Flag Corps

Flag Corps 3.0.0

Really loving this mod, thanks so much! I like how there is a difference in the flags for units that have spent their movement vs ones that have movement left but I just wish it a bit more noticeable or eye catching. Not sure if it would just be increasing the transparency a bit more or adding a pop of color or glow or something, but would just be nice if the units that are still awaiting orders really stood out

i can't take credit for that, it's a base game feature. i think it's making the flags partly transparent when you run out of movement, and it's more effective for light colors than for dark ones. i'll see if i can make the difference more pronounced.

Ran into a random issue, one time, where the city banner over an IP didn't go away after the AI dispersed them. I was befriending them and was past the first step, as far as additional info I can give. There were also my units and two other AI leader units near by.

i think i've seen that in the vanilla game too. can you reproduce the problem? if so, please send me a save file (here or on the official Civ discord). i'll investigate & fix it if possible. i already fixed a few other things where the game was missing an important event handler, like when you reallocate resources.

I will try to grab an auto save next time. I think this is also caused by Flag Corps:

that one is a known issue in the base game since release:
Settlement HP Bar Will Overlap Diplomacy Menu

i can try to fix it, but i didn't cause it 😉
Should have known you wouldn't have let sometime like that slide! Not a big deal at all, just wanted to let you know in case it was from the mod, as I assume modders are perfectionists. I'm sure they'll get around to fixing it eventually, haha.

yeah, i actually fixed a couple other things like that, where the vanilla feature was missing some important event handlers. for example, i fixed the problem where resource allocation wasn't updating city banners. now you can immediately see the effects of happiness, food, and production changes in your cities.

i suspect there's a similar problem with dispersed villages sticking around. the banners are supposed to delete themselves when the underlying settlement doesn't exist, but villages are weird (they're improvements, not districts) so it's possible that they didn't implement a handler for it. i'll see if i can reproduce. i do try to fix the vanilla bugs when i can!

one thing i haven't been able to figure out yet: the unit flags automatically rearrange themselves when a unit moves into a space, but i have no idea how to rearrange them when a unit leaves a space, so you can end up with weird gaps in the unit "parade" until something else happens to rearrange them. (vanilla has this problem too, but its stacking is so cluttered that you probably never noticed, haha).

@BrianKindly update: i thought i already knew how to add an event handler for the Diplomacy screen, but it turns out that it only handles diplomacy events like starting or ending a war. i currently don't know of a way to fix the health bars without also modding the diplomacy screen, so for now i'll wait for Firaxis to fix the bug. i also found a save where an AI player disperses a village, and i could not reproduce the problem you saw, so please send me a save if you see it happen again.

I run a lot of mods, so forgive me if this isn't from this mod, but I believe it is lol.

I think the city banner portraits "attitude" isn't being updated on cities that you take over to your leader with the default face/attitude.

Long story short I got Waset(left side) in a peace deal from Ben Franklin. It is showing my leaders headshot on the city, but it's showing "angry" which corresponds how Benny boy feels about me right now. But I imagine your intention is that the cities you own always show the straight face headshot of the leader you're playing, as seen on Miletos(right side).

on cities owned by you, the portrait's mood reflects local happiness. Waset is unhappy, so the portrait is too.

D'ohhhhhh! My mistake, thanks for clarification. Intuitively, I guess that didn't dawn on me, as the residents would be upset, not the leader. I'm now looking at a city of Ben's right now, who is still upset at me, and noticed his face isn't angry on the city, so I assume their faces don't change based on relationship?

Random aside, but I really like the banners for the fact that I can tell if an enemy settlement is a city or town(plus it's specialization), I never understood why they took the time to make a "palace" vs. a "city hall" but didn't make towns show a "town hall" instead lol.

Happened again. Extra weird situation here, the IP spawned on a resource lol.

oh! there are several bugs related to this situation. villages aren't supposed to spawn on resources, and when they do they can vanish without actually being dispersed. i suspect that's why the game didn't clean it up properly. i'll take a look at the save later – i'm currently working on a hotfix for City Hall because the new game update broke it.

Thanks for this - I started a game w/o the mod last night and noticed that AI units you are at war with still do NOT get the red frame in the base game. (only hostile IP get red frame - makes no sense whatsoever)

Your mod fixes this so going to reactivate it.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but it would be really helpful if there was an option to slightly increase the size of the unit icons. Thanks anyway for your mods.
