Firaxis: Patch coming next week

SOB! Comparing thread title with posts so far, it would be better if this thread sank down and down... everytime I receive an e-mail telling me "Firaxis: patch coming next week" I risk a heart attack for nothing...

Any news?

That would be this week, since "next week" was posted last week...

P.S. I put the chances of seeing a patch by Friday as 1 in 6.

Is that because they don't work on Sundays or something? :p The initial email said this week. Let's hope the patch arrives as indicated.

Hope for the best, but expect the worse?

I put the chances of a patch on Friday at 1 in 4; on next Monday at 3 in 7.

I put the chances of us having any definitive word about the patch before the actual day it is released at 1 in 20.

I put the chances of me knowing what I'm talking about at 1 in 10,000.

Arrgh...waiting is so hard...and grasping at straws is so unsatisfying...

Yeah, KevinTMC, I think you have the right idea. I think often developers, even though they've already fixed a huge batch of issues, are never quite ready to release even an interim patch since they've ALMOST NAILED yet another big issue. This first patch CAN'T EVEN be any sort of SUPER PATCH and will most likely only address some of the more obvious and critical issues with more subtle balance and AI tweaks likley in later patches. I'm only basing this on my own QA and gaming experience which may NOT be how Firaxis rolls. Therefore I'm betting a Thursday or Friday release if this week at all (most likely Friday but Thuirsday afternoon would be nice, give the major sites a day to get it up before the weekend).

Wow, that is a pretty quick patch. I wonder if this game was tested enough before being released. Did they do a private beta test at all?

I guess it's another example of marketing pushing the developers too hard to release the product. I can relate, being a software developer myself though not in the gaming industry...
these fast patches are usualy in developement pre release, but cannot make it inot the game before it went gold. So I am not suprised. I am happy though :D

The new patch is here its here. Oh wait. Nevermind. Kinda like the finished game has been released the finished game has been released. Oh wait. Nevermind, it ain't finished.

English mother <Deleted>, do you speak it? Seriously, only 8-year olds whine so incoherently. EVERY game has a patch out in the first month, developers can't release a perfect game, it's called business and it involves concepts you can't comprehend such as 'deadlines' and 'publishers'.

But didn't you realize that when you post a complaint about a game crashing on a message board everyone who replies knows EXACTLY what you've done wrong and exactly how to fix the problem? (Therefore they can't comprehend how the game developer could let this glaringly easy to fix bug get by them). ;) I'm actually quite pleased that these vicious bugs are happening on random systems. That means that it's not an easy to fix bug and that there is no simple solution like many people are thinking. It also makes me think that there's something deep down in the code that will need to be worked on, and when it is found a good number of these nasty bugs will be exterminated at the same time. :D

Jessep: You want a patch?
Kaffee (Tom Cruise): I think I'm entitled to one.
Jessep: You want a patch?
Kaffee: I want the patch!
Jessep: You can't handle the patch! Son, we live in a world that has code. And that code has to be entered by programmers. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for your lost playing time and you curse Firaxis. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that your lost playing time, while tragic, probably saved a beta tester some time. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, wastes money...You don't want the patch. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you wanted to waste your money. You needed to waste your money.
We use words like ctd, code, bsod...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent making something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very game I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a keyboard and write your own dam patch. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

just pulled out of thin air i assume ;)

Hot air actually...

I base this estimate on balancing the fact that numerous people are having problems, and it can't be helping sales, so they want to get it out, versus the fact that if you release a half-assed patch, you can break as much or more than you fix. I'd have put the chance at 1 in 20, except that if this game was released before Firaxis was ready, and I believe it was, they may have been working on a better release candidate all along, and THAT may be what we get this week...

Inspiring.
I've become quite fond of you guys over the last few days. Even though you might be idiots in real life, I still feel like we're in this together. We'll get through. Group hug !
Actually, forget that. Carry on argueing. Someone make a silly statement and get flamed by articulate and passionately verbose responses.

ps. Having pathetic out-of-work dreams about seeing a post on Friday that reads: 'It's here ! It's out : dload from here'. I may be sad, but I'm proud. Fellow nerds, unite !
