Viking! Especially about the tireme south of Rome!

Az2 decided that the empire hasn't enough population. We will need more settlers to improve terain arrond existing cities. Those will preferably be built by our "12-sized cities since they can't grow yet. And of course AQUEDUCTS!!!!!

Canon just attacked "Fort Az" and it's exhausted defenders were victorious! Unbelievable!
When news arrived in Civfanatics.com crouds went in the streets to celebrate the event.
However military officials are sceptical about keeping "Fort Az" or abandoning it since fortifications are not ready yet

New cities and "forts" founded or occupied during Az2 reign:

"Fort Viking" is the place between Rome and Veii
"Fort Az" is the square south of Hlobane
" Fort Fanatic" is north of Cumae.

-Circ?eville is former Bokhara which we took to the Mongols
-Marshall GenghisK is situated west of "Fort Az".
-SweetHomeC.Fan. is south of "Fort Viking"

Two extreme strategies:

(1) The quick and dirty win: Fundamentalism ASAP and then flood everyone (first the Romans and Mongols) with lots and lots of crusaders and diplomats.

(2) Democracy/perfectionst strategy, focus on becoming #1 in science and infrastructure and head for a spaceship win (our continent should probably be cleared of any troublemakers like the Romans though).

This could also be combined by oscillating between Fundy/Demo/Commie (veteran spies). This is the fun way IMO if we don't necessarily want a very quick win via fundy (using tanks against primitive units is fun <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>).

From a military standpoint, the Romans are very easy to conquer, just fill Fort Viking (thanks for that name Az !) with crusaders/diplomats (5-10 of each), destroy Rome's city walls and take it, then bribe most of the remaining cities. The Mongol capital should also be easy to take but beware: The Mongols might attempt to take Bokhara back by bribing it.

BTW I didn't receive the game via email but that's OK, I saw from the log what has happened (a lot, things are clearly heating up so I'm not surprised you accidentally played 11 turns).

Yes I think you are right it makes it more interesting.

I got your email. The attachment came as a DAT file. I loaded it into a hex editor and saved it out as a SAV file but it crashes Civ2 when I try and load it. Can you try sending it to me again using the same method you used for the 1400AD save.

Since Az is leaving for a few days I'd be interested in looking at his DAT file but then you'd have to email it to me or attach it to a message here - I don't have it.

1754AD (0) We have 25 cities with 7.56 million people and 2,312 gold. Tax 80%, Lux 20% and Science 0%. Things are looking good so my only change is to rush build four Diplomats.

1756AD (1) Zulus and Greeks sign pact against us. We fortify a Crusader in Fort Fanatic. Diplomats from Ravenna and Pithom march towards Cumae. Zulus try to blackmail us for 1,000 gold which we reject so War continues. Our Cannon attacks Hlobane but is destroyed. Zulu Crusader approaches M/all GenghisK so we rush build Musketeers. We will rush build city walls next.

1758AD (2) Romans gain Navigation from Zulus. Zulus destroy Diplomat near Circ?eville. We incite revolt in Roman city of Pompeii for 896 gold. Gain 108 gold and Democracy. Switch Elvis P to building Statue of Liberty and use a caravan to help build it.

1760AD (3) Zulus bribe Musketeer in Fort AZ. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/frown.gif" border=0> Caravan completes Statue of Liberty in Elvis P. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0>

1762AD (4) Establish embassy with Mongols. Mongols have 5 cities with Capital city Karakorum. Zulus change to Democracy. We revolt to change to Fundamentalism. Under The Republic 80% tax gives 361 gold minus 82 gold support (361/82). We will do much better under Fundamentalism. Pithom defeats Barbarian Elephant attack. This is the first of waves of barbarians which come in from the empty land to the east of Pithom.

1764AD (5) Musketeer in M/all GenghisK destroys attacking Zulu Crusader and becomes veteran. Veteran Cannon in Circ?eville destroys attacking Zulu Crusader. Our government becomes Fundamentalist and 80% tax gives 543 gold less 59 gold support. We are 205 gold better of and also have 20% Science. Incite revolt of Roman city of Pisea for 364 gold, plunder 134 gold and gain Economics. Incite revolt of Neapolis for 336 gold and plunder 54 gold.

1766AD (6) Romans gain Mathematics from Zulus. Musketeer in Pompeii destroys Roman Cannon and becomes veteran. Build city of Adder between Pithom and Ravenna.

1768AD (7) Mongols sneak attack Circ?eville and destroy Cannon. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/mad.gif" border=0> We incite revolt in Roman city of Cumae for 1568 gold. Plunder 143 gold. Find Roman city of Hispalis east of Neapolis. We have now located all the Roman cities. Veteran Cannon in M/all GenghisK destroys Zulu Cannon.

1770AD (8) Mongols capturer Circ?eville. I will bribe it back next turn but decide to finish off Romans before dealing with the Mongols. Build city of New Orleans. Veteran Cannon in M/all GenghisK destroys another Zulu Cannon.

1772AD (9) Romans develop Conscription. We bribe back Circ?eville and gain University and Crusader. Veteran Cannon in M/all GenghisK destroys another Zulu Cannon. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/rocketq3.gif" border=0> This is getting to be a habit. Rush build Barracks in M/all GenghisK. Incite revolt in Hispalis for 592 gold. Plunder 140 gold and gain Conscription. Leo's upgrades Musketeers to Riflemen.

1774AD (10) Thucydides lists most powerful nations as 1st Civfanatics , 2nd Zulus, 3rd Mongols, 4th Romans with the Greeks not mentioned. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/avatar.gif" border=0> Build city of Nashville east of Elvis P. Build city of Brum east of Asyut. Crusader near Pithom is promoted to veteran for destroying barbarian Elephant. Incite revolt in Veii for 994 gold. Plunder 114 gold.

We now have 35 cities (+10), 9.23 million population (+1.67million), and 213 gold (-2,099). We have completed the Statue of Liberty. Magellan's Expedition is 188 out of 400 (188/400). The Romans are down to 2 cities and the Mongols only have 5. I haven't spotted the Greeks yet but they will only have 1 or 2 cities. The Zulus have 9 cities.

A Diplomat escorted by Riflemen is near Antium so bribing that is no problem. Fortified west of Rome are 3 Riflemen, 1 Crusader and 1 Diplomat. A Rifleman and Musketeer are fortified east of Rome.

There are 4 Caravels between Hispalis and M/all GenghisK getting ready to create a ship chain to enable an attack on the Zulus.

We are number one in Science and are about 1/2 way to Physics. This will open up Magnetism, Steam Engines and then Railroad.

The loss off Fort Az was a disappointment but the slaughter of Zulu forces on the walls of Marshall GenghisK partly made up for it. The sneak attack by the Mongols on Circ?eville could not be properly dealt with then but the time is now ready with the Romans nearly eliminated.

We can now either go for conquest or think about switching to Democracy and aiming for a Spaceship win..
