Foreign Policy: RealmsBeyond

We give them our Map, then they give it to somebody that has (or can quickly get) high enough espy on us to see inside our cities. Then they can give RB screenshots of our cities and voila! RB knows exactly where we build Taj and how long it takes.
They dont have to do it so complicated. They have already all our cities scouted and they need just to give their map to whoever may have or have no enough espionage on us. Last time I checked there was no one who could possibly gain city visibility on us any soon.

well I don't think it should be seen as such... if not agreeing to every offer we get is seen as "rude", that's not good diplomacy, but more like dictatorship.
Very good vranasm.

I think they offer us exchanging world maps with the assumption we fill holes both of us have unscouted.
If one side feels that they already have everything they need, then there is no reason for the trade...

I don't see how they will see this as being "rude"...they for sure know that they are not the first ones to paper and can assume we got already world maps from someone else.

All good points. :)

Yes, the guys are acting pro-actively and dont fear we will ask them questions. I dont get some of our members fears of talking to RB. To not "shake the stinger's hive" or what? Why would we be afraid to talk if we think we are no less witty and cunning than them and actually can outspeak and benefit in words exchange? Anyway.

That one is easy. We tell them that we already have decent map of the world and we dont need theirs.

This way, we refuse to give ours and we dont say: "We wont give it".

edit: I saw that even you Sommers advise to not talk to RB at all

Thinking more on it, I think you come from the wrong conclusion that somehow making RB suspicious will make them to hurry Taj and beat us to it. Rest assured that they will do ANYTHING it takes to get it without us doing or saying anything. To make it clear, we have everything prepared to beat them and there is hardly something they can do to get it before us (if they dont have pre-chopped 13 forests in the dark.)

I don't know what to do or advise in this specific matter. But I just had a thought around what Sommer thought, in another thread, the possible Taj-conversation would be the other way around if we approached RB and how RB would respond to us - perhaps we should just do what Sommer fears RB would do, the other way around? I.e. "Hey RB. Sorry, we have all the map we need for the time being. But don't worry about the Taj. We will complete it on Turn X, so you can't complete it before us. But if you want some nice juicy failgold, you have a good chance at that!" ;) (I'm not serious of course, we're not going to tell them what turn we will complete Taj - but it would be hilarious..)

but you could still ask if they are on the TM race :-) the same way our team was afraid THEY would ask us...

we can even spin it with trying to hurry the marble trade from our side to help them ;-) obviously setting the turn behind our TM date...

but they probably know that we know they have marble from someone else... so the spin could turn out bad joke

Or just point out that we are annoyed that they trade with those who waged war against us. So not now, but maybe later. That way we give them the ball and we can see how far they will negotiate

Lol... I've done it again. I mistake our neighbours for being germans

So, a short and simple response like this then?

Scooter/RB,

Thank you for your offer to trade world maps. We currently have explored the lands we need, so we are not interested in a map trade at this point.

Caledorn, on behalf of Team CFC

Great!

And nice touch up about saying we "explored" the land we want to see. MZ told me he already refused map trade with RB telling them he have agreement with other team for not sharing map. ANd this way we dont fall direct in to the suspected ones.

I'll send it later this night then, unless there are any objections or additions :)

Dont hold up the letter on my account, but FTR, I would prefer we wait until Taj is ours to refuse the Map trade.

My reasoning is that I hope that they don't know where our Marble connections are. I am concerned that if we refuse the map trade, then they will ask somebody else for it (the Map). Once they get it they will know where our connections are, and we will be vunerable to spy-sabotage.

On the other hand, if we just don't say anything, there is a chance that they will wait, thinking that we will give them the Map soon. Once they realize that we wont give them the map in time for them to sabotage, it will be too late.

I believe the plan is to settle on top of the marble, so we shouldn't be vulnerable to sabotage missions.

Yeah, that is the plan as far as I know too, so I don't see how they could sabotage it. And besides that, we're talking about building the TM very soon, so if they don't already have a spy in the area they're not going to make it. And it would also be a breach of our nap if they sabotage our marble I think.

I postponed sending the message a few days as I figured it was no rush, and a little delay on this one wouldn't hurt. It's been sent now. :)

We should send something to rb along these lines:

Hi Scooter

As you might have noticed, the Spaniards have finally agreed to peace and we were able to connect our marble! We would like to gift it to you right away as per our agreement, since we would like to start on our own Epics in about ten turns. We have offered it in game so please ask your turnplayer to accept it.
Thanks,

Caledorn / Team CFC

I think the "right away" part is a bit insulting when it is obvious that we did not gift it to them right away. I think it is better to concede that we indeed used it, but without boasting about TM. Here is my revision:
