Football Thread No. 9

Their expectation was wrong, but it was as a direct consequence of the bizarre (oh, wait I can't say that, can I?) extremely odd free-kick decision.

You can say what you want (speech freedom and stuff like that ;) ), but at the risk of being wrong.

Or may be not.

Talking about football, today we have the second leg, I don't feel very confident about the match tonight, Llorente has been in doubt until yesterday, De Marcos has not trained on monday and thursday due to flu, and what is more important, I am pretty sure that Sir Alex Ferguson has taken note about Athletic's play.
I have heard that Manchester is lining up Paul Scholes, if he still is able to battle with Iturraspe and Herrera, Athletic won't play the same way as they are Athletic Club's game's key
Let see what happens.

BTW, last monday Spanish press released that La Liga clubs have a debt of 752 milion € with the Treasury.

Leaders in this particular classification are Atletico de Madrid, who debts 120 million and Deportivo La Coruña, now in second division, debting 90 million.

A blatant case of financial doping (just speaking about sports, I want to keep calm so I am not going to speak about an evident theft)

Aparently among all "professional" clubs (20 in first division, 22 in second division and a little less than 60 in second B division) only Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Club, Real Sociedad, Getafe, Villarreal & Sporting Gijon are free of debts with Treasury.

Were Real Madrid when they were indebt just bailed out by the Spanish Government

I would like to clarify that in the early 2000s the Spanish Government pait over the value fot the training ground, and offered them other land for a new training ground. Allowing them to clear their debts and embark on a spending spree.

Well, officialy Real Madrid have never been bailed out by Spanish Government, neither by city council
Real Madrid had some estates in which they were training and were was located the youth school, they bought very cheap because as per the city council this states were not able to build apartmets or offices.
City council changed this status, so Real Madrid sold these states at a very good price. EDIT: what del62 is saying in the inmediatly previous post is absoultely right, expressed in better englihs than mine and shows the seriousness of the facts better than this paragraph [END EDIT]

That's the way Spañistan and the brick culture works, but this is a topic for the off-topic forum rather than football thread

There are rumours as well that in in the 1995/1996 season Real Madrid did not deliver the documentation on time (at least it was correct documentation) to La Liga's organization. There is no information about this because Sevilla and Celta de Vigo delivered a defective documentation so they were relegated to sencond B division, and that became the top new in every paper in the country.

This fact became in a sample of the traditional spanish efficiency, an ode to the clumsiness, the teams that were relegated the previous season were readmited in La Liga in order to continue having 20 teams, Sevilla and Celta threatened to ordinary courts (what would paralize the season), so they were readmited again.

But as I said before just rumours, in any case, they had enough rescue being Franco's team during almos 40 years

That's it! I want Falcao back!

And another €600 million with the Spanish social security system.

More importantly, it appears that the clubs are aiming for a write off of the entire €1.3 billion owed to the Spanish state. Screw them...

The debt to treasury I told was including the social security.

The clubs are aiming for a condonation of debt, the gobernment has no money, they have impossed a hard labor reform, they are not going to accomplish EU's requirements but who cares, Spain won the world cup!!

I'm pretty hungover today due to both my teams winning historic games last night

Chelsea of course beat Napoli at home 4-1 to advance to the quarterfinals

TFC beat Galaxy away 2-1 to become the first Canadian team ever to make it to the CONCACAF champions league semi-finals

I remember pretty well!!! Kevin Keagan was the coach, wasn't he?
We did not play anything until minute 60 of first leg, and the result was 3-0, we scored 2 goals at last.
Then in Bilbao the score was 1-0.

People remembers that we were treated very well in newcastle.
You won't find any athletic club supporter that has something bad to say about newcastle united and it's supporters since then.

Yep Keegan was the coach, I remember in the second leg towards the end Bilbao got a penalty and hit the post, then from the rebound the taker scored, the goal was disallowed as no one else had touched the ball.
