Well, well, well. Everybody was expecting revolution to occur in Iran, and it has happened in F1 instead. If the CART / Indycar battle is any indication, a split certainly can't be very good for the sport.

I still bet FISA backs down and F1 will continue next year as usual. And Max thinks it will be FOTA who backs down, at least at this stage:

Max Mosley expects the Formula One world championship to begin as usual in March with the eight FOTA teams involved.

The FIA on Friday issued legal proceedings against Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, BMW Sauber, Toyota, Brawn GP, Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso following their announcement they are to start a breakaway series.

"It will all stop some time between the beginning of 2010 and March 2010 with the first race in Australia," said Mosley. "It will all settle down and everybody will go racing."

Remains to be seen whether this will actually go ahead, but I'll be honest and say that I'm all for the breakaway if the FOTA teams can pull something properly organized together. It's a shame it's come this far, but F1 has had too much of Spanky and the Money Troll's hair-brained schemes IMHO, a clean slate could be a good thing.

You may have spoken too soon. Sutil is third after the first practice at Silverstone. Is this the beginning of the end of the world as we know it?

He was right there all week. Too bad Barrichello qualified ahead of him or things may have turned out a bit differently. But the again, Vettel seemed to be in a world all his own so likely not.

Sam Posey had some interesting remarks about the team. He thought that before the season started, it was going to be either/or by the end of the year. Now he thinks its going to be both staying right where they are because they are working so well together. Vettel is the better qualifier while Webber tends to do better during the races.

The FIA has capitulated and agreed to become a vassal of FOTA.

Great news - all we need to do now is get rid of Bernie and we might end up with proper racing on proper tracks.

While empty seats have become normal at F1 tracks in China, Bahrain, Malaysia and Turkey, both the Canadian and French GP were dropped this season after organizers failed to meet Ecclestone's money demands.
Bernie is just branching out to find lucrative contracts in countries that don't have a motorsport culture and know nothing about organizing / promoting a GP.

And let's not forget the latest fiasco: The movement of the British GP from Sliverstone...

King Bernie is the real menace to F1, not Max Mosley. At least his motives weren't based on financial gain instead of what he thought was the general betterment of the sport.
