First Look Persia

Unique Ability - Satrapies - Gain a free trade route upon researching the Political Philosophy Civic, as well as bonuses to internal trade routes.

Leader Ability - Fall of Babylon - Lessened diplomatic penalty when declaring surprise war; all units gain an additional movement point upon the declaration of a surprise war.

Unique Unit - Immortal - Swordsman replacement that has a ranged attack, but a strong combat defense.

Unique Improvement - Pairidaeza - Provides Culture, Gold, and Appeal. Also provides bonuses with adjacent districts and city centers. Gains even more bonus with the progression of civics and technologies.

It sounded like it was pronounced Satrapiha.

Does the unique ability provide a just an extra trade route, or does Persia receive a trader as well? Regardless, seems like a good ability.

Not sure how I feel about having no Swordsman, though. I guess Immortals + Horsemen will probably be a strong army.

I think that matches Persia's historical army composition pretty well. It sounds good for taking cities too.

It's a free extra. If you pause the video you can see that it is at 4/4 before Political Philosophy is finished, then becomes 4/5 with a free trader spawned in the capital (still unsent so it'll be 5/5 when you do that)

Though finding horses becomes much more important now

I wonder about upgrade and promotion path too. If it's ranged it can't be upgraded from warrior, leaving warriors around until the discovery of gunpowder?
And probably seeing him in a game should mean "Surprise war in 3... 2... 1..."
But I think I'll still wait for the 4th DLC and then see if I can get them in a bundle or something.

That is very true. How strong is the immortal? Could it stand up to being attacked by a swordsman? (I can't watch the video at the moment)

That is excellent, and seems like a strong, flexible ability.

Of course it will. Unless you got the Deluxe Edition, which includes the first four (Persia is part of #4) DLC packs, you only get the 18 original civs (19 leaders with Gorgo) and the Aztecs, exactly as advertised.

I'm a little confused as to why it replaces the Swordsman. Possibly would have worked better as a standalone unit (like the Samurai).

Thanks for your answer! That's bollocks though, I really hate this pay-to-play approach than many companies have adopted.

It's like after-market parts for a car. You don't need it, but it can make it more fun.

I'm pretty pleased with how they're portraying immortals this time around and the Cyrus model looks great. Guess we'll see what the second civ for this pack will be

Oh come on. You got what you paid for. What you're not getting, however, are the mini-expansion and (supposedly) normal expansions after. Why? Because you haven't paid for them. Pay for them and you have them. But I don't see why DLC's should be free. It's bonus content, so you gotta pay bonus to get it. Just makes sense.

True, but I liked more Civ3 and Civ4, that they were complete games, and they were adding more civs with each expansion. Anyway, I will wait for steam sales, I am not going to give away 4.99 euros per civ, having already payed 60 euros for the game.
