they spawn too many skeletons to overrun it.

Reward: Your choice of one of the following items for Gryndane: (majority vote)

Boots of Speed (+1 movement speed)

Travelers Cloak (-1 terrain movement cost)

Enchanted Blade (+20% strength)

Spoiler for quest ending text when you are finished clearing up the barrows: DO NOT READ UNTIL COMPLETED

Spoiler :
Thank you, thank you, thank you! It would seem that the matching of our brains and brawn make quite the combination, no? I’ve taken the liberty of shipping a seeing stone to Telyhohn so you can keep an eye out on the desert as well through my latest invention, the Ooglamatron 300x, my latest invention in observation technology. The convoy should arrive there shortly. Anyhow… Since your intentions are clearly amiable and you seem to get things done, how about a new mission? You know I’ll make it worth your while. [Available at the next switch]

Quest 4: The Lizard Threat:

Spoiler :
The Lizard threat

It has come ot the attention of the Explorer Council of Telyhohn that the southern jungles are filled with Lizardmen guarding the remains of their ancestral empire and they are hostile towards anyone conducting exploration in the region. Therefore, the hero Gryndane has been ordered to take care of the threat by decreasing the numbers of Lizard patrolmen on our borders. The matter is of great urgency.

Q: Gryndane: Explore/Destroy one Ruin, kill 2 Lizardman units (screenshots)

R: Unknown

Lurker Comment:

Just droping by to say that this is showing all the ingredients necessary to be an epic game.

I'm waiting anxiously for the next turns!

Fleeme, I suppose that 'Q:gain 7,5 experience' means we will gain those points for doing quest.
But what the' R:' stands for?

EDIT: nevermind, I know it now

Q2. I think that we should go either with neutral or evil option in case of Foxford.
As neutral option can be dangerous, if we choose to do that we should wait. But if we choose slaughter, let's go for it :)
Q3. Undead are tough. Let them be for a moment
Q4. This seems to be a good quest for us. Let Gryndane with some help (rogue) go there after making first quest.

Q1: would it be automatic success? do free xp count towards it? Or maybe our hero do not gain free xp?

Anywa, I think we should level up a little Gryndane before doing quests

Q1 is just simply gaining experience doing whatever, it's that simple. Gryndane does not have the "Hero" promotion so he is not automatically gaining experience. Eyes open and you'll find some easy fights for him to level on.

Edit: You might also want to wait for others to put in suggestions before playing the round.

Yes, I will wait. But I have only two choices:
1. play 5 hours from now
2. play 29 hours from now :)

If no-one shows, I will wait till tommorow. But maybe there would be someone (or more of someones)

Well I am feeling very evil to day, so burn the racist lycantrophobes (maybe we'll get a Sgt. Angua out of it!)

As regards Q3, holding off until a few promos is good (unless the undead are piling up) but I'd take the movement point myself.

Quest 4 is a good place to start on Quest 1 so go there.

As regards normal play I'd continue the path lymond started.

I agree with reward choice. I am not sure if we should go now to the Q4, or rather stay close to our city for a few turns and kill a few animals before going for other fights

And I am happy you are feeling evil ! I want EVIL!!! (at least at that quest)

Vote we get the werewolf on our side... because who doesn't want more heroes?

Also I don't like that proposed city site, surely there must be more lucrative areas around

Yeah better city sites are by the lower dye, getting us rice as well, or 1E od Foxford, I believe those are two cottons there.

Yeah those are cottons. Foxford on its own is a pretty nice source of commerce but then again you guys are maybe burning it so its not really anything to consider.

Gah, I'm all up in this game already. Is the extra content ok or am I coming on too strong?

You are not coming too strong IMO :)
As for cities... I wrote already that I think 1W from Foxford would be ok. And I think that we will keep Foxford untouched for some time, so it will be helpful as a source of commerce. 1E from it also seems good
