First Deity Game

So, why Inca? I'd have chosen a more powerful civ like Rome.

I went to the tips forum and it was suggested, probably for the Quechua. the Terrace isn't bad either, w/ the culture bonus.

And Rome is useless without metals.

Seems like everyone other then you is in the modern age already :D

Most certainly. I really hopeI can remain neutral in that war..

I think they advised Inca with a Quecharush in mind...
But hey, for a first Diety game you manage to survive real good... I have played a few diety games and most of them ended around 1000 AD or something...

Like I said above, I had the right neighbor. If it was Montezuma or even Alexandeer I'd be dead.

true enough

That won't help when you only just completed researching Construction in 1510 AD...

In my experience, on deity, you are not likely to want to start wars by the time you research IW simply because the AI will have so many units, even Praets are going to get runned over. You might get away with being dragged into a war once your target is engaged with someone else. You might pirate a city or two then. But starting a war on deity can be... catastrophic.

The only caveat to that is if you pop IW from huts early (unlikely, given that the AI start with two scouts, IIRC). THEN, you can consider a lightning DoW with a stack of swords, before the AI start cranking out axes en massed. Even then, it is likely to be costly as the AI start with 6 archers and are likely to have pumped out more in the meantime (they START with Archery and two settlers/cities).

Deity early game is a lot of begging, bowing and scraping to prevent the AI from turning you into toast.

I have the next update ready and, unfortunately, it is the end. I didn't die, but I won't say more until you guys say whether or not you want me to wait a day.

Sorry, I couldn't wait.
I MUST POST UPDATE NOW!!!
Anyway:
This IS the last update, as I lost.. I obviously didn't win.

First thing when I started again, Pacal offered a trade. YES PLEASE!

By the way, this is that war between Pacal and Isabella

Isabella finishes Apollo...

And Pacal tries to bring me into the war. Thankfully, he still likes me after I refuse.

UN comes up.
I vote Isabella. Of course.

Pacal wins, and please note that I'm researching Machinery.

Coryhauwhatever revolts.... and then leaves me for Spain.

Spain conquers part of Maya..

And some Mayan cities achieve legendary culture..

Also, a UN resolution passes, but it wasn't important.

My Generals think I'm stupid, just as.....

Pacal wins a Cultural Victory.

So I lost, but I did survive. Spread the word, I plan to do another one w/ 18 civs/ Duel

Thanks for listening (is it really listening on a forum?) to me!

Well you survived, and that is the important part in a deity game. Maybe you will win the next one if the AI decides to kill each other. Good story.

Nice story! My thought with Rome is that if you are attacked Praets are 8 strength, so you could hold off SOME attack.

Not likely. 8 strength vs what will probably be 20 str infantry.

The problem with this game is the fact there are only 2 other civs. In a map with more civs, I think you'd be able to stay closer to parity. Tech trading is magnified by more civs and it is the single most important factor in getting a deity win.

you might like this story. it's also about a first diety game ;)
