catholics arent perfect. dont act like they are.
All I am saying is dont use me as a punching bag. Not all Catholics are crazy. I am most certanly not in the screwed up section.

are you saying a man who died for freedom would like to see a man jailed for expressing his opinion?
Most certanly, or at least be given a fine for defacing ones own national flag.

However flag burning is disrespect to one's own country. If you burn your country's flag, youre esentialy saying that you dont care about the lives that has been sacrificed to ensure our freedom is safe since the formation of the US Republic.

I don't see why it makes a difference whether it's your own country's flag. Burning a British flag, for example, could be considered disrespectful to soldiers who fought for their freedom. It's a double standard to say you can burn another country's flag but not your own country's.

BTW, I support all flag burning being legal.

That's ridiculous. If I had fought for America to be free, I wouldn't want to see those freedoms I fought for being revoked. After all, whats the point of defending your country from nations that would take away our freedom if we're going to take away our own freedoms anyway?

The lives had been sacrificed so the people would have the freedom of burn the flag. I find it horrible burning the American flag, but the protesters still have the right to do so as their freedom of expression

Their way of protest is disrespectfull and unpatriotic as well as immature. I dont see burning the flag of one's own country as a freedom of expression. I see it as a form of disrespect to one's own country as well as being unpatriotic to their own country.

but why should disrespect and unpatriotism be illegal?

why can someone not have opposing viewpoints in your eyes?

and what is the difference between glorifying a flag and a false idol?

You are esentialy burning a little pieace of the United States, which in my eyes is disrespect for the flag and being unpatriotic in saying "I hate this country!".

They can, but they should do it like people. Not anarchists or little children burning everything they see.

Glorifying a flag is showing respect to the flag as well as your home country.

so what would you do then with all the flag burners? lock them up, fine or deport them?

Since we all know that making something illegal doesn't stop it from happening I would like to know exactly what you would propose.

I'll say it again: the problem with detaining or fining flag burners is that people should see the people that are burning the flags.

It's usually an assortment of Islamist religious fanatics, hard-core communists, 60s hippie-radicals pretending they're still young, tenured university professors, black separatists, militant lesbians, illegal immigrants, and a few Columbia University students.

Not to mention drunk white suburban kids, and people like me who weren't screwed on right.:crazyeye:

I don't think illegal immigrants would be flag burners. They're too busy trying to hide to go out and burn flags. Besides, they're probably only making mininum wage, so they're working all day.

That's right, I forgot the suburban white teen. I also forgot the eco-fanatic (who may very well fit into several of the aforementioned categories) and the "anarchists," whose ideology seems to be based on burning things and vandalizing property that they don't own.

If they had time to organize 50,000+ strong marches* in major cities, they can burn a few pieces of cloth.

* Of course, the "Great American Boycott" had a negligible effect, and areas hurt the most appeared to be Hispanic areas.

The best part about the angsty suburban white kid, is that they usually consider themselves anarchists/ "earth defenders" They may also consider themselves communists or revolutionaries, and are usually very pretentious individuals.

Anyone who burns the flag is an idiot and needs to get a life. Thats it. Some people have to get educated, work, have friends or a girlfriend, or children and dont have time to torch the simbol of the country which gives them the right to do so.

Hah, thats too bad, but you see we live in America where we have the right to offend and be offended 24/7.

Don't like people burning flags? Does it offend you? Offend them back!

By the way, burning a flag doesn't take that much time.

You think the founding fathers would have seen this loophole coming.

Oh you dont want to know what I want to do to those people sometimes.
By the way, burning a flag doesn't take that much time.
Still a waste of what it does take.

I think they did, and wholeheartedly embraced it!:)

You have the right to offend them, not to butcher them and eat their sweet flesh.

Still a waste of what it does take.

Depends on what message you're trying to get across.
