Fantasy NES: Sekai

kkmo, would it be possible to "unlock" other troop types? For example: Say I decide that giant spiders are a good idea for weapons against my enemies. Could I enslave the queen spider and then start domesticating her offspring? Also, if you control any special creatures, will they have stats too? (Like dragons and things like that)

Whoa, giant spiders. That would be interesting, seeing the obvious morale decrease in your enemies after they see tens or hundreds of men get struck down, get squirted with stuff, and turn into a spiders dinner drink.

I am going to give a pre-emptive "yes" answer to both of those questions. Though, you will not be able to "train" giant spiders, so you will not be able to actually build them in your kingdom, but you will still have to pay to maintain them. You would have a limited amount, and more could be given to you in special circumstances. They would be considered a military unit, though, with certain stats (to be revealed later). And yes, special creatures you have will essentially be a cross between a unique military unit and a character, and Kodo will have stats (also to be revealed later).

I would focus on the dragon right now, though, and not interfere much in Shiv's Lair. You don't want to stretch yourself too thin.

Here is a new addition to our game, TRADE ROUTES (made possible with the Trading tech).

Spoiler Trade Routes :
  • Trade Route: Requires Trading technology. A trade route is free of charge, but one of your realm's hexes must be connected to a hex within the realm you are trading with via ROAD for the effects to take place. For every trade route you establish (and only one can be established between kingdoms, so Kingdom A and Kingdom B cannot have two trade routes with each other, for example), not only do the roads provide swift movement to that kingdom outside of your borders (but are subject to raids by bandits and other enemies), but for every trade route you establish you receive +1% growth rate per road investment amount. You must think about whether or not this is worth the cost of building a road to that realm, but keep in mind BOTH REALMS receive this bonus that are taking part in the trade route (and a third party can be involved as well), so you could even divvy up the costs between realms. The longer the road, the more risk there is to possible raiding, and thus you might be swamped by constant rebuilding of that road, which may not make it worth the effort. Trade Route Levels are determined in the same way Road Levels are determined. If you invest 500 gold into each hex connecting a trade route, then you will receive +5% growth rate. If the roads only have 100 invested in each hex, then +1% (all the hexes of the trade route must have the same amount invested in the roads for the effect to take place). Please note that only realms of the same classification can trade with each other (as in, only Order realms can trade with each other, and only Chaos realms can trade with each other). Humans do not want to have to take a long road straight into an Orcish kingdom.

You can find this under the Improvements & Economy section.

Very nice :)

kkmo, I think I'll take das' mission. I'll see whatever happens from that :)

Whoa Whoa Whao! Who said anything about Shiv? I was just asking a purely hypothetical question. Never would I try to enslave such a free creature....

You could see what happens when you breed a dragon and a giant spider. I think the results might be interesting. :D

Something like this:

:p

It's a giant spider, though, so it would be way bigger. ;)

I think I'll keep the two creatures from breeding if the decision is mine. Web slinging dragons or fire breathing spiders the size of a dog aren't going to be easy to control.

I am making changes to my national stats (if not too late).

Backround Info: In the lands long ago with the island of which we know of today was just recently inhabited by several waves group of humans. These people didn't even originate anywhere near the location of which they reside. They are said to have come from the distant lands from the inland southwest as political exiles.

The kingdom which they fled from was at the time was largely run by the elves who were rather despotic and cruel in their government. However a small group of these exiles managed to nab some of the Elven basic technology and animal domestication. This helped contribute to the basic advantages that were to happen latter. Although they managed to do this it was thought that they were to be cursed forever and were unable to use a great deal of magic for an entity.

These migrants began to go into several different routes to the final island destination. One of the most major ones was the one where the migrants went through the highlands and central areas of this realm. Not only did these people begin a calvary tradition that has (surprising) not only managed to survive, but is thriving even they are on an island.

This was the time when they really began to form a hatred for a race. They happened to go through a dwarf encampment where a grouchy dwarf attempted to attack one of the messengers of migration which then was reported and then the migrants attacked the encampment and slaughtered all of the dwarfs. When word of this event began to spread to the main dwarf capital then the migrants began to flee after looting all of the encampment.

These migrants where beginning to run out of supplies when they came across a goblin encampment. However these goblins were quite the opposite and in fact greatly welcomed them into the place where they lived. The people began to gain more food and material in exchange for other things... Despite this these migrants were needed as protection and the critical point came when a rival group of orcs were coming to attack and raid the place. When they saw the group of migrants along with the goblins they wanted to have peace.

Despite the extreme hatred between the orcs and goblins they began to realize after the urging of the humans they they should all flee before the dwarfs (who were coming near in massive numbers) came and slaughtered them all. So the fatefully decision was made to have all of the orcs, goblins, and the humans within the encampments involved to flee and get to the island which they would found their capital of Salamanica after and in honor of the name of the cities founder.

Ironically enough these people began to move into the lands to take refuge of the race which the humans fled from. They would be the elves. These people would become integrated with the elven society even thought they didn't really ever intermix genetically with the elves. Once they began to be dissatisfied they finally left regaining the knowledge the humans once had to get to the final place.

When they finally reached the island they had began to build it from the ground up and as various members of the orc, goblin and human races began to hear of this they all moved into the place in massive numbers long after the original migration had began.

As for the "species" that you are using, do not call it your own, because that is quite unfair. The Huorin as you call it can be more of a sub-species, a classification of a type of kingdom that contains both Order and Chaos races. However, if you choose to do this (and I'm thinking you probably shouldn't) you will have more consequences than good come out of it. First off, you cannot establish trade routes with anyone, because you have both Order and Chaos infused into your kingdom. Second, there will be segregation in your kingdom between these races, and higher chances for civil war and disunity. The story behind your kingdom, of those three races grouping together, goes against the entire backstory of Sekai, the fabric of the world we live in and its mechanisms. The only places in the world that have those hodge podges of races are outside of Sekai, and we mortals do not have the capacity to understand such secrets of harmony.

So, you might want to think about what race you want, one single race, instead of an amalgamation of three races, which very well could give you a headache more than anything else. My second issue:

Advantages: + 1 Infantry, + 3 Calvary, + 5 Naval, + 1 Archer, + 2 Building, +tech, + 1 Trade and Manufacturing, + 2 Animal Domestication
Disadvantages: - 4 Farming, -6 Initial Race/National relations with nations with more homogeneous nationalities, - 5 Magic

No freakin' way. You get a +1 advantage with no consequences, and a +2 advantage, -1 disadvantage at the most. Anything beyond that is not allowed. Your "-6 Initial Race/National relations" pretty much means nothing, anyway, beyond your relations with NPC (and relations in this game are not dictated by number rankings, so this stat you give is more or less meaningless).

If you are a kingdom on the island chain you highlighted earlier, I would expect that maybe your Ship attack would be +2, your cavalry movement -1 or something of that effect.

Kkmo, will I be getting a daily update on the status of the 15 goblins I sent to contact Kodo? Or should i just asume they'll get there okay in a few days?

I will post a nice update for you when you get there, because I will assume everything goes smoothly on the way there. I am excited for Kodo. He feels so lonely in his cave. :D

Just having read the story of what happened after I looked down the tree - it was a quite good story :) I don't want to reply with a story right now, I don't have the energy, but tomorrow I will write further about my journey.

I am sorry but when you said that we could have a mixture if races I thought you knew what I was refering to. I guess not.

As for the stats you can do what you want but once again I wasn't sure what was required and if there was a cap to the limits.

Its no problem at all. I have it written in the ruleset, but the ruleset is rather large so I can see how someone would miss it. No worries.

Well, you have some options, and I'll give you them, and you can tell me which you want - first of all, in terms of races:
- Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Half-Elves, Gnomes - these are races that can live together.
- Orcs, Goblins, Undead, Dark Elves - these are races that can live together.

Then here are your advantage options, choose one that would work best for you:

A. +2 Galleon Attack, -1 Cavalry movement
B. +2 Galleon Defense, -1 Cavalry movement
C. +1 Galleon Attack, +1 Galleon Defense, -1 Cavalry movement
D. +2 Galleon movement, -1 Cavalry movement
E. +1 Galleon movement, +1 Galleon attack, -1 Cavalry movement
F. +1 Galleon movement, +1 Galleon Defense, -1 Cavalry movement

Etc. But you can replace Cavalry with another type of military unit, or you can alternate any of this, so long as it adds up to only a +1 Advantage to some type of military unit.

Let me know if you have any more questions. Shall I assume you want to be located in the same spot you had indicated before?

Hey, I just realized a slight problem. Since I'm using a two-handed sword, there will be obvious difficulties wielding a shield. What will happen?

Hey, I just realized a slight problem. Since I'm using a two-handed sword, there will be obvious difficulties wielding a shield. What will happen?

The skill "Shield" can mean defending an attack, not having an actual physical shield. The game mechanics do not specify items that you own, unless they are special items given to you while you are questing. So basically, even though you don't have a shield (which is all purely fluff anyway), does not mean you cannot defend from attacks with your sword or your armor or whatever other means.

I hope this is clear to everyone, actually. It seems some players like to put a significance on these things - "I have a two-handed sword, what about my shield?" or "What about a horse?" The fact of the matter is, the game mechanics have already figured in your stats, and nothing you can do as a player can change these stats, except when you get experience points or spend your spending points on skills/spells. Make sure you all know EXP and SP are two different things, I have seen several characters already that have a good 30 spending points at this point because we are on the Third Turn, and I have not seen any skills or spells listed, you can afford 3 at this point, and you must complete a first tier to get to the second tier! I recommend everyone read the rules and spells/skills section.

So, the fact that you do not have a shield, or the fact that someone needs a horse, all of this is irrelevant. You have stats and the game works by those stats. Any fluff is your discretion, but they will not effect the actual gameplay - it is only for story purposes.

I hope this makes sense. And mythmonster, Afuria is still waiting for your reply to take the job of giant spiders - everyone's first quest is basically a freebie, so I guarantee you will succeed. Once you character players finish your first quests, I'll set up lines of options for you, with recommended stats for each job, and players can come to certain towns to take these tasks. You can take one that looks more difficult, and hope things work out and get a ton of EXP, but you are risking your life in the process.
