Hey. I'm new here, and I've decided to show my skills in flag making/finding. Have you ever been playing a game, and have your self go "Wow, I wish I could see what flags myself and the computer would be flying if this was real life." Well, I have. I'd be happy to show what the flags should be for each Civ, if anyone wants to. Here is an example, Canada:

Despotism Communism
Monarchy Republic
Fundamentalism Democracy

What do you all think? I'd be glad to post any other Civs people want.

I like em!

I think the Republic flag should have Maple Leafs instead of stars but those pretty darn good.

Hehehe..I just noticed that Fundy flag looks like pot leaves on a flag of England ,thats Canadian for sure ;)

You gotta make a Commie flag for the good ole USA

Sounds interesting.

While I was playing my France game I kept myself occupied during the modern ages development trying to make up a little story that I was planning on eventually posting here. Sadly, I don't remember too much of the original story (I finished the game months ago), but I do remember a few details about what the flags (in the story) looked like. Here's a list of some of the ideas I had:

France--Throughout the whole story, the blue-white-red Tricolore as the national flag. I also had ideas for the flags for some of the provinces I also made up (in a Word .doc, listing which city was in what province and on what continent).

The Tricolore

Babylonia--Originally, under the Hummarabic Dynasty, the national flag was a golden winged bull man set against a field of green. The naval jack was similar, except it was a red-green-red vertical tricolor (like the French one) with the golden bullman in the center of the green. When the Babylonians overthrew the Communist regime (after the French had already "liberated" most of the country) the national flag became a golden silhouette of the bullman against a red background w/ a golden hammer-and-sickle in the canton (or top left corner, for those who don't understand "flag-speak" ;) ). The flag of the French Babylonia Territory was the French Tricolore with a green bullman silhouette in the center.

Monarchist National Flag (thanks Chieftess for these four!)

England--Union Jack all the way for the national flag of the nation of England. After 1948 (in the game), I represented the French England Territory as the Tricolore with an inesteucheon of the three Tudor lions. Independent England, of course, remained the same.

Stupid image limit, I'll have to link to the rest.

Russia--Originally a Monarchy, so I used the pre-1917 (our world) flag for them (which also happens to be the modern national flag of Russia). After they went Communist as well, I represented it as the national flag of the Soviet Union. The French Russia Territory used the Tricolore with the Romanov eagle (minus the crowns) in the center; it was later divided into two other territories, each of which also had its own flag (though I can't remember them).

I do this sort of thing to amuse myself all the time :) I might be able to make and/or find some of these.

Actually, now that I've gotten that out of my head, I'm starting to remember a little of that story.

EDIT: Was able to find some flags and cobble together another. May need some help designing the flags for the babylonians and a couple of others.

EDIT2: Got some help in making the missing flags (thanks Chieftess!)

@Smash: A USSA flag has already been made. If I find the link to it I'll show you.

EDIT: Actually, I found four:

Those are some good ones. I try to use real flags as often as I can (thus the "real" Republic of Canada flag vs. something with the maple leaf), so Rome=Italy, and Babylonia=Iraq. Anyway, here is by take on the nations mentioned so far:

France:

Babylon/Iraq

Yeah, I'm a little different in that respect. For the ancient nations I pretty much try to follow flags/symbols that have already been used or discovered. Sometimes if there's a traceable path directly back to an ancient culture from a modern one I'll throw in a mix of ancient and modern flags. Of course, I only create the flags in my head and not on the comp like you've done (did I mention earlier that my drawing skills stink?).

Another thing I try to include is the fact that a flag may change over time even w/o a new regime; for instance, in the little storyline I have for the "France game" the Babylonian flag is basically a simplified version of their ancient war and processional standards.

I'd like to see some of the others you have :)

These are quite interesting, but I wonder how they'd look after resizing to match the space in the cities.gif file.

Specialist 290 - thats not 'England's' national flag.

That is the union flag, and is made up of St Georges Cross (England), St Andrews Cross (Scotland) and St Patricks Cross (Ireland or rather Northern Ireland since 1916). When England, Wales and Scotland were formally United in 1707 (or is that 1709?) it was decreed that all British ships should carry a 'jack' made up of the English and Scottish flags (Ireland was'nt added until later). Poor Wales has never been represented on the Union flag but they do have a kick arse one of thier own.

I really get annoyed when people mix up 'England' and 'Britain'

I suggest an hour on Wikipedia.com make sure to look up Britian the British Ilses, England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.

oh yeah BTW these flags look fantastic!

i might have a go but i only have mspaint!

- funnily enough i don't reckon the UK flag would change that much, as it is the UK has been more or less all six of those...

I am fully aware of that. However, Great Britain is not represented in Civ2 as a whole in and of itself. Therefore, I used the Union Flag as England's national flag.

And, in fact, it was 1707 (the Act of Union, under Queen Anne, IIRC).

I am also rather particular about the use of "England" and "Great Britain" myself, so I can understand where you're coming from.

Can you use these flags in the game? I've had this game forever, I've just never tried modding it before now... I have some original flags of my own I'd like to use in the game if I can.
