Champions League draw:

Apoel vs. Real
Marseilles vs. Bayern
Chelsea vs. Benfica
AC Milan vs. Barca

Then the winners of the first two and the winners of the other two make up the semifinals. This is completely accidental and the likelihood of a Barcelona-Real Madrid final being very high had no influence on the 'randomness' of the draw.

Europa League

Alkmaar vs Valencia
Schalke vs Bilbao
Sporting vs Metalist
Atletico vs Hannover

Everyone has a chance!

Apoel will win for sure!

Bayern might just stop that from happening, and then lose at home.

Hopefully Muamba will be okay, seems like he is in a stable condition after collapsing earlier.

i too wonder why the "modern game" makes players more prone to collapsing and having cardiac arrest than the, ehm, "oldschool game"(?).
especially since "collapsing and having cardiac arrest" can have quite a few different causes.

well, we dont know what caused muamba to collapse, so let's hope he get's out of this alive and without brain damage.

Quite simply, levels of fitness involved come with higher statistical risk, which translates for us a guy dying on the park every year or two.

I'm lost on what you are trying to argue Holy King, but yes, the levels of exertion required to maintain levels of fitness demanded by modern football do increase risks of heart problems.

A variety of cardiovascular abnormalities represent the most common causes of sudden death in competitive athletes. The precise lesions responsible for athletic field catastrophes differ considerably with regard to age. For example, in youthful athletes (younger than 35 years) the vast majority of sudden deaths are due to several congenital cardiac malformations

The design of a screening strategy must take into account the fact that sudden cardiac death in athletes is an infrequent event and that only a small proportion of participants in organized sports in the United States is at risk.

Indeed, each of the lesions known to be responsible for sudden death in young athletes occurs infrequently in the general population, ranging from the relatively common, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (1:500),31 to the very rare, such as coronary artery anomalies, arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia, long QT syndrome, or Marfan syndrome,

The American Heart Association recommends that some form of preparticipation cardiovascular screening for high school and collegiate athletes is justifiable and compelling, based on ethical, legal, and medical grounds.

so, it happens rarely, and virtually only when there is a preexisting condition (usually a malformation).
so what modern fitness levels do is increase the risk of those malformations causing cardiac arrest.

hopefully, muamba's case will result in cardiovascular screening becoming more prevalent.

athletes dying on the pitch certainly isnt the inevitability caused by modern training methods you painted it to be, but rather down to how careful medical exams are executed.

Indeed, there are of course individual reasons but with imperfect information this translates to increased risk as exertion rises, which translates as a footballer dying on the pitch every two years or more often as it continues.

Anybody deserves to win when facing Sellik IMHO.

Takhisis, there is no team called Bilbao ;) Athletic Club, please :)

Atletico is about to ask to move the match to wednesday because there is a call for general strike on the 29th in Spain. There won't be warranty of transport or security. Anyway, I don't think it is going to be followed up by many people in Madrid.

Plus, Athletic Club from Bilbao is having match against Barcelona on saturday which means having less than 48 hours for rest. If this match is moved to sunday Barcelona will have less less than 48 hours before their champions league match. There is one match playing at 12:00 PM (midday) on sunday, what would mean both teams having more than the regulatory 48 hours, but Barcelona has allready said that won't play at this hour. Anyhow, here we have another case of traditional Spanish fine way of organization.
I have not heard nothing, but I think it would be desirable for Athletic Club asking for moving match against Schalke and see what happens.

Will see if any date is changed

UEFA says it is. Bow down, peasant!

Messi is the topscoring professional player of FC Barcelona. Wow.
And it was a great match instead of the usual 8-0 demolition, too!
