Violence + TV = Teh Suck.
Federal regulators, concerned about the effect of television violence on children, will recommend that Congress enact legislation to give the government unprecedented powers to curb violence in entertainment programming, according to government and TV industry sources.

The Federal Communications Commission has concluded that regulating TV violence is in the public interest, particularly during times when children are likely to be viewers -- typically between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., FCC sources say.

Wait why aren't parents making sure the kiddies aren't watching inappropriate TV?

sex is already banned. so if you take away violence what the hell is the point of watching tv? are you going to have a half hour long sitcom that discusses the weather? The simple solution is to just put your kid in a sandbox and let him/her play there instead of getting them addicted to the boobtube anway

While I'm generally opposed to this sort of thing, it's not all bad.
According to FCC sources, the report's recommendations include the creation of an "a la carte" system that would allow consumers to buy only the cable channels they want -- a favorite plan of Martin's that is widely opposed by cable companies.
It's ridiculous that we don't have this already.

Maybe Violence + TV + Little kids = Teh Suck...

Yes but why is it the rest of us with out sucky little kids are penalized when its the job of the parents to raise their kids right not the job of the government.

No bull I'd love a la carte channels. But that would save me to much money and the cable mega corps wouldn't be able to rape me every month.

Congratulations for getting more cencorship in the land of the free. I'm sure there'll be no crime after television violence ends :mischief:

I think they should censor violence if they censor sex... but I actually think they should be lax about censoring either.

There is a reason they have the "Treehouse" channel and "The Family Channel; just make sure your kids watch those if you are so worried. Or even better, send your kids outside to play.

Oh, I wouldn't fret too much. Even if they get the cable companies, (and I'm not quite sure how they would do that) I'm sure you'll be able to Netflix your daily quota of gore. ;)

Seriously, though, the government has a vested interest in children because they are the future of the country. Personally, I don't think that interest extends to regulating cable, but I can certainly see how some lawmakers would differ.

I'm just glad the Regulation gave Congress the right to vote on it..

I don't like this one bit, I hardly watched tv before, now I don't think I want to at all anymore.

Giving up TV is good. It's like giving up smoking. Couple of weeks of listless irritability and then you realise how much better it is. Unlike smoking it is quite safe to watch TV when you are in the pub without causing a relapse.

Im against the censorship. People should be keeping their kids away from excessive or inapropriate TV anyhow. If the gov has a role it should be limited to requiring some system that makes it easier for parents to control what their kids watch. Say, making all the networks support intergrating an age-level into the digital signal. Then if parents wanted to they could limit what age-level their kids could decode when they were absent.

 CFC OT has become a Simpsons episode! You know, the one where Marge pressures the TV station into taking the violence out of the Itchy and Scratchy show. And then, horror of horrors, the kids turn the TV off, and go outside and play! ROTFLMAO.

Of course I know less is better. But when I do watch it I want the shows I like to watch, the way they were meant to be. Making sure kids don't get to that is a parents responsibility, and since none live in my place it's not mine at all. Maybe they should be getting their kids away from it altogether that does sound like a good idea to me.(America could shed some pounds that way:mischief: )

TV todays is crap anyway. where I live, its all little kids, soap operas, news, reality shows, and violence. I'd rather go online

TV is obselete with video games.

Only thing you need a TV for is consoles and a movie player.

Dammit if I want too watch violence in 9 AM I will.
