Fantasy NES: Sekai

But, ofcourse, we can always simply march over unclaimed territories, and even "claim" them from a political and military viewpoint, economic investment ("Spread Realm") being only important for genuine colonisation, integration and development of captured regions. Correct?

EDIT: Nevermind that last part, I found it.

EDIT: Nevermind that last part, I found it.

You can certainly march your troops pretty much anywhere and claim it, but I plan to have you require to fight some NPC troops or barbarians to do that. And even then, you have to do the 50% investment still to get people to move there and settle towns in that territory, so you can build roads and markets and banks there.

By the way, at the start of the game, I will have a special notice that "Spread Realm" only takes 1 week to be successful for the first game month, so basically speedy colonization for people for 4 weeks. And, you can colonize islands and spread your realm across the sea.

I want to be clear that while a week is an official turn, your movement rates are daily, so if you have a movement of 2, you can basically move 12 each week (only bureaucratic stuff happens on Sundays, no real action). And people will post and such every day I imagine about their movements, and if they land on something that day that is of importance, I will post it, and then the main updates will occur on the following Sunday.

Brana's Black Guard

Type: Guild
Species: Orcish
Advantage: +1 infantry defense, possibly +1 infantry attack in exchange for -1 Cavalry attack after mod approval
Location: Any orc or goblin kingdom

Background Information:
Brana's Black Guard originally hail from a cold, depressing land in the southern hemisphere. Brana's ancestor, Brakan, united the disparate Orcish tribes of the region through their own iron will. Unlike many such states, Brakan's descendants possessed his skill and managed to hold the confederacy together. Over the decades, Brakan's successors developed the land, founding border posts, carving roads of the wilderness, and nurturing the important centres of trade that would one day become towns.

It was hard for many orcs to adapt to a settled way of life, though some saw the benefits of Brakan's rule. Rebellions were common, but the rebels were traditional orcish rabble, warbands with little organization and no discipline held together by the charisma of a single leader. In order to keep these rebels at bay, a corp of elite orcish warriors was formed to be led by the King himself. These disciplined soldiers were hard to train, but the good food, warm beds, authority, and easy access to women becoming a part of the Royal Guard meant, ensured that the guard was fanatically loyal and well motivated.

In order to keep an influx of seasoned veterans, and to train younger sons in the ways of battle, small groups of Royal Guard under the command of young members of the royal family struck out as mercenaries. These mercenaries largely fend for themselves, but a steady flow of recruits comes from their homelands, and veteran mercenaries often retire to join the Imperial Guard.

The two most notable units are Ikron's Iron Guard, and Brana's Black Guard. The Iron Guard are the largest unit, sending the most members back every year to join the Royal Guard.

The Black Guard is known for it's lack of ties to the homelands. The Black Guard are named after the dark tint in their skin and the black lacquer coating on their armor. The Black Guard are renowned for their infantry, which largely takes the form of armoured pikemen and supported by lightly armoured archers, armoured, greatsword wielding orcs, and small numbers of mages and cavalry.

The Black Guard has become largely independent due to it's distance from it's homeland. However, it is also due to Brana's claim to the throne. Rather than risk a possible challenge from Brana, his older brother, now King, gave Brana control over the Black Guard and freedom from the levy of experienced warriors.

Hey Fulton, that advantage is fine. Approved. Do you want to be in Ninja Dude's Goblin Kingdom????? Maybe he would be okay with it?

Edited for testing purposes.

Thanks for the quick approval.

I'll be happy to be based out of Ninja Dude's kingdom.

Yes, come up with any background you want to.

Oh, and to be clear, Fulton, that is including the -1 to Cavalry Attack. Just making sure we are on the same page.

Glotrith: The Rise of Treachery

Glotrith started out as almost any other kingdom would, as a small city. Turtanbar it was known as. Goblins, Orcs, and maybe even the occasional Dark Elf passed through the city to trade for valuble minerals. But other than the mineral trade it had little going for it.

This, however, changed dramaticly with the rise of King Blazgig, otherwise known as Backstabbing Blaz. He planted his own people in other small goblin city states and then at the right moment, he'd trigger assassinations and revolts made possible by his spies. Soon, all the lands surrounding him were in chaos and dispair.

Within the chaos was calm and collected Blazgig, conquering his former trade partners and even past allies. But none of that mattered. He was king, and everything was right with the underground world. Or so it seemed for Blaz. After many years of ruling his newly forged kingdom, he was killed by his son, Blizgag. He ruled for about as many years as his father before being assassinated himself. Soon, the royal line of Blazgig was reduced to squabbling assassins, each wanting to become king as soon as possible. However, after a few uneventful rulers, another goblin seemed right to be called king. His name was Xogiz the Underhanded. His abilities as a ruler were nothing out of the ordinary. However, his ability to avoid assassination was legendary. With almost 100 attempts on his life foiled, Xogiz is now the most successful King of Glotrith since Blazgig.

And that is the history of Glotrith up until the present. It should be interesting having to battle my own people every once and awhile.

Works for me ^_^
It is what I asked for. I never really considered Orcs the cavalry type, so it makes sense that mine will be few in number and serve in a lesser role than in other armies.

I have added a "Terrain Skills" which apply to Rangers. Now you choose a type of Ranger, or any character for that matter, which can have advantages in terrains (but Rangers get the price deduction on Terrain Skills). Rangers receive "price" reduction on terrain-specific skills and movement-specific spells.

The way I see it, the reason all characters can do all spells and skills is because I want dimensional characters that dabble in various skills. But if they research into their own, the get the price reduction, which is important.

This is going to be one of the first chapters in our game (just a tidbit that you can either take part in or attempt to stay out of). Do not respond to this now, I am just giving you all a sneak peak. :)

Spoiler Chapter 1 :
Chapter 1. XAL'AMUL (Part I)

It is said that Arc'a, the powerful god that made the afterlife his personal playground, was sentenced to eternal prison somewhere in the depths of the world. Xal'Amul's sole goal for existing is to uncover his prison and set him free, as most undead creatures desire. This common goal has created a "kingdom" of sorts, with a citadel in the Desert of Xas, ruled with an iron fist by Great Xalas, a Human necromancer who is said to actually be one of the many grandsons of Arc'a. Xal'Amul is an old and relatively small, but extremely powerful kingdom in the northwestern desert regions of Sekai. The kingdom was said to have been established when Xalas discovered a mass grave from a war long ago and he decided to test his newly researched spells. What resulted was a kingdom that took centuries to create with the back-breaking work of zombie slaves. Xalas wanted a citadel fit for a king who would desire to form an empire, and the sands of this desert quickly turned freezing cold (think Gobi desert). It is even rumored that Xal'Amul is as old as the Second Age and that Arc'a actually held a battle there purposefully knowing one of his offspring's offspring would later conduct disgusting experiments there.

Scouts from all over Sekai have reported that the Great Xalas has amassed a sizable army and is looking to spread his scourge outward from the desert. They could be attacking you, or they might not. But the threat is clear: the undead from the Desert of Xas will begin to scour Sekai in the most unsuspected terrains.

Options:
1.) Do nothing (you do nothing, and your realm is wide open for attack).
2.) Attempt to form relations with Xal'Amul, which may result in a possible friendship or alliance. This will be easier if you are a Chaotic player, but still doable if you are Order (one of your envoys will be sent from your realm directly to the citadel of Great Xalas, either your envoy will return with news of friendship, and a promise that Xal'Amul will not attack your realm, or your envoy will return without a head).
3.) Prepare defenses (prepare for what could be an incoming attack on your realm, but basically stay out this problem as much as you can).
4.) Prepare defenses and possible counter-attack (prepare for the incoming attack, and organize an attack squad to pursue the retreating undead and possibly crush their military).
5.) Get them before they get us! (send troops directly to the Desert of Xas immediately, fight what you find on the way and amass at the Desert of Xas, where your army will wait for further orders).

Your orders (like how many troops are doing what, sepcifically) can be sent to me at any time. If I do not receive your orders, I will assume option 1.

I don't know what appropriate names are on this world, so I've put brackets showing their character concept and class.

The Coalition
(Leader/Warrior) was an irresponsible young ____ aristocrat, who knew he would never inherit and was trying to blow as much of his father's money away as possible in drink before he lost the chance.

(Would-be wanderer/Priest) had been around town, trying to get together a "Band of Brothers" for wandering around. But since he was paying nothing, this effort had rather come to nill. After a political disaster, (Politician/Mage) was desperate to flee, but was prideful enough he would only accept working with (Would-be wanderer/Priest) if he could lead.

Knowing that (Leader/Warrior) wanted a bit of excitement in his life and in the hope he would be a lame duck leader, (Politician/Mage) proposed him. (Leader/Warrior) was "persuaded to accept", and got (Powermonger/Rouge) to join in exchange for bribe money for a pardon.

The group took the grand-sounding name of The Coalition. The only thing they had in common was that they all desired military glory. So that is the way they went...

Any names are okay that you come up with for your characters and concepts.

Ninja Dude, you will have to choose a specific type of troop to have +1 movement. Like, all Infantry or all Cavalry.

Infantry please. While this isn't an official response, I could see badly disguised goblins trying to sneak into this undead kingdom.

I think I've just found out some interesting facts about my location:

1. If this undead army is coming from the desert in the nothwest like I think it is, there is a good chance I'm going to be the first line of defense for everyone.

2. Same thing as the undead except if Kandoran decides to travel into poor little Sekai. There are a little better chances that I won't be he only one fighting them though since the Dwarves can saok up some damage before I step in.

Hear that world? Your first line of defense against the evils of the world are a bunch of evil green midgets that may or may not betray you all in the end. I hope you can sleep at night now.
