The Latin Empire is formed by a resurgent byzantine empire that readopts the latin language as the main language of the empire....hence the name. Admittedly I didn't know the origins of the Eagle. I am not a huge history buff or have an extensive education in the subject although I am trying to find out more as life goes along. I may have to edit the flag now knowing the origin of the Eagle. The other symbols on the right side are the symbols of the Empire's church which because of the empire's location includes influences from Judaism, Catholicism, Greek Orthodoxy, and Islam. Admittedly its not one of the more realistic alternate histories discussed in the alternate history thread and its quite implausible, but so far I am having fun with it.
This flag is actually designed in 1500 after the creation of the prince's lands from the royal territories. Originally the flag included a different version of the eagle, the flag of Alexandria, and the yellow line on the bottom wasn't there. In later versions I've made I have stolen the sun on the Philippines flag.
Note: I've been using a victoria 2 map for the world mainly because I plan to eventually transfer it to a more proportioned and informative map with rivers at the very least on it, but I really have no excuse for using it other than laziness I guess. I could post that in the alternate history map if people are interested or if anyone has interest in the other flags I'll post those here.
Side Note: This originally diverged from a round of Crusader Kings (insert cheesy advertisement) and I was playing a greek dynasty and after reuniting most of the byzantine empire, conquering the Levant, Egypt, Italy, and a large part of the balkans I started exploring the idea of what could happen...and the Latin Empire was born and since then......I've gone a bit overboard in the alternate history without a lot of explanation which I'm slowly working on.
