Frequently Asked Questions

Modify the properties on the short to the actual place you have Civ4 installed.

I cant right click on the shortcut or explorer bugs out and stops responding.

Can someone check exactly what the target and run in lines should read for a proper shortcut?

Sounds like your computer itself may have a problem Double. The alternative is to just right click on your desktop, select to create a new shortcut and set the file path as:

"C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\Fall from Heaven 2 025

Or whatever it is for your file instalation path. If you want a pretty Icon, just choose to customize Icon and browse the Civilization folder for one you would like to use.

I am very new here. I downloaded this mod a few days ago after getting hooked on the Age of Ice scenario that came with BTS. All I have to say is just wow, this is probably the best mod I have ever played for any game hands down. It's like a whole new expansion for civ. Keep up the good work guys!

I did have a question though. I've only messed with the Calibim and Sheaim so far so forgive my ignorance. I am still digging through all these posts for info.

Is the info in the FFH Wiki completely up to date with what is implemented in the game? For instance, when starting on the civ selection screen I was going to try out the Hippus or Brennor. I moused over the Hippus and it lists them as having no unique units but the wiki says they have a bunch. Same with the Brennor, wiki lists a bunch but the game only lists a phalanx. So I ended up selecting the evil guys instead ;)

Also playing with the Calibim the wiki says a raven replaces a hawk but I built a hawk.

Just wanted to clarify it's implemented, I know this is still a public beta atm and look forward to the next stages of the releases. I am totally addicted to this mod now. Running .25K with the music/ani pack btw.

hi.
glad you like the mod ;)

the wiki is not up to date as far as I know.
I think what the wiki lists as "unique" units, is due to the old (pre BtS) system of how we implemented different art for different units with otherwise the same stats.
So, a bannor warrior simply looks different than a sheaim warrior does.
But to make this happen, we had to make both unique units, so we could define a new graphic for them. They were still warriors -gamplay wise, but with a unique graphic.
Now with BtS, its easier to define civ specific graphics and if the unit uses the same stats like the original class (warrior, axeman, knight, etc.) used, and only the graphic is different for purely artistically reason ;), then BtS doesnt list it as different, but simply shows it when a civ builds this class of unit. Like bannors creating a warrior will look different from a Sheaim warrior. but they both have same stats.

hope that helps.
P.S: unique units are not everything, Civs are balanced (or designed) as a whole against each other.

Also, some civs will gain unique units through buildings or traits to be equivalent to the old system. i.e., Hippus stables add a promotion giving extra movement and withdrawl, a simpler system than giving them 8 different UUs for the same effect.

I have a kind of dumb question. What gives the chance of a great engineer spawning?

I've played 5 different games all the way through and have yet to see one pop up. I've gotten all the other great types to spawn no problem though...I think merchant was the most rare with only one popping up.

I've had success rushing to found Runes of Kilmorph and then getting a Great Prophet (easy when I am playing as Einion Logos) and building the Tablets of Bambur. That city, usually my second where ROK is founded, churns out the Great Engineers while my capital (where I build the Altars) churns out the Great Prophets.

It can be a real challenge founding ROK if dwarven civs are in your game, but it is doable if you get some help from goodie hut exploration.

It iis easier if instead of just clicking straight on the runes of kilmorph tech to auto research it (same goes for fellowphip of leaves) instead go for mysticisim first so you can get elder councils. the AI usually goes for the mining tech first and dosnt get the extra research points from mysticism

obviously, this depends on the situation. If you've got wine and/or gems/gold/silver within your city radius, it can often be usefull to go for those techs first.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times but I can't seem to find it. Where is Auric Ulvin's leaderhead from?

I track everything by the artists, its a painting from Justin Sweet. I would guess its from Icewind Dale II.

Thank you, it's my favorite leaderhead and it happens to be for my favorite civilization. Now I just have to patiently wait for the mod team to finish the Illians. :)

are you interested in event ideas? will there be a "Designe:Events" thread soon/when shadow comes out?

I'd like to propose that the first post get a minor edit. Remove the first question about if we will have an update to work with Warlords, as the game no longer works at all with Vanilla only, and nobody would think to consider "upgrading" to work with an old expansion :)

And also, I would request that the question of "How do I launch the game" be the first one on the list, as if someone has that question, it is the first and only thing to come up (and it seems to get the most new topics)

I was going to aska question, then I found out that my game was only older instead of the new one which is under 2kgames then firaxis. lets try it out now. I love the scenario tho.
.....
.. Okay.. Here's an edit
