Flame Warriors - which one are you?

Moderator Action: Let's have some actual discussion. This type of thread encourages spam, so don't. Don't just answer the OP

I just want so bad for everyone to get along!

How accurately do you guys think the site portrays forum-goers? Me, I think very, but then I'm really limited to CFC in experience.

It pretty much hits the reality in a nutshell. Browsing through the different types of flamers gave me some secret insights into how some people here think and how they possibly look like.
A good find after all, FP!

It's kinda like astrology or some other vague description where you can see yourself in it and see others through it.

Evil Clown is very quick with a joke, but his jests always have a barb. He has little patience for in-depth discussions and will often disrupt exchanges between serious forum participants by introducing irrelevant topics, fatuous quips, and offhand comments. His greatest thrill is to taunt and humiliate weaker or more plodding Warriors with his snappy ripostes.

Did someone just jump to the front of your head? Obviously I can't name names....

I guess this portrays me:

Big Cat would rather not fight...he enjoys peacefully observing forum conversations and laconically participates when the moods strikes. He playfully chases interesting threads, and from time to time uses a Newbie or Propellerhead as a convenient scratching post. He enjoys being stroked or petted, and tends to purr loudly. CAUTION: Don't be fooled by his fuzzy, playful exterior. When provoked, Big Cat reacts with lightning speed and almost always lands on his feet after an attack. Big Cat often indulges himself by toying with his victim before delivering his lethal blows.

I only post when I feel like it and most of the time I don't feel like it :p certain topics trigger my interest and then I can be a mean b*st*rd. Taking a look at my total posts and join date might give you some insight .. on most other fora, I even have less posts per day hehe.

I'd say "Big Cat" describes me best, mainly because I'd rather just hang around and watch other people argue than get into it myself.

Edit: Darn fugazi. But yeah; what he said.

Exactly what I thought when I read the links. Not everybody fits into the classic archetypes, but you can definitely try to fit everyone there! Oh no, now I'm a Me-Too because I piggy-backed on you! But wait, now I'm being sarcastic, so maybe I'm a clown! I hate clowns... :suicide:

If you include my two or three lurking years before joining, then I'm kind of a former Big Cat turned Eagle Scout turned Jekyll-Hyde. Maybe.

I think that has to do also with which forum you are in. My post count jumps by leaps and bounds in the off-topic forums, while it stays moderate in the World History and General Game discussions. The off-topic forums are very, what's the word, "accomodating" when it gets into discussion and small posts. Or huge ones with thirty quotes in them.

This thing needs a quiz or something to narrow down the choices. I am curios (and open) to see what others think I am though... :hide:

That's what would be more interesting, how others saw you, not so much how you see yourself.

I used to be Eagle Scout or fairly close to it. I truly believed forums could be great exchanges of meaningful and useful information shared in a friendly manner by people with like interests. I thought having shared interests would make a forum where you could ask any question, no matter how clueless, and be answered in a sociable, thoughtful, informative way. I also believed that playing a MMORPG would be like being an actor in a world where everyone acted their role too; and you were automatically "one of the gang". I was in reality asking to be mocked, insulted, ignored (esp. ignored), attacked, reviled - I really was shocked all those years ago.

I remember my first online chess games. I was a fairly good tournament player, no master but I had expert-level performances in several over-the-board tournaments, so I thought I wouldn't be out of place at the ICC. Played some 5 minutes games against I don't recall his name, won all of them - and this guy starting blasting me with insults, racist comments, obscenities. Welcome to online gaming, the sport of kings! I learned to turn the comments off (which turns off the social aspects too, unfortunately) but I've had similar experiences all over the 'net.

I try not to be confrontational and not to make things personal. I slip on occasion, but I can count on the fingers of one hand the times I've intentionally stirred things up. It's happened here, but it was truly unintentional - and frankly, given the abrupt and curt responses many people post, mine was still rather tame.

I think what keeps me from being a Flame Warrior is I don't care enough about what anonymous people think to try and persuade them or inform them or flame them. I'm thinking that other people don't care either. I mean I see lots of - in many threads - very sharp, cutting, argumentative responses to other people's post that if done in real life, I think would generate lots of irritation and animosity.

For example, in real life, if you and a friend were talking about a movie and someone walked in and said, "That? I hated it, it's stupid, and only idiots would find it interesting" and went on his way, we both would think he was a jerk. Yet on a forum, you can do virtually that or close to that and no one thinks twice. Hell, they're doing it too.
