FfH2 Bug Thread

Have you ever started a new job? What's more, have you ever started one in the computer gaming industry, immediately in charge of a major project that is already released and need a lot of work? Check out some of Kael's posts on the Elemental: War of Magic forums in relation to the patches on that game, and you'll see why he doesn't have much time or energy to spend on Fall from Heaven!

What I'm really curious about is what the new job means for the Fall from Heaven themed stand alone title so teasingly announced a few months back....

I doubt he has so little time that he can't copy the fixed Civ4UnitInfos.xml to whatever directory he keeps the patch files, run the script to create the installer, and upload it.

Therefore something else is behind the non-release of patch p.

Not every problem is due to a conspiracy.

It's very likely that Kael is extremely busy. Let's face it, he's tasked with "fixing" a game that had a high-visibility release, third party involvement (book deal) and a producer that had their ego on the their shoulders at first, but has since "seen the light" where it concerns the heap of poo they released upon the world.

So, Kael's job is to "fix all that." I'm sure it isn't easy and he has a heck of a lot of work to do just figuring out what, exactly, needs to be fixed and how they're going to do it. Planning is 3/4 of any battle and he's going to have to do a lot of that.

Sure, another fix-it patch would be awesome! I'd love to see it. But, considering Kael's luck at landing what could be a dream-job for him, I'm not going to begrudge him that one bit. If Kael feels it's necessary, he'll turn the reigns over to someone else for distributing any final FFH2 patches. If not, we wait.

I never said anything about a conspiracy; you're looking for Tielby. And how much time could it possibly take to upload a singe file to a forum? I could do it in two minutes, and that includes the time spent waiting for the installer to compile and upload. And I'm not asking for any new fixes, just the release of one that has been already done. The only explanation I can think of is that Kael wants to include some other fix in patch p as well and simply hasn't had time to do that, thereby holding the pyre zombie fix indefinitely.

Or maybe he knows that the community has already uploaded a hotfix, and that it is unprecedented in the long, storied history of Fall from Heaven to release a patch to fix a single bug.

No offense intended but you seem awfully worked up over a mod that everyone concedes is far from a finished product. Further, no one expects it to be completed. I'm sure you have been around long enough to know that. Move on to the modmods, a lot of cool things are being done with the great work Kael & co. have already created. :)

Aside from the bugs, FFH seems pretty finished to me. I also have no intention of moving on to modmods. I know not everything will be fixed, but the pyre zombie bug is so easy to fix for such a severe bug that it surprises me that nothing has been done. Also, doesn't it look more than a little unprofessional to you for p to be "unreleased" forever? If Kael has no intention of releasing patch p, the p should be removed from the first post, or at least have a "no intention to release" added after "unreleased".

I'm being credited with a conspiracy theory now? COOL!!!

Seriously though, if you want to continue this, let's take it to a new thread please. It's my fault, I admit. But I come to this thread to find or provide bug fixes.

:please:

Ah, gotcha. Sorry about that. :)

The man is probably busy, that's the only thing I can think of.

I've been waiting for several of the community offered fixes to get reflected in a new patch. But, would it be better for me to go hunt them down? I dunno. Where would I start?

That would be a nice thread - Community Bugfix Links. A thread where community fixes are cataloged by version, so we can all keep track of them in between patches... which will probably be very, very long periods.

I'd love to have some of the fixes that have been created by knowledgeable community members and that are stable. But, they're scattered all over the place..

At the risk of being one of those annoying self-promoters, but I just wanted to point out that my mod (link in sig), incorporates all the bugfixes that aren't yet an official part of FFH while also giving the AI numerous updates and increasing the overall stability of FFH without changing any core components (the biggest gameplay changes are merely some adjusted stats for ship units).

Finally played through as Sheiam, and got the AC to 100 but I think I got a double Armageddon. Instead of losing 1/2 of my city pop. it went down to 1/4. That and nearly all my living units were dead.

I had made blood of phoenix and lots of my units had the prophecy mark, during the turn I could hear the counter changing. When the first Armageddon hit the AC went down due to so many units with the prophecy mark getting killed, but a second later it made the sound of it going back up (to 100 again) due to all of them being reborn. I could tell some of them died twice as some got reborn in the capital, then killed there again with their equipment left over.

Is that what Armageddon is suppose to do or did I get doubly hit?

Also a question: can you not get a religious victory from certain religions or being evil? This game I had 93% of population as Ashen Veil at the end, I'm wondering if I was suppose to get a religious win and didn't, or am not able to under certain conditions. Couldn't find answer when I looked in guide or pedia.

Sounds like a bug. I don't believe that Armageddon is supposed to be able to trigger twice, but perhaps the code to prevent that does not function properly if the AC hits 100 twice in the same turn.

Religious Victory should be possible with any Religion or alignment. Make sure you are looking at the Religion screen, and not the Victory Conditions screen, when checking to see where your progress toward a Religious Victory. The Victory Conditions screen does not display the percentage correctly, and so can be misleading.

Also, be sure to check that you have Religious Victory enabled as a game option.

A month after last request (Deanej?), any chance to see a day patch p (and probably final) released ?
By the way, Tholal's mod/patch works very well, it goes beyond naval matters (and it solves the ctrl+# issue in FFH) and I currently use it as final patch...

Think of Patch O as the last patch ever, with an ETA of "never" for Patch P. That way, if Patch P ever does come (and we know it won't ;)) it will seem early.

Good point Emptiness.
Better to think like this: no frustration, and if it comes, it is happiness!
For answering deanej, I think Derek keeps this patch o for the long winter nights, when Elemental is stabilized. (I talk about next winter...)
