It's one of those funny situations. For so long the Iran was asking for people to stop calling them Persia, as that's not how they thought of themselves. Yet many people who emigrated from that region in recent times like to refer to themselves as Persian as a way of disassociating themselves with modern Iran. So now they call themselves what they've been asking people not to call them for decades
And they open restaurants that serve the best lamb kebabs and saffron rice. (I like Levantine food a little bit more, but honestly I'll blithely take food from anywhere between Morocco and India. ) Now I want Turkish coffee...
Yes, it does. I always thought, since it is a tier 2 promotion, it would be +5 and then +7 with ranged promotions. But you are right, someone might pick the +?? in districts and then +7 overall. So it could be a ranged promotion. But that would be weird when it upgrades to muskets, right?
No, wait! The text is that of the battle cry promotion (+7 vs. melee and ranged units), not the arrow storm promotion (+7 vs. land and naval units). So it is the melee promotion tree.

My parents are going there next month to meet the family of my sister-in-law (who is Iranian), but I know that my mother very much isn't looking forward to having to wear a headscarf. That said, I've heard (and seen, on photo's of my brother and sister-in-law) that it indeed is a very beautiful country.

Great news! I'm actually surprised by myself how much I treasure new wonders (as long as they are good and focus on mechanics not present in the already included wonders). I think interesting new wonders and later in the expansions one or two new district can spice up the game a lot more than a new civ in the long run.
That is weird. Historically they did capture cities. I guess Persia *has* to build cavalry or other melee units to capture cities instead now....bizarre. Gameplay wise and realism wise.
So now I will wait for a mod that add melee attack for they (something like the Zulu UU in Civ5, that trew spears at the enemy before attacking, but instead of spears, arrows.)
