Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

According to the FAQ (subject: "email notification"), it seems that you subscribe to a thread when you create it or reply to it. Then, unless you do something to stop them, you get email notifications if people respond to those threads. My question is, is "thread subscription" good for anything else?

It would be mighty convenient if I could mark a thread as being especially interesting to me, and then these threads could appear at the top of my list every time I visit Civ Fanatics. That's sort of how it works in usenet-at-large, when you subscribe to a newsgroup (details depend on your newsreading program). Is there anything like that in CivFanatics?

Ayatollah So: the o0nly way is to set all threads that interest you to notification = on, all others to off.....

you can un-subscribe to threads in the user cp (top butons on each screen). Also, you can un-subscribe by using the link in the mail. You can subscribe by clicking the subscribe link in the thread (so you do NOT have to answer to it)......

Much obliged! [/B][/QUOTE]

Lt. K knows ALL - I learn more each time I read his threads :goodjob:

- but re: your ? about MMOW - how about massive or much movement of workers. Having played a Chieftain TD game - we had to record every movement of the workers (exhausting to do but really helped my game - in fact I always do it now) - But in a Sulla/ Padma SG now there is less requirement to record workers so we do say something to the effect of MMOW. I still record it all but am trying to learn - others don't have to - hope that helps. :)

It's not a scenario. It is just the units for a scenario. Someone has to make the scenario. Same goes for the feudal Japan and prehistoric folders. They did provide a Dinobarbs scenario, but it only uses 2 of the dino units.

They said great scenarios!!! they give us the units but any scenario, what does it give to make a scenario if you cannot set the diplo cause Hitler will make peace with France and USSR in the first turn!!!!!

So far I haven`t heard of any single player issues, editor or LAN/PBEM/Hotseat issues so right now we`re focused on internet performance....

Is he stupid??? Hey man you forgot the scenarios !!!!!!!! thats what maintained Civ 2 playable for 5 years! without scenarios Civ 2 would have been popular for 1-2 years max!!! ostie de tarla

Upgrading all my units is a pain in the ***!

You may want to add:

Air units require Airports.

On the Great Leader, Thunderfall has said that the new King units in PtW can also generate a Great Leader as well. You may want to put a warning that if the King unit is killed instead, the game may be over, though; depending on whether Regicide or Mass Regicide is enabled.

I can help with some of the PtW FAQ if you need it; I have been playing it extensively recently.

kring: thanx a lot! since I do NOT have PTW yet I have to rely on what I find in the forum...... I'd be very gratefull if you'd simply add things into your last post as you find them out. Sadly, I cannot let you enter stuf directly into the FAQ posts since this is made impossible by the way the board works :(

MMOW

thank you, Mcdan.

I had found it out in between too, in fact from the same source. I was watching your ct training game, and padma explained it in there.

meant to post it but you beat me to it, Mcdan ;)

Nethog: :goodjob:

In the PTW units the upgrade lines (with cost of upgrades) are very useful.

I have a question. I'm playing a huge map. My civ is a democracy, but I have lots of wars to fight. In my last game, it wasn't such a problem, but the wars are a little longer now. The question: if I sign peace, the war weariness is gone, but if I go to war 2 turns later with another civ, is that ok? So does signing peace refresh your people completely?

War weariness is calculated separately for each opponent. If you are at war with Civ A for 30 turns and then make peace and immediately go to war with Civ B, you start fresh with war weariness.

I am not sure how long it takes before your weariness with A will completely go away. 20 turns seems to make sense and is a number I've seen used before, but nobody (that I can tell) is 100% certain of this number and how exactly it drops over time.

According to Firaxis in one of the numerous chats they have held, war weariness is cumulative and accumulates during any war; it only rears it ugly head under Republic and Democracy, though. It does lessen, but again no one has said how long it takes. It may start fresh with a new war in terms of how long it takes to start.

It is cumulative, as I understand it, if you're in more than one war at the same time. If, for example, I'm at war with Persia and England and my war weariness level is at a 2 with Persia and a 5 with England (no clue on the numbers), my overall war weariness is 7.

If I make peace with Persia, the effective weariness drops to 5, though. At least, that's the best I've seen it explained that matches any in-game experience.

The war weariness with Persia is still there, it's just not effective and not affecting my citizens, as I understand it. It's latent, for lack of a better word.

Continuing the example, if 2 turns later, I declare war on Persia again, my cumulative war weariness will probably jump to 8 or 9, as the 2 latent weariness from Persia is still there and returns to effect. Add 1 or 2 for declaring.

P.S. I repeat, all numbers are purely for example purposes! I have no idea how weariness is stored and at what threshholds it starts affecting the people.

Several posters have reported that they think in PTW the AI can trade communications without discovering writing. Does anybody know?

I found the answer. The difference is that firaxis fixed the bug that prevented the AIs from trading the contact with a human civ.
