Foreign submarine in Swedish waters

I just love your two postings since you two seems to gave up posting any meaningful information and now you are only joking around.

I thought it was a joke to begin with, so I've been joking around from the start.

The Baltic Sea has submarines in it. Mostly Russian. That isn't news. It is also small enough that if you think you hear a submarine it could be 'violating the territory' of half a dozen different countries, or might be in it's own territory, or might be in that tiny sliver of international water. Until you pinpoint its location you have no idea what it is doing.

So the entire 'it is in our waters and we are searching for it' is an absurdity. To say it is in your waters you have to know where it is, so why are you searching for it?

Have you checked where they've been searching for the sub? I suspect even red_elk would think it's an inappropriate place to be found in.

On the other hand, it's entirely appropriate place for Russian submarine, to be not found in :mischief:
Along with mount Everest and my bathtub.

my reading of tims and reds posts is that that it has not been found in any place
My reading of tim's posts is that 1. no sub has been found; 2. if a Russian sub was to be found up our ass -'I mean, the Baltic sea is small, it has to be somewhere'; 3. even if Russia was breaching international laws, what are you going to do about it?

Of course, but you agree it's a hypothetical inappropriate place to be found in.

well untill it is found, saying it is an Australian Swedish sub that got homesick is just as much a reason for what is going on, as any other reason...

Mount Everest? You have to reconquer the Turkestan to get there.

Sure. It's a few miles from International water, and they haven't found anything there. So there is no real indication that whatever they heard ever was there. It was no doubt somewhere within fifty miles of there...well, most likely. Unless they didn't hear a submarine at all, which is also possible.

I've been involved in tracking submarines. You get a contact and say "Hey, there's a submarine somewhere!" If you can maintain the contact long enough you can say "Okay, it's somewhere over more or less that way." Then you set about tracking it and after some fairly extended time you can say "Okay, it is here, more or less," and point to a spot on a chart and figure it is within some margin of error that's at least in single digits in miles.

If they had a tight enough track to say 'This thing is in our territory, no doubt about it," then they wouldn't have to look for it later, because they could have just maintained the track. But all they did was hear a submarine somewhere. In the Baltic. And lost contact without determining where it was. Then they made a big deal about where it might have been.

Why would Russia do anything in the Baltic? I thought they were getting busy with their shiny new base in Crimea.

Ya got your southern fleet, and ya got your northern fleet, and ya can't mix them. Just like the US Navy. I was a Pacific fleet sailor, and was thus inherently superior to those Atlantic fleet sailors.

Noo.. You're just way off on the whole subject. Read the links in the first page if you want to inform yourself.

They haven't found any conclusive evidence of a Russian sub, so there's nothing to discuss about that. It wasn't expected that they'd find it but they could make a big deal about it which they did. It was an appropriate response given the circumstances.

red_elk seems to understand the situation better. It's a political response to a presumed, but very likely intrusion.

LOL...holy cats! This all started from a civilian with a cell phone picture of a submarine on the surface? That makes the whole thing even more hilarious.

What kind of secret mission do you think submarines perform on the surface? Kind of defeats the purpose of assigning the mission to a submarine, hey?

They're using it to intimidate the Muslims in Sweden, or something. Maybe it's part of the secret operation Gulf of Sheep.

7 pages in. Glad I could help an experienced naval officer on a little bit in this matter. I suppose you've abandoned your theory about it being on it's way to the Atlantic?! Keep reading and find out why it may have surfaced.
