Then learn to use blender :) it's not that hard

freeing youself from proprietary, commercial software is only a good thing.
Seeing as it's free, more people have blender. which means more people are developing tools for it. etc, etc.

too right, but thats another program to fill my computer up with :p and do you know if its possible to get 3DSMax modles into blender?

It's possible to get anywhere models from anything into blender. 3DS max is undoubtedly capable of saving in any one of the several commonly used mesh formats that blender can import

.3ds
.ac
.dxf
.dae
.off
.x
.iwo
.mot
.md2
.ms3d
.bvh
.nif
.flt
.slp
.raw
.ply
.obj

Just reading off blender's import list here

plus, blender uses very little drivespace, if that's what you're worried about.

I'm not too well versed in doing human skin. Mostly, I just take samples from existing units and adapt as necessary. From what I can tell looking at his files, seZereth seems fond of reusing firaxis body textures too. The units I've made new faces on, are usually photosourced. For metals, start with a base greyish color, some bevelling, dirt brushes, dodge/burn and occasionally a lens flare. with cloth, I usually draw folds and creases by hand with the burn tool.

If you make any progress, do come back and tell. I'm still learning too !

which files do you mean?
must be some of the very old ones like amurite or doviello ones (those which use firaxis bodies as well)
because anything which came later is hand painted and made with blender.

As I recall, there was no "we". You were asking seZereth to do it.

Plenty of people joined in on that idea once we decided it could be a wench :)

The whole discussion was back on page 93. I remember we were talking about making either a voodoo themed or gypsy themed Adept. It eventually became a discussion about Druids, and a specific Lanun one.

Oh no no, the wench was the adept. The druid/ archmage would be a barmaiden.

The lanun already have a truly wonderful assassin model. I developed a deep respect for it while making a modification of it recently. I'd really rather not see it replaced. It's truly masterful art.

However, I have to say also, it's skeleton is a complete mess. Did you make it ,seZereth? It seems to have a mixture of BIP and bip01 bones, and for some reason it has several finger bones, despite not having any fingers on the mesh. That skeleton was one-way. It imported into blender, but it point blank refused to ever export again. I had to throw it away entirely, and re-rig the model to the default scout skeleton just to make it work.

I agree that the Lanun assasin model is great.

I do however envision the sea-storm barmaiden. She has a grass skirt, a bra made of sail cloth, and a small octopus or tentacle wrapped around her ankle.

I think she should be able to cast spring, tsunami, and vitalize.

Lanun assassin is not from me, its from Pirates!, reboned by AlazkanAssassin and texture edited by Roland ;)

On a different note:

could someone please recolour the clothes of Settlers and Workers to teamcolour? I think it could be easy and worthwhile, what do you guys think?

For settlers, that sounds like a good idea, but not workers. Because the current worker model has too much of a middle eastern theme. It really needs a new one.

I don't think anyone would have to make one, actually, there are a ton of ready made alternate workers in the download database we could use.

For example: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=12403

There's a short haired worker in there without a silyl headdress, which would be much more suitable for bannor/elohim/hippus. Well, almost any human civ that isn't malakim, really. The current default worker model has a middle eastern feel, and doesn't mix well with most factions.

Also, how many of the lanun units did you make seZ ? What about the swordsman, archer and immortal. Are those game rips too? I've always thought those three in particular were especially high quality.

I didnt make any of the lanun.
They are all from Pirates! converted by Alazkan i think.
(made by people who actually get paid for doing so,... :P)

How is the Pirates game by the way? Ive never played it

The Fangorn forest graphic doesn't seem to be working for me (I'm not a fan of the current Ancient Forests, I can hardly tell the difference from regular forest). THe files are in: C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Fall from Heaven 2\Assets\Art\terrain\features\ancient
as per the path in the RAR

Is it not compatable with the current version, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.
