^^Thanks :) :lol:

I don't think Skyrim is as disastrous as civ 5. It plays a lot like Morrowind with better graphics and a lot less annoying character progress system (aka can I level my Enchantment sjill by 1 or will that have a negative effect on the overall progress of my character in Morrowind), and without the annoying endless trips through the wilderness and the oblivion which made me quit Oblivion after a few days play. It still has fairly straightforward quests and farmable skills which characterize the whole series, but overall Skyrim is a better game than Oblivion IMO which obviously cannot be said about Civ 5. (I'd have to think hard to say anything nice about civ 5...)

Ok LM, wanna explain that one? I've never had that happen in all the years i've been playing BTS.

I can do that :
First you need Christianity (important)
If you then rename one of your GG to Richard Lionheart, then join him with knights.
Then you make a HUUUUGE SOD of knights/trebs/pikemen (I think its around 40+ units) and ship them to the civ that founded Islam.
After u pillage 90 tiles you have succeded the quest. If you manage to keep Jerusalem there is an extra bonus, though if it is Saladin that founded Islam, this is almost impossible....

I couldn't have said it better myself. At least someone got it. :lol:

@Vincentz: I think Damerell was referring to the fact that he could have settled the little island for a bonus trade route instead of his city being culture pressed severely in the middle of the desert.

Assuming he has galleys, yes. Or he could have settled somewhere down his peninsula - we don't know how far down that stretches yet, but Toku's got the south portion of that continent and has been plunking more than a few cities in there. Not too worried, since we're winning the culture press across the front, even against non-joke cities; we're in a Judaism love-fest, but also we just secured a source of heffalumps, so if (when?) Toku does decide fighting's better than us stealing all his cities, we should have the unit advantage.

^^Just don't leave them too long in the snow... look what happened to Monty's heffalump in Doshin's game :)

It's OK. I'm pretty sure we have sheepies too; we'll knit them all wooly underthings.

Ooh, that's surely going to take lots of worker turns...

Their effectiveness is vastly increased if you can also acquire a source of woozles.

I do agree, and we tried tracking down some woozles with this idea in mind... but they proved mysteriously elusive, for all that their footprints were clear.

They're known to set false tracks.

My strategy however involves scouting for croutons instead of those elusive woozles ;) At early game they give a nice synergy when playing Rome - You can make salad even when You play as Augustus running Representation Civic. Salad is tradeable for ~15 Gpt :D

Interesting that Oblivion and Civ4 are both the 4th in their series and that very similar complaints are being made by the respective fanbases about the 5th games in both series. One common factor, of course, is the rise of the console market affecting old-established PC game franchises. Though - and I haven't played it yet - I get the feeling that Skyrim isn't anywhere near as disastrous as Civ5.

Having said that, I'm happy to play straight BtS with just BAT/BUG, though I do like the odd modded game. On the other hand, no way can I imagine playing vanilla TES4 without heaps and heaps of mods, IMO you can't turn the clock back once you've gone that route with Oblivion.

Actually from what I've seen most people prefer either Morrowind or Skyrim the 3rd and 5th games in the series.
Oblivion though good is highly panned because of its obtuse leveling system (especially in relation to the enemies) and graphics especially those on character models. The only thing Oblivion has thus far done better is its DLC. But if the rumors are to be believed about Skyrim's upcoming DLC then possibly Oblivion would lose even that top honor.

Finally Skyrim is a very good game and IMO only the 2nd game in TES series I'll be playing for years (along with Morrowind).

So, basically, Elder Scrolls is the opposite of Civilization?

In this context, most definitely :D Oblivion is a fairly weak member of the group. Morrowind and Skyrim certainly have their unique charms while I don't really find too many charming things in Civ 5's "improved" game mechanics. Besides, it has an annoying graphic engine that keeps lagging on my PC, while the graphic itself hasn't improved that much. Skyrim OTOH runs fluidly and plays like a movie. The only problem they share is Steam.

So, basically:

Morrowind = Civ2
Oblivion = Civ3
Skyrim = Civ4

I have seen pretty badass signature somewhere here that says : "Steam eats player's souls" :lol: And that signature is so right :D No to mention that "Blizzard Entertainment HQ" is build on a mountain made of money and human souls :lol: but that's another OT :mischief:

Right! Now I have to go get Skyrim because I can't comment further without playing it. Bah, thanks for that. ;)

Earlier comments, by the way, were just to report what some of the (mostly Oblivion) fanbase have said about Skyrim. I've seen the same accusations of unnecessary streamlining and railroading the player that we've seen WRT Civ5, so I felt there might be an analogy. In the case of Civ5, these are true IMO. But I should make up my own mind about TES5...

I didn't feel any railroading. You can go wherever you want on the map and do whatever you want as usual. Maybe those Oblivion fans never got through the tutorial part? :confused:

Morrowind = Civ2
Oblivion = Civ3
Skyrim = Civ4

Well I'd say its more like....

Morrowind = Civ 3
Oblivion = Civ 5
Skyrim = Civ 4

I actually like Civ 3 after all and still go back to play it from time to time. Hell it definitely has the superior scenarios to 4.
