[FfH II Art Team Blog]

This issue is two months old so this might be flogging a dead horse, but I think that the new drown graphic (page 12), while looking good as an undead unit, is miscoloured for a drown. When a drown is created it is kept under water until it's all swollen and distorted. So the drown should look like a drowned (surprise) body, paler than normal, not redder, with a slight rotten hue. The seaweed around it explains some of the colour but they are not naval mummies.

The new graphic is far better than the original blue despite of the orangeness, because water is not naturally blue. It only reflects the blue sky in lakes and seas so having it show as blue elsewhere is a similar misunderstanding as having people be thrown around when handgun bullets hit them.

drowned bodies are pale blue. because of the missing oxygen, their blood is blue and not red. ;)
Kael decided to us the afterworld bleeder for the drown. I think there is a blue version of the bleeder already in the afterworld folder. so kael, if you read this, you could simply assign the kfm to the more blue version of the bleeder, or if you want, although reduce saturation of the dds ;)

cheers.

I still think that the new Stygian guard graphics need to be changed. What was wrong with the old version? It was actually one of my favorites, and the the new Stygian Guard graphics from afterworld is my least favorite.

Actually, completely deoxygenated blood is not blue, but purple (not violet, but the real color purple, like from the dye that made Tyre so rich. This means it is more like dark crimson or maroon), however the skin filters out much of the red appearance. I have also heard that the tissue of veins themselves (not the blood inside, but the conduits) ha a blue hue. The only thing I've heard of that actually turns human blood blue is large amounts of colloidal silver in the blood (silver is a powerful anti-biotic, and can be used to treat heavy metal poisoning), which I think is caused by forming a complex with oxygen, actually increasing the amount of oxygen the blood can carry (although it does also reduce the amount of oxygen that bonds with the hemoglobin). There is also a condition that turns blood green, involving hemoglobin bonding with sulfur compounds. I'm pretty sure that without oxygen the skin's natural yellow-gray color becomes more noticeable.

I think that yellow probably is a better color for a drowned body (even if blue seems to fit the theme better), but definately not that shade of yellow. Overall it should be a more greyish, less bright. The main color should still be a shade of yellow, but the orange parts should be more purple from bruising.

The think that bothers be most about the new drown isn't the color, but the shape. Specifically the feet; how does drowning change a man's feet into another set of hands? Also, if you want to keep its current long limbs and bent over posture I really think the graphics should be made smaller; I don't see how drowning would double a man's hight either.

personally I really like the new drown/stygian guard art. I don't see the problem at all =)

Although it's true the new stygian guard art could make awesome flesh golems...

Yeah, the current stigian guard graphics would be much great as flesh golems. Switch their graphics to flesh golems (possibly recolored/textured first) and bring back the old Stygian Guards (or make an all new version if you prefer)

The current drown graphics would be prefect for a Ghoul unit. They do not fit the drown unit at all :/ I would gladly see the old 'bluish' warrior back, maybe add some seaweed to it, change the weapon for a harpoon or something. Haven't see the new stygian guard yet so no comment.

Even if they are pale blue they aren't that blue. I'll someday test this and declare the results as the once-and-for-all truth about the colour of the drown.

No, silly, with a piece of steak of course, i'm not that crazy

You had me worried there a second.

well... perhaps someone else will do it, but I will not go and change it right now. If i´d change it, i would change it to something new and fitting. but therefore i need time.
right now I am busy with svartalfars and balseraph and malakim :p
Be patient.
or if you really can´t stand it, please mod it yourself :)

EDIT: to proof this, here comes hand painted and hand modelled ;) :

hooray :D

1 month, im not patient, how will i survive!

well you probably will look forward to having some more fleshed out units instead of only one ;) thats definitely worth the wait, isnt it :)

Now that's a proper drown.
The feet are disformed because of the unholy magics used to animate the bodies after death.

When a drown is created, two things might happen: either they swell or "wet-dry" because of osmosis. Salty water causes "drying" as water leaks from the cells making it look a bit skeletal. And as the OO is an ocean-based religion it's realistic.

I like it.

May we return to praising seZereth for his wonderful new unit?

now, are they following the Werewolf animation base, i.e. going fisticuffs with their opponents?
