Fox-04 -- The Prime Directive

I am concerned where this game is leading us to. I suspect we have to resort to Diplomatic

It would appear we aren't doing that well overall. Missing out on the GL hurt us and our science is mediocre. What hurt us was the charter and limiting us in trading techs. Maybe we could still pump the heck out of our cities science wise, that's why I started building Universities, and once we get enough go for Oxford university and that will give us a major boost. Getting astronomy next will also allow us the observatory which is another boost to science. If we had some good food cities we could also put up several or more scientists. (that island city Ursa Minor is a candidate.) Libyan might be too and I remember there two food sources.

Now as I understand I can only be approached by non members so I can't go after them. Alas this adds to our dilemma. Usually (especially you Greyfox) will grab a new tech and go to everybody haggle and get the best deal. Monty is not a easy negotiator and I notice if you get close to them they quite often will only offer money/world/ham sandwich. They have techs but don't want to trade. ARGH!!!!!!

So we need to get Cardassians to join by sending many diplomats to them now we have the ability. Libyan good military center too so maybe "heroic epic" if that isn't built yet although Mars would be good too. We should also think about getting banks (enough) to hook up wall street and build that also in Earth with Oxford.

Of course this approach leaves us weak so we should tread carefully and get another member. It wouldn't hurt to try and get another priest for another shrine and spread that charter too. I find when I am tight in games spreading it can make a big difference. Cardassians are hooked into one religion and hope we can catch him not in theocracy.

Normally I would talk the "Star Trek" talk but we need to plan here and we are getting lost in the Star Trek and not really discussing detailed tactics.

Diplomatic??

How?? We are deadlast and two things are going to change that:

1. Get an army and starting kicking some hiney.

2. Science it up like Pamela Anderson you know whats......
If we can do put 5 scientists in the food cities and go nuts. Watch those numbers change from double digit to single for research.

We must do everything, and wish I had started Astronomy right there when I saw that island, to get settled there. It will be a great city one to be proud of. Two plains hills, horses, grass and another plain like this puppy will be good for production which we have very little of. I usually don't play this type of map but do notice that there is a lack of production tiles which hinders our progress. What to do with those food cities other than Great people for which we need the buildings or use the caste system.

Personally I love the caste system with food cities since it allows you to use all the specialist without the building. (not 100% sure but going by memory but noticed at some point I couldn't use a specialist so not sure about the dynamics.)

But for science we do need the buildings and they are very slow in building in those cities. So how does the AI do it?? Imo it's the Great people. Although the more reason to use the caste system and pump up the food cities. Pop Great people out as I don't think we've had very much so the points still should be low.

We can still get to the top here but diplomatic at this point doesn't seem possible. We do need to get bigger and we might want to take on somebody. Saladin probably is backwards and would be a good candidate but can't do much until we have galleons.

I just realized we are in 1725ad like wow man. We need to do something soon otherwise this game is going nowhere. I like science a lot and seeing to get back in the game but right now it appears to me we have to take a lot of land now.

I see how diplomatic might happen. If we build the UN and get some friends. So that means getting very close with every civ except the strongest one. We probably have Monty and maybe Peter too who knows with him. Cardassians could be persuaded and brought to our line of thinking. Saladin he's hopeless so let's get the Cardassians to war against him, as well as we and get some new land.

Three members might give us that victory and we could rise in the standings going after Saladin. That's if we get the UN which we should decide now so I will summarize:

1. Domination win?? feasible
2. Diplomatic very much dependent on getting Mass media and building UN
3. Space victory/ Science it up but we haven't got astronomy yet.

One last idea too is we could once we get to mass media go for fibre optics and try for the Internet to get all those techs we don't have. Problem there is we just don't have the production and very much reliant on aluminium so that needs to be there as well. Ideally I like to see a city for space 150 hammers plus. We don't have much green space otherwise we could use workshops but still could on plains but less. What makes me worried is we don't even have chemistry yet. (at least I don't think so but I could be wrong)

I am just not used to being at this level of science on Monarch. Usually by now (I do science it up a lot) have at least rifles/frigates and working on or have steam power/democracy. It really depends on your start location too and ours was good but I do remember in the beginning we really didn't expand very much.

If I count we have 7 cities now and Yeka needs a lot of culture. That too is low considering we just acquired two of them. With another settlement on the island it will make big difference but I think we need more.

So captain Greyfox we need to act soon whether with a stick or a calculator.

 ...

pretty good analysis there, tactical officer. I agree on taking on Saladin ... I doubt the klingons would declare again, and we are now in desperate need for land ...

good thing abt being spiritual is we caqn switch civics anytime we want ... so switching to pacifism for GP and caste system for specialists is viable.

Got it.

Another option to consider is going down the alliances route. Monty in particular seems fairly strong. If we could pull off a PA with Monty & Pete then domination :D looks more feasible.

Frankly I suspect Sally is more likely than not to declare war against us anyway.

I didn't know the PA was enabled. Not my favorite type of win but yet a win none the less. Ergo Greyfox considering diplomatic victory. Hey that's cheating we supposed to fight our way out. LOL

Hmmmm. I must admit I just assumed it was enabled. However I've just checked the game settings and it doesn't show as enabled. :( Ok, scrub that idea then.

Does defensive pacts have to be specifically enabled as well?

No they don't you just need Military tradition...

I did not turn on PA, but no, DP don't need to be turned on (its enabled all the time once you get the relevant tech, not too sure which, MT or Communism or Facism).

Playing now. I see some barb cities to the south of MOnty, and we have some catapults and troops fortifying on desert tiles ???? I ma going to send them there, take the barb city, and declare on Sally.

Ensign Nog's Personal Log

Well, being the only Ferengi Ensign in StarFleet has its advantages and disadvantages. Captain Sisko and Lit. Dax has been nice to me alright, so has Chief O'Brien. Others? Well, no way those hu-man would ever allow me to take command of a vessel ... now this is my chance!!!

All of the officers in command position are summoned to Sector 001 for discussion on how to resolve the latest Romulan agression, and I am temporary put in charge! Yay!!!

And what do Ido???

What I do best, of-course! Sail the Great River of Materials, my Uncle Quark has taught me well in this regard.

First, I upped the selling price of our dye to the Vulcans from 7bar to 8bars. Next, the Cardassian:

fox04-AD1725-alex-trade.jpg

8 bards of gold pressed latinium ... I would never miss that.

What? What prime directive? Rule #218 of the Book of Acquisition: "To Hell With The Prime Directive When there is an Opportunity to Trade".

But those hu-man does not understand the Book of Acquisition ... hmm, let me create a diversion ... I'll set up an Outpost to mask my trade.

fox04-AD1730-outpost32.jpg

Ok, I'd better stick to the Prime Directive from now on, else, Star Fleet is going to lose the first and only Ferengi officer, and we can't let that happen, right? Think about that, I am as unique and special as Commander Data and Lieutenant Worf. The only Klingon, the only Andriod, and me, the only Ferengi.

More trades:

fox04-AD1735-peter.jpg

fox04-AD1760-alex.jpg

and I swear this time it is the Cardasian who approached me and initiated the trade, not me!!! I swear by all my assets and my uncle's bar and the grand nagus' walking stick and my moogie's clothes (although she is not ferengi), I abide by the Directive!!!

Then, the Romulan ask for aid ...

fox04-AD1740-sally.jpg

Ha! Very funny, mister. Typical romulan treachery ...

Instead, I shall aid our Federation member:

Notes:

- thus far there had been no Romulan incursion ... but continue to build up caravels to intercept their warbirds.

- I go for chemistry instead of astronomy, I hope this will give us some trade, perhaps even buying the Cardassians into battle with us.

- A bank will be completed in Earth next turn, it is going to be huge, bring us an extra 8gpt. Perhaps even enough for us to go to 80% research.

- I have spread the charter finally throughout all of StarFleet. Next, we shall concentrate on spreading it to the Cardassians.

- we have 3 NX-class ships carrying troops heading towards the Breen terriority. I hope that is enough.

- The stats:

Suggest the next player to start building up military once chemistry is in. We must deter alex from declaring on us.

That Romulan thing made me chuckle.....

NamliaM you aren't up good buddy you are on deck. Ruff_Hi is up as stated at the end of greyfox's report. You did that last time too. Boy married life must be keeping you distracted. (sheeesh newlyweds)

Yes me playing a joke for one time ;)

hic - what, you cannot get drunk from synthahol? Fat lot the egg-heads know. Hmmm, my turn in the big comfy chair - push off picard ... let me show you how it is done ...

(falls down, tries to get up, crawls to command chair, rests for a bit, then ...)

Full Name:
Reginald Endicott Barclay III
Current Rank:
Lieutenant

Computer ... run Barclay Command Session Alpha-7 ...

the bridge of the enterprise materializes around Reg after he issues the above order

Acting Captains Log: This is Lieutenant Reginal Barclay, currently acting Captain of the Enterprise while the rest of the crew recovers from a quick visit to Riza.

Barclay: Communications, contact the English and sell them our excess cow for 8 gold ... next, contact the Aztec's and trade them Chemistry for Divine Right and 570 gold and while you are at it, sell Chemistry to the Creek for Economics and 130 gold. Then ... um, yes, buy Printing Press from the Russians for Chemistry and 280 gold.

Communication ensign Seko looks at Barclay with a very perplexed look ... she then consults the translation computer and finds that he has just issued very consist orders that (apparently) make a lot of sense

Helm, come about and make all haste to The barbarian wild lands that have just been discovered ... see the main viewer for co-ordinates ...

fox040004zg0.jpg

No 1 - take a security team (or two), suitable shuttles and go and help liberate these backward swine ...

Riker raises his eyebrows, then shrugs and leaves the bridge

Barclay: Communications - a further trade order ... buy Nationalism from the Aztecs for Liberalism and Printing Press. I understand that we should also be able to get Astronomy from the Greeks too.

Pikard enters the bridge ... stops ... looks at Barclay, Data, Councellor Troi, back at Barclay and ...

Picard: Reg, are you currently the officer of the watch?

Barclay: Bridge to Dr Crusher, I thought you said that Captain Picard had been consigned to quarters with a post-dietry ocular quark infarshion?

Picard: Lieutenant BARCLAY!

Barclay: Computer, freeze program ...

nothing happens

Barclay: ummm, computer, freeze program, errr, ahhh,

more raised eyebrows from the bridge crew

Barclay: errr ... is this the real bridge or is it holodeck C?

Picard: The Bridge!

Data: What was the cause of Reg acting that way?

Riker: Apparently Wesley Crusher had found Reg's command holo-program and had changed it so that next time Reg started the program, he was transported directly to the bridge ... I bet Deanna had to clear her next week just for Reg ...

The Latest Holoprogram

Points to note ...

  • that barbarian city has the pyramids - how?
  • we got a great scientist - I just let him be ... didn't even look to see what tech he would give us
  • we currently have 4 cats, 1 crossbow and 1 musket down at the barb city ... defense has been bombarded to zero
  • more troops are on galleys making their way there

Good story, ruff. Barclay is one of the not-your-typical-starfleet officer introduced later in the series to spice things up. Like it. DOn't think he and Crusher were ever together though .... ;)

 Breen has the Pyramids??? How could it be? Either monty built it, and lost it to the barbs (I thought barbs always razes city?), or there is a graphics glitch... I thought barbs are not allowed to built wonders.

GS: An academy or a tech. Given its already 1810AD, a tech woud be better.

namliaM is UP.

I've seen the Breen with colossus but first time I ever seen pyramids.

GreyFox said:

Are you saying that Barclay and W Crusher were not in an episode together? Don't you remember the episode where Wesley was calling him "broccoli" and at the end of the show, Picard did too!
