having recon and all dwarves have access to a promotion that lets them cross mountains is fine, but having them start with it would make crossing mountains way too easy.

That helps.

Lizards crossing mountains would be fine with me, and would make them less of a safe haven for early dwarves.

I agree.

A mountain crossing promo would be fine with me, or make it at Guerilla II.

Dwarves will always be early explorers, but I don't think we should take it away from their racial promo, so I can live with that.

Why does everyone want to remove hawks so badly? I personally like them. The complaint seems to be that you have to manually scout with them each turn, but if that bothers you, you don't have to build them...

I find hawks too strong, not to mention they don't really make much sense....floating eyes are ok, because they could be thought of as having a magical connection with their summoner.

But just because I launch a bird off my arm and he flies around for a while, doesn't mean I suddenly know the lay of the land.

Perhaps making them a unique summon for FoL priests might be more appropriate i.e. the magical connection idea would have more merit, or making them into animals that give a nice sentry totem.

Both of those ideas feel better to me personally.

Speaking of dwarves and peaks, I'm playing a game right now as khazad, and there are 2 peaks right near my capital that I was able to build workshops on (it's end-game, most techs are researched), but I haven't been able to build anything on any other peaks in my domain. What's letting me build there?
