FfH2 0.21 Cosmetic Issues

Can we change the name of Pirates to Privateers? It makes so much more sense.

Also, longshoremen are dock workers. I don't know how having dock workers on board will speed up a ship. Skeleton crew makes sense (less crew, so more room for cargo, but less combat strength). Buccaneers makes some sense (I would prefer Marines myself, and I also think less cargo space makes more sense than less movement).

There really isn't much you can do with the crew to make a ship sail faster, other than have a more experienced one. I wouldn't mind removing the longshoremen crew option all together. More movement should come from more experience. Getting experience opens up the Navigation promos. This makes the most sense to me.

What I would do as compensation is remove the Flanking pre-requisite from Navigation, as that doesn't make a whole lot of sense either. You could possibly add a Navigation III as well, but I think that may be too much. It would all shake out like this:

Through crew options, you can increase strength or cargo capacity at the cost of one another.

Through promotions, you can increase cargo once (Expanded Hull), movement twice (Navigation) and strength multiple times (Combat). You also have the Flanking promotions available.

You could even change Expanded Hull to give +2 cargo and -1 movement, as bloated hulls don't tend to run well.

Alternatively, you can call the high movement crew option something like Ol' Sea Dogs. Older, more experienced crew, but their age weakens them for combat. The paper-rock-scissors effect would be:

Ol' Sea Dogs: +movement/-strength (logic above)
Marines: +strength/-cargo (more soldiers, less room for cargo)
Skeleton Crew: +cargo/-movement (less crew makes more room for cargo, but can't run the ship as efficiently and/or extra cargo makes the ship ride lower and slower)

Thoughts?

In the recent update (0.21e), there were a number of French and German strings that were changed to English for no reason I could discern; perhaps they were reverted accidentally?

  • TXT_KEY_BUILDING_ELF_CAGE_PEDIA (French, german text reverted for no apparent reason)
  • TXT_KEY_BUILDING_GUARD_STATION_PEDIA (French, german text reverted for no apparent reason)
  • TXT_KEY_BUILDING_HOPE_PEDIA (French, german text reverted for no apparent reason)

Anytime I touch the english definition I delete the french and german (well I try to rememeber to).

I realize that; as far as I noted, the English changes for this list were trivial (removal of a tab, or a minor spelling change).

:agree: Neither do minotaurs. Or manticores.

Graphical glitch: Occasionally the unit info popup (from mousing over one of the mini unit icons) gets stuck on the screen even after deselecting the unit. The large popup in the lower left corner then blocks viewing of other boxes that show up there (such as combat odds).

Cause: I think this happens when I hit enter or shift-enter to advance the turn while still mousing over a unit. (but afaik it does not occur every time).

Resolution: Selecting another tile and mousing over another unit and then moving the cursor off the unit icon usually resets and removes the unit info popup. But sometimes I have had to save and reload to remove the "stuck" popup.

Yeah, that one bugs me too. Its from the PLE modpack and Ive tried a few times to get rid of it without success. Its in the changelog as a bug, I just havent been able to fix it yet.

They do not start with the Demon promotion. Of course, this may not be a defect.

Good point, I'll make them demons.

@Gamestation: Manticores and Minotaurs arent supposed to be demons.

All right then, so succubi are demons and minotaurs and manticores are not. Always thought they looked mean enough to be called demons but of course I could be wrong. (not being sarcastic)

Hey guys, you are doing a really great job! :goodjob:
I'm not sure if you are already working on this thing, but is it possible to give Sphener a different look. Because right now he looks like all the other angels, and I think he is a bit more special then a regular angel. Maybe make him a bit bigger, like Basium or Hyborem. Or change some color patterns or so.
Btw, the model of Hyborem reminds me of totally of the Bloodthirster from Dawn of War :)
Whatever, keep up the good work!

Yeah, Sphener is on the list to get done and seZereth is hot to do it (so it will be awesome). And I think they copied our unit when they made the bloodthirster in that game.

Just kidding in the above of course, we copied the bloodthirster from them.

I thought this might be the inspiration for Hyborem. Brom?
