The report bad post function.
It's happened a few times now that I've reported a bad post - a definately bad post - and an aprropriate mod has been online, maybe closed an other thread yet done nothing about this one.
It usually gets dealt with eventually, but often a lot later, by another mod.
Most often happens at weekends.
Before you get upset about me PDMA ... the question is:
When I see this happen, a mod ignoring a report, should I report the post again or just leave it be?
Would it be possible to get a note via pm, if the mod disagrees with the complaint? Would it be appropriate to ask for such a thing in the report itself?

Matilda - That's not really PDMA. PDMA is about a specific action by a specific mod. I think your question is general enough.
Allow me to try and answer it.
We do have a set of rule, however we all interpret the rules differently. We also have different opinions and viewpoints where we see issues seperately than the other mods. In OT, it's especially evident. That's just the nature of OT. Opinion's vary. So the mod you see online might very well agree with the post you reported, and the mod that ends up dealing with it may agree with your point of view vis a vis the post in question.
I would say that if this is a distictive pattern, I would PM the moderator that you think is not handling it and ask them why. There could be plenty of reasons. Reasons that have nothing to do with whether or not you agree with the post. First and foremost, they could be offline. Sure, it says they're online, but keep in mind that it takes fifteen minutes for me to walk away from the forums (close out the windows with CFC open) before it shows them as offline. So sure, they may appear online, but they may not be. Also, we get Emails, not PMs regarding reported posts. It could very well be that the mod doesn't have the email website/program open at the time the reported post is sent out.
Now, of course, there's gonna be times where they are online, and stay online, and they have their email open. In that case, it could be that they just don't see a reason to moderate a post. Like I said, opinions vary.

So the email notification would have gone to all the mods of that area?
If you'd come to your computer say having been away for 24 hours and had recieved 7 notifications, would you just check if the last one had been dealt with and then presume they all had, or would you check all of them?
And still, would it be possible to get replies to the emails, in case of not agreeing to the report? Just so that I'd know that it's been dealt with.

And Fifty got in trouble for that, too.
When a mod edits a post, it puts their name at the bottom of the post. So if you see that you can PM that mod. But if a thread is closed and there's no mod action, I would PM one, maybe two, mods to see what's going on. We can see who closed it. FWIW, when I get home from work, and log back in to CFC, I check the Staff forum first. Then I check my email for reported posts, going from most recent backwards. Once I start recognizing them ("Turner handled that; Chieftess did that one...") I just skim them quickly for ones I don't remember seeing as handled. I do it this way because I expect that older ones were handled, and I can thus get a jump on current, unhandled problems.
An excellent question, Matilda, and one I've wondered myself. There was a post several months ago that I reported twice and nothing was ever done. I even asked in my second 'report' to by contacted if it was felt the post wasn't that bad. I never received any word what so ever. This turned me off of reporting anyone unless it was totally obvious that it was a bad post, rather than just questionable.
A suggestion (or request) that if the individual asks for a mod reply can they do it? I realize this is more work for the mods, but as I already mentioned, I don't bother reporting posts anymore except on very rare occaisions.

It is a fine line between an honest question and PDMA, I know.
Like I said, if you've reported a post and felt that it should have been acted on, I would PM one of the moderators of that forum and ask if they can tell you.
