[Feature] Additional Wonders

Mole Antonelliana has a similar issue to Burj Khalifa, it gives bonuses for a terrain feature, but doesn't require it. I recommend it requiring multiple mountains in the city radius.

Machu Picchu too! Or at least make it 2-3 required tiles minimum.

What's the point of this?

  • Why does Oxford University require Academia and Protestantism if it was built in medieval times? Maybe it was to guarantee accuracy in who builds it in exchange of moving it to a later time. I would change the Academia requirement for Education, Protestantism as being an alternative requirement to Catholicism, and maybe a different landmass than the holy city.
That seems convoluted and restrictive. Why not just "Must be England" if you're going that far?

Hahaha, you're right. With the last one, I couldn't come up with a very creative thing to make it available to some but not all western Christian civs. Scratch that if it makes it too restrictive or boring.

The goal is to have more Protestant wonders. I never would have added a Catholic Oxford in the first place.

Maybe we should just accept the fact that Protestants have never accomplished anything great in all of history and move on. :p

I have an idea for a Protestant Project . How about the City on a Hill or call John Winthrop's letter by its actual name A Model of Christian Charity . This letter is significant for its establishing the puritanical aspects of Protestantism in its attempt to follow more strictly biblical scripture. The project can continually provide Protestant missionaries every 5-10-20 turns as well as a cultural bonus.Perhaps it could also provide a literacy or even science bonus (obviously that aspect would become obsolete in the industrial era). Remember that Colonial New England was the most literate area in the entire world in the 17th century.

For an actual wonder, I think the
Gedächtniskirche Speyer would suffice for the industrial era. Since the Cathedral was built in honor of early Protestants perhaps an appropriate bonus would be happiness for civs running tolerance or secularism.

TIL historical greatness is wasting resources on a bunch of useless churches

Isn't that pretty much every pre-modern Wonder? You got a bunch of temples, a bunch of tombs, a bunch of megaliths, and a bare handful of 'useful' buildings like a lighthouse, a harbor, an arena, that sort of thing. Going solely by how the game itself measures greatness, Protestants really don't stack up.

Must protestantism necessarily mean lutheran / baptist churches?

For example, there is also the mormons which could be included via the salt lake church which is pretty impressive imo.

I feel this is the kind of discussion that might be shunned by the moderators, but mormons are not considered protestants. This is a huge issue, too complex to get into here, but for the most part and trying to remain neutral, I think that mormons and protestants themselves don't see each other as belonging to the same group (and would be very emphatic about it).

That's just a factual statement.

I started working on the strategy texts of the new wonders. I encountered some things:

1. The Hanging Gardens effect all cities, the current strategy text mentions it only effects the city it is build in. What is the intended way?
2. The Chapultepec Castle also effect spies. Intended? (Normally spies have their own XP calculation)
3. The Burj Khalifa also effects flood plain tiles, making them really, really strong. (5F, 3C as a base. It can be further improved by resources/improvements/levee) Maybe it should not provide food to flood plains.
It also effects all cities. Intended? It could lead to super cities in the desert. (Can you imagine that all of Alexandria, Cairo, Bagdad, Mecca, some cities in northern Africa get a huge food and commerce boost)
4. As I mentioned before, I think that La Mezquita should be renamed to Alhambra. Both represent the Moorish Architecture and I agree that having 1 of them is enough. The model represents the Alhambra. And IIRC people are more familiar with the Alhambra then La Mezquita.

I think that some wonders could have more appropriate GPP than they currently have. Also many wonders, especially lategame, provide Great Engineer points. Some of my suggestions are to create a little more diversity of GPP among wonders. I only suggested the ones I think the new GP is at least equally appropriate.
1. The Cristo Redentor: Great Engineer -> Great Prophet
2. Eiffel Tower: Great Merchant -> Great Artist
3. Crystal Palace: Great Merchant -> Great Artist (A Great Engineer would also work. But many lategame wonders provide Great Engineer points already)
4. Hagia Sophia: Great Engineer -> Great Prophet
5. Krak des Chevalier: Great Engineer -> Great Statesman (The great Engineer is also fitting, but Great Engineer points are very common, whereas Great Statesman points are quite uncommon)
6. Sagrada Familia: Great Engineer -> Great Artist
7. Salt Cathedral: Great Engineer -> Great Merchant
8. Shalimar Gardens: Great Engineer -> Great Artist
9. Trafalgar Square: Great Merchant -> Great Statesman

I can make a PR with all things you want to change.

1. It's intended to affect all cities.
2. It's not intended that spies are affected (by the way, what do settled Great Generals affect?).
3. Yes, it's better to limit the effect to one city. I think the best way to exclude flood plains etc. is to make have the effect never raise the tile output over 2. The description should be adjusted to indicate this: "Desert tiles yield at least 2 food and 2 commerce".
4. Didn't I reply to this earlier? I want to leave it as is.

Let's see, of the GPP changes I think we should implement: 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9

Looking forward to the pull request.

Neuschwanstein Castle could be changed to Bayreuth Festspielhaus and require Protestantism to give them another wonder. Shouldn't Hermitage also require Orthodoxy?

2. Do not effect spies.
4. You did reply that the Alhambra art is much more appealing than then proper Mezquita art, but IIRC you didn’t say you wanted the change the name or not. (Or maybe I missed that last part)

What is it with all of you and Wagner
