Here's more fun. I'm throwing around several variations of a design idea I had for the Democratic Republic of Oceania.

The idea is a combination of the Tino Rangatiratanga flag (the Maori nationalist movement flag - and the prettiest NZ flag idea without the Union Jack) as well as the Aboriginal flag (ugly by itself, but similar colour scheme to Tino Rangatiratanga). The Southern Cross needs no explanation though I've juggled the Ozzie cross (with epsilon) and the Kiwi cross (simpler).

Choose the best design.

Bring back the Union Jack, the Southern Cross [in red], and a modified Federation Star

Or just change the ugly white stars to red put it on the black for contrast, and use an 8 pointed federation star (NZ, SA, NT [Yes we will be a star], WA, VIC, NSW, VA, TAS) in black on the red background

My argument about not using the Union Jack is because the Republic (dirty word) has broken off all ties with the UK.
I was considering using some variation of the Flag of the United Tribes (below for people who don't know what it is) as well but I thought I'd go hard and play with designs.

Federation Star was another problem because I do intend to incorporate a whole lot of new places into the republic (dirty word).

Actually now that I look at it Banana, I prefer just having the currently white stars changed to a more appropriate red (for the contrast with the black on the other side), with the big star from the Australian flag having X amount of points for the constituent members of the Federation in black (for the contrast with the red on the other side).

The last one is nice though unchanged

As to the Federation Star, it can go from States to Nations after a while then go to regions etc

Properly red stars would be better . I also feel lowering the white bit to decrease the amount of red and allow a central sun and larger stars ala:

Heh, I still maintain that having the top-left black band the same width as the white band and the bottom-right red band produces a pleasing symmetry.
