Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

It should be possible to make an indefinite poll, since all you'd need to do would be to not set a closing date/time.

But for making the question and options change over time, you would need to speak very nicely to the moderators, unless editing polls is something the OP can do? :dunno:
That was exactly my question, I don't know if it is something that can be done in current forum version. I can't also just try it out. Basically I am exploring an option of having a "senate" interface for a forum game.

Or so it would seem to me, based on my experience with making polls on various types of forums. The old UBB sites were actually the easiest, since they allowed for multiple questions in the same poll - extremely useful for when I first started running Iron Pen competitions on an RPG forum 15 years ago.
I still miss the coloured palette of the answers from back then :smug: I never participated in fast writing competition, but it must have been interesting to organise. NESing, well, thats a different story. It can even be described as anti-fast writing ;)

Can one make a poll in a new thread that would run indefinitely? With changeable question and poll options?
As far as I know, a staff member would need to edit out the original data and make the changes you wish for the new poll.

Thank you, I just tried to modify a poll I made long before the move and it didn't give me any options at all. Even though I can allow users to change their votes the rest will have to be done by a mod. So, no, but it was a nice idea for a second :)

Will I get a notice if on ignore?
Do you mean an email notice or alert from or about someone who has you on ignore? Or do you mean would you get a notice that someone has put you on ignore?

The answer to the second question is no. Usually you can begin to suspect it if the person no longer replies to your comments. It's more obvious if you try to PM the person and find that the system has blocked you from doing so (although some people prefer not to receive PMs from anyone, and have blocked all PMs other than from staff; they may not actually have you on ignore).

I'm curious the first question, but from the other side. I noticed that putting someone on ignore works as it should on the forum, but if someone else quotes that person, the quoted material that I can't see here is still visible in the email notification of that post.

Have some smilies accidentally kept their christmas hats? ;)

No, shouldn't. If you see some with Santa's head, then it's probably a caching issue in your browser, and emptying the cache should solve that.
Or just enjoy them with hat :D.
So I have not shift refreshed for a month or something? Oh well :D

This is not possible.
Yeah, it is. It makes everything more cheerful.

Some types of forums have multiple smiley sets, so you can toggle which style you like in your preferences. If we had that here, whoever likes the Christmas smileys could have them all the time and anyone who doesn't like them would never have to see them.

Snow hats? In summer? Cheerful? :faint:

Canada has had snow in July, some years. Mostly in the high-altitude mountain parks, but I've seen it. In the past few years, the first snow of the year has been in August, up in the mountains. It's handy if there happens to be a forest fire that needs putting out.

Besides, it's still winter here. We've been in a cold snap, with extreme weather warnings. It's been snowing for most of the past week, and everything has been grey outside. When I can hardly see the trees not far from the building here, a red toque or Santa hat would be a nice change from all the grey.

Are there any chances of implementing that here also? Personally I hate that winter theme

The only forum types I know of that allow choosing smiley sets as a normal feature are Simple Machines and ProBoards.

I've never seen the ACP of a XenForo forum, so I can't answer that.

When you say "winter theme" do you mean the Christmas smileys or an actual theme (used to be referred to as skin)?

When CFC was vBulletin I remember there being a Christmas skin... OMG, that was an eye-hurting mess!

If you really wanted to I am sure you could implement this locally, by saving your prefered smilie set and putting entrie(s) in you iptables.

Guys, this is a matter of taste, which doesn't affect anyone right now.
You sure you want to discuss this ^^?
Someone asked a question, which I attempted to answer. Someone else mentioned something unfamiliar to me. I'd like an answer to it.

Nobody is arguing, just commenting on some technical stuff about forums. I don't see the problem, unless you think we should do it in a different thread.
