OMG-had civ 4 for a few day and of course playing 20+hrs straight at a time (on holidays :P)-neway i love cultural games but im always leading and some bleep comes and smacks me around. I nvr had this problem in civ 3. R the civs more aggro in 4?
i always play default standard-temperate-normal with pangaea and i go frederick (german). i dont want to change game options cos i like the challenge. just wondered if neone else finds cultural victory hard. I nvr see it in HoF games etc so im guessing its not so ez or maybe im just too noob at it. Ne hints or strats would be valuable cos im totally noob still. :)

Btw totally off-topic but i applied for new pw and just left it to cut and paste from my email. Reminded me of friend who play int cafes all the time on mmos and said he always cuts and pastes pw from emails cos it beats the key loggers :P

I think cultural victories are boring - that doesn't mean they are, just that I think they are - but not particularly challenging. The only challenging part is making sure the AI doesn't smack you around, and that means building and maintaining a solid military and/or playing the diplomatic game very well.

I've only ever had on cultural victory, at a very low difficulty (I think it was Warlord, might have been Chieftan even) in Warlords, so it was pretty easy. I've been meaning to try it on a more challenging level.

If you're getting attacked by AI opponents, it's because your military is too small. Build it up, or find some friends to defend you.
I was playing yesterday and had THREE Civs declare war on me on the same turn... what made it odd was that none were allies of each other, and none were vassals of each other... three random/unallied/non-vassaled civs all declaring war on me at the exact same moment? That was really weird.

Needless to say, I have a big military NOW.

Weird, unless one of them had the Apostolic Palace and the other two were members. Then the "Pope" declares jihad on your infidel a** and they all come a-knockin'.

No... I still can't explain it... only one of the three brought-on a significant show of force against me... I got two of my neighbors to declare war on that same guy... eventually was able to defeat all the invaders, but the guy who attacked me was so far away, and I had plans on one of my neighbors, I let him off the hook (and once the six-nation war was over [my 3 vs his 3] I declared war on my ally who was just too much of a long-term threat).

Still... weird how three non-allied nations all declared war on me at the same time. Never seen that before.

Winning a cultural victory is very satisfying. I did it three times on Noble and enjoyed the victory every time. I should probably try it on Prince.

There's so many different things you have to do as opposed to any of the other means of winning. Reasearch paths really change as do building priorities. It's fun once you zero in on your three cities and start making those purple bars climb. Just not as much action as a war-type win. Having good relations is essential in the end when you decide to crank up the culture slider.

Some Leaders are more difficult to play because of their Traits then others. If you played Bismark you may be suprised on how different the game will play. I have been playing Greeks, and I know for a fact that if I play Alexander, instead of Percicles (I think) the game acts differently and it became harder because of the Leader you picked to play as in the game.
