FFH NES III: The Expanse

Yeah, let the games begin!!!!! :D

bty tayschrenn is a beast. (in the books) ;)

You Read the books !

I think the Malazan Book of the Fallen is the best series I've ever read. Well, some things in my organisation "Bridgehead" won't come as a suprise to you then. For example I, as the leader, am Artanthos

Lets say Tays fits my own personality best.

I'm reading those books right now! Currently at Bonehunters, so maybe I haven't seen all of Tayschrenn... so far it hasn't exactly been positive

I would enter, but, I barely have internet...

...so, when do Orders have to be in? Once a week?

And, I have no good ideas xD

Notice to lurkers: stop lurking and join in on the fun!

:mischief:

Yeah I think I'm guilty on that point. I'm modding but haven't even posted yet ...

Oh. That.

(Flashback)
Ken: Don't worry, my friend, soon we shall have our own secret units! MWAHAHAHAHA
Me: Hmm... Hey Immac! I want my spies to find out as much info about Ken's secret ritual!
Immac: Sure. So, what do you want your assassins to do when they find the ritual?
Me: Headshot (begins writing LONG orders about assassinating countless priests.)

That's not a lie :p

You forgot the second attack. Definitely my favorite part. :D It sure was a fun double/triple cross we had going there.

All right, to make sure I do this properly...

You want joining players to:

1) pick an org type
2) pick org specialties, according to the modifier of the org type's key ability
3) determine starting resources, with 25 General Points to play with
4) pick a home base
5) adjust abilities using 28 ability points
6) adjust subabilities as applicable
7) write a fancy general bit about your org, naming it, it's leader, and it's general goal

Am I right? Did I miss anything? What has to be done right now?

Yes those are things to be done. But so far all I've asked for is a few
Paragraphs of history and to choose an org type. Most people have been all too eager so far too calculate their stats already. I was planning on putting the map up tonight but rl got in the way so it'll have to be tomorrow. Then I plan on asking for stats and allotting a couple of days for
That. And when I get those from everyone I'll post the innovation tree and ask for people
To spend starting resources and spend them. This way nobody should feel rushed to come up with all this info.

Did you read Night of Knives and Return of the Crimson Guard as well ? That gives a few good clues and by the end of Bonehunters you will know a bit more too. I've read up to Dust of Dreams and he is still and Enigma

I haven't read those yet, I'm pretty much going in order. And I'm mid-way through Bonehunters, just after the underground scene.

Back on topic, I just want to say that I like the "assemble bit by bit" idea of the construction. It feels a bit less stressful

i finished the series, but i haven't read any of those yet, you should talk about it in the Malazan Book of the Fallen thread i started. Here

:hungrily stare at space where map will appear:
edit:
Science: Every culture tries to explain the world around it. This urge is the root of science and philosophy, which makes it an integral part of culture. The more developed the culture the more it tries to understand the world it is in making innovations and new discoveries come more often. This sub-ability turns your Culture Score modifier into a Research modifier. If it is positive the total amount of research points you generate will be multiplied by this number. If negative total RP will be divided by it. If it is zero then nothing happens.
Let me get this straight: if I have a Culture score of 12 then my research total would be Yx1, where Y=my total research, if its 10 then my total is Y, if its 8 then my total is Y/1; so all scores from 8 to 13 have the same impact on research? And a score of 14 doubles your research?

Yep, you need a really good score or a really bad score for your research rate to get this boost. Starting Map's up. I'll be putting up another copy with labels so the squares are easy to differentiate. If you haven't sent me your stats (not starting resources) get on that.

EDIT: Viable Starting Locations are from column A through I. I labeled every other square, so that way it wouldn't be too crowded picking out which square is which.

Each PO gets a number of Specialties equal to the modifier of its Key Ability Score divided by its Organization Scale.

Example: An organization called the The Hands of Laroth upon organization creation has chosen its type to be a Magic Tradition. As such, a Magic Tradition can specialize in the Alchemy, Ceremony, and Thaumaturgy trees. Let’s say this org’s Key Ability Score is 16, yielding a +3 modifier. That means The Hands of Laroth could choose to specialize in all of its Specialties. However, this organization wants to depart from the stereotypical mage guild and wants to be able to manipulate people and other organizations from behind the scenes so it chooses to give up two Specialty slots for a Cross-Specialty in Villainy. This leaves to Specialty slots left. The Hands of Laroth choose Ceremony and Thaumaturgy. All research points the organization spends in these Innovation Trees counts as double.

wait... this would mean that a +3 modifier would grant 4slots, right? because they are using 2 for villiany and then they still have 2 left...

..or am i missing something?

thx

To grow an Organization’s Scale a PO must spend any combination of a number of Culture, Research Points, and Gold Pieces equal to the listed cost. The listed cost however becomes different for each PO, as organizations get to lower the listed cost by an amount equal to its Command Sub-Ability Score multiplied by 10.

Ex. The Hands of Laroth are a Scale 2 PO with a Leadership Score of 22. Their Command Score is 44; this number mulitplied by 10 is 440. The Hands of Laroth feel they are ready to increase their Scale and spend 140 Culture, 200 Gold Pieces, and 100 Research Points in their orders. In the next Update they become a Scale 3 PO gaining all the benefits and drawbacks that go with it.

Scale..............Cost……..........Example Spheres of Influence
..1..................1,000.............Local group (gang, cult, trading post, tribe, neighborhood)
..2..................5,000.............City Faction (historic noble house, thieves guild, mage guild)
..3..................10,000...........Citywide (temple, city guard, elder council, smuggler’s port)
..4..................50,000...........Multiple Cities (corporation, wizard/knightly/religious order)
..5..................100,000.........National (governments, black market, Guild of Hammers)
..6...................500,000........Multi-national (Overcouncil, religion, crime syndicate)
..7...................1,000,000.... .The Expanse (none to date)
In the example it sounds like they need to spend 5,000 or 10,000 points minus 440 from command score to increase in size. They're spending 340 points, unless the various points are weighted differently, like tech is worth more then gold. Could you explain how they're weighted?
And is the cost to increase in size the number next to the size you are currently or the number next to the size you want to become? Like to go from 1 to 2 do you need to spend 1000 or 5000 points?

and when's the second moderator coming up?

@vruchten, the exaple originally had them with an 18 score, but for some reason which i can't remember i reduced it to 16. so i guess i didn't make the example airtight. i'll fix that now. now i haven't asked for starting locations yet. if you want to provide it feel free. but when i ask is when i'll be putting up some descriptions of what you need to know about the civs on the map.

@kyzarc: it costs 1000 to get to scale 2, and so on. about the example, that's another case where i changed the original around a bit but left a few mistakes. i'll be fixing that now. MoD will be posting his map when we post the player lists and who will be modding who.

EDIT: those mistakes are fixed. everything should make sense. if it doesn't let me know.

thanx, btw i think your system for inventing a PO is really neat, i love it :goodjob:

I cannot wait for the innovation tree :p
