Dark Lord of The Sith
I am concerned where this game is leading us to. I suspect we have to resort to Diplomatic
It would appear we aren't doing that well overall. Missing out on the GL hurt us and our science is mediocre. What hurt us was the charter and limiting us in trading techs. Maybe we could still pump the heck out of our cities science wise, that's why I started building Universities, and once we get enough go for Oxford university and that will give us a major boost. Getting astronomy next will also allow us the observatory which is another boost to science. If we had some good food cities we could also put up several or more scientists. (that island city Ursa Minor is a candidate.) Libyan might be too and I remember there two food sources.
Now as I understand I can only be approached by non members so I can't go after them. Alas this adds to our dilemma. Usually (especially you Greyfox) will grab a new tech and go to everybody haggle and get the best deal. Monty is not a easy negotiator and I notice if you get close to them they quite often will only offer money/world/ham sandwich. They have techs but don't want to trade. ARGH!!!!!!
So we need to get Cardassians to join by sending many diplomats to them now we have the ability. Libyan good military center too so maybe "heroic epic" if that isn't built yet although Mars would be good too. We should also think about getting banks (enough) to hook up wall street and build that also in Earth with Oxford.
Of course this approach leaves us weak so we should tread carefully and get another member. It wouldn't hurt to try and get another priest for another shrine and spread that charter too. I find when I am tight in games spreading it can make a big difference. Cardassians are hooked into one religion and hope we can catch him not in theocracy.
Normally I would talk the "Star Trek" talk but we need to plan here and we are getting lost in the Star Trek and not really discussing detailed tactics.
Diplomatic??
How?? We are deadlast and two things are going to change that:
1. Get an army and starting kicking some hiney.
2. Science it up like Pamela Anderson you know whats......
If we can do put 5 scientists in the food cities and go nuts. Watch those numbers change from double digit to single for research.
We must do everything, and wish I had started Astronomy right there when I saw that island, to get settled there. It will be a great city one to be proud of. Two plains hills, horses, grass and another plain like this puppy will be good for production which we have very little of. I usually don't play this type of map but do notice that there is a lack of production tiles which hinders our progress. What to do with those food cities other than Great people for which we need the buildings or use the caste system.
Personally I love the caste system with food cities since it allows you to use all the specialist without the building. (not 100% sure but going by memory but noticed at some point I couldn't use a specialist so not sure about the dynamics.)
But for science we do need the buildings and they are very slow in building in those cities. So how does the AI do it?? Imo it's the Great people. Although the more reason to use the caste system and pump up the food cities. Pop Great people out as I don't think we've had very much so the points still should be low.
We can still get to the top here but diplomatic at this point doesn't seem possible. We do need to get bigger and we might want to take on somebody. Saladin probably is backwards and would be a good candidate but can't do much until we have galleons.
I just realized we are in 1725ad like wow man. We need to do something soon otherwise this game is going nowhere. I like science a lot and seeing to get back in the game but right now it appears to me we have to take a lot of land now.
I see how diplomatic might happen. If we build the UN and get some friends. So that means getting very close with every civ except the strongest one. We probably have Monty and maybe Peter too who knows with him. Cardassians could be persuaded and brought to our line of thinking. Saladin he's hopeless so let's get the Cardassians to war against him, as well as we and get some new land.
Three members might give us that victory and we could rise in the standings going after Saladin. That's if we get the UN which we should decide now so I will summarize:
1. Domination win?? feasible
2. Diplomatic very much dependent on getting Mass media and building UN
3. Space victory/ Science it up but we haven't got astronomy yet.
One last idea too is we could once we get to mass media go for fibre optics and try for the Internet to get all those techs we don't have. Problem there is we just don't have the production and very much reliant on aluminium so that needs to be there as well. Ideally I like to see a city for space 150 hammers plus. We don't have much green space otherwise we could use workshops but still could on plains but less. What makes me worried is we don't even have chemistry yet. (at least I don't think so but I could be wrong)
I am just not used to being at this level of science on Monarch. Usually by now (I do science it up a lot) have at least rifles/frigates and working on or have steam power/democracy. It really depends on your start location too and ours was good but I do remember in the beginning we really didn't expand very much.
If I count we have 7 cities now and Yeka needs a lot of culture. That too is low considering we just acquired two of them. With another settlement on the island it will make big difference but I think we need more.
So captain Greyfox we need to act soon whether with a stick or a calculator.
