Because they're generally non-discussion threads, and that's the only terms under which we'll allow them.

Do you guys have a system in place to try to filter out bots? Such as one of those "human verification" tests where it shows you distorted letters in an image?

Yes, we do, when registering. Unfortunately, dedicated spammers can work around them without too much trouble.

Captchas have been beatable for years.

One way: Hire a bunch of "off-shore" workers to create accounts on websites, and have them submit the lists of completed/registered accounts to a database that the bots use to do their spamming.

Didn't know that! Does it still require a poorly paid human, or can code actually read that stuff.. sometimes I struggle myself!?
