Football Thread No. 9

I expect him to take over Xavi's role in the national squad in a few years; he's played in that role ahead of Fabregas currently (or so I'm told).

No, Cazorla is more used to play on wings.
I am getting blind or there are no comments on Javi Martinezs move to Bayer munich?

Liverpool, destroyed again.

Hearts lost at home to Dundee (WTH?) while the Hibs somehow come home with a point from Glasgow… are Celtic just expecting everyone to take points off each other and crawl to the title themselves?
It would also appear that Rangers feel it's mandatory to concede at home before romping to 5-1 wins. It appears to work, for now.

I did read about it and it seems a bit strange as I'm not sure if Bilbao get any sort of compensation or can he move on a free transfer because of his age and presumably a contract being close to expiring?

'Close to' isn't the same as being actually expired.

Ah okay the Guardian article wasn't very informative. So Javi Martinez had to buy out his contract which Bayern must have then had to pay him so that he could leave. I guess the money is at least useful in the long term even if Bilbao can't necessarily sign a replacement.

The compensation is 40M €.
Spanish club musts include a contract termination clause in the contract, say 10M €. If players desposites 10M € he is free. Javi Martinez's one was 40 M
40M € sounds pretty good, but here in Bilbao people is upset because of this issue. We did no expect him living this way, he did not even say goodbye. And we think that the team proyect was quite interesting, but it is crumbling as Fernando Llorente ends contract next 30th june and has allready said that he is not going to sign another one.

Yeah, Sunday's matches proved the value of a solid striker. I mean, people moaned about RVP carrying Arsenal, but what would Man Utd do without him? And you know you're screwed when you find yourself missing Andy Carroll...

BR came out and basically said that he would not of let AC leave for WH if he wasn't certain of getting new strikers. The LP board were not willing or unable to back his bids for Dempsey. Owen and Heskey are on a free, i think BR should revive the strikeforce which meant a 5-1 drubbing of Germany ;)

Very happy with Sunday's game, fantastic that both Cazorla and Podolski got scoring boots on. Couldn't have asked for more really; maybe a goal for Giroud, but that's being greedy.

Talking about Australian football is Curtis Good and Good?

Talking about doing apparently stupid things to get more money, have you heard that Cristiano Ronaldo is sad in Real Madrid and that he might go to the City?

He says he is "sad" for professional reasons at the club and he is not sad because of losing out on an award to Iniesta. I think it was yesteday he said he wasn't looking for a better contract, which was basically my best guess at this whole "sadness" thing (if it is true). There are only a handful of clubs in the world who will pay the fee for him and his wages so unless he puts in a transfer request he is staying put.

If Drogba can go to China, anyone can go anywhere.
