First Look Persia

Oh come on. You got what you paid for. What you're not getting, however, are the mini-expansion and (supposedly) normal expansions after. Why? Because you haven't paid for them. Pay for them and you have them. But I don't see why DLC's should be free. It's bonus content, so you gotta pay bonus to get it. Just makes sense.

60 euros for a half game doesn't make sense though. Set the price to 30 euros, and then ye, add DLCs for 5 euros. Wake up community.

True, but I liked more Civ3 and Civ4, that they were complete games, and they were adding more civs with each expansion. Anyway, I will wait for steam sales, I am not going to give away 4.99 euros per civ, having already payed 60 euros for the game.

So expansions are fine, but mini-expansions are not? I don't get the logic there.

The big question is will the devs fix the AI so they constantly denounce you for you being a Warmonger if you are DoW'd upon.

So are we at peak beard yet?

How is 19 civs "a half game"? 19 civs means 19 games before you can even have a win with every kind, let alone the four different win conditions, different map types, different map layouts, etc.

If you'd say it was a half game because the AI was utterly stupid and because techs went too fast and everything, yeah, you'd have a point then, but hey, that's all getting fixed (or has gotten fixed) in free patches.

Thanks for your answer! That's bollocks though, I really hate this pay-to-play approach than many companies have adopted.

There's a chance one or two of them will be included in the first expansion (IIRC for Civ 5 Spain was part of DLC and later included in Gods and Kings?). But by that point they probably would've been like $1 in a steam sale.

As long as they don't introduce another expansion for 60 euros, it's fine. If they decide to just grow the game with DLCs, then this might be the better way. But I doubt it, they will introduce both DLCs and expansions, so they can get in total around 300 euros per person.

Yeah I was wondering myself about that!
I heard they will release two civs on DLC 4th, so is it true?
Yes, it will be a 2 Civ pack. Price TBD (probably $7.50 in the States - and of course "free" if you bought the Deluxe Edition).

Obviously, you are one of the reasons companies follow this approach. I don't see a common line between us. If you like it like this, it's ok. I believe that Civ3 and 4 had more options to offer, than Civ6 has. It is my opinion and I don't expect everyone to feel ok with it. I just believe that companies lose customers like this, they don't gain more.

To be honest with you, I expect them to add a few of the DLCs with the expansion.

Important difference: Civ 3 and Civ 4 already have their expansions if you look back at them right now. We'll probably get a few expansions for Civ 6 too, which are probably much more your kind of stuff. This is also a way of differentiating between customers: Some want everything, some just buy the expansions and not the DLC's, or only the DLC's they want.

Moderator Action: This is a thread to discuss Persia, can we please get back on topic

I'm curious how the Immortal's upgrade line works. The only other instance of a unit from one line replacing one from another is the Maryannu, but it is at the beginning, so nothing upgrades into it.

Warrior > Immortal > Crossbowman?
More likely Warrior>Musket
Immortal>Crossbow

60 euros full game... you just have to wait for the full game to finish development (I got Civ V, all expansions and DLC for 50$... I bought it when CivBE came out)

That would not be cool. Avoid making warriors.
It would fit with their keeping upgrades constant in promotion trees

The other option is the pathway is
Warrior>Immortal>Musket
and the immortal gets the normal Heavy Melee promotions.

I dislike that there's so many DLC civs that have bonuses from trade routes considering the hassle the current UI system for trade routes has from so many unnecessarily clicks.

Cyrus is to be expected, though I was hoping for someone never represented in the Civ franchise before like a Sassanid leader. Seems like Persia is geared towards Warmongering now. I like the music, anyone familiar with Persian music can identify the theme?

I won't be excited about Macedonia as a Civ, that takes the spot from other civs I want. Or maybe it does not? Who knows. I still think Alexander is a Greek leader.

After thinking it over a bit, I think I'm pretty disappointed with their abilities. Not that they're weak, actually I think they'll probably be top tier for deity, just that they look boring, their flavour is basically just spam settlers until you meet someone, then spam immortals and rush the poor sucker. Where's the complexity, where's the fun, and most importantly, where's the xwedodah!?
