I still maintain that this defies all logic. How can a weak little nation, with no way of defending itself, possibly generate such a despicable reputation that it somehow bleeds over into yours? I mean, unless they REALLY want to finish them off that badly...

That's a bad argument against it, many things in Civ defy realism and logic. You can say, however, that it's bad for the gameplay.

Vassal reputations bleeding over to yours should not be Civ5.

The thing is that there are hidden modifiers to that. You can see the, say, -3 for vassals, but his real attitude is nowhere to be found in the UI.

Yes, but the hidden modifiers are taken into account for the visible attitude level. If he's Friendly toward you, his total hidden attitude can't be less than, say, 10 (I forget the exact number).

Let's say that WK was friendly with Bei1052 but annoyed with JC. His real attitude toward Bei1052 would be cautious.

What I'm getting at is that when you average several values, the average cannot be greater than the maximum value. That means the average must be greater than or equal to the minimum. If the WE is typically the person that the AI likes the least (the minimum value), how could the master be picked as the WE?

Of course, the WE tends to bounce around between the most hated rivals, but that's usually due to the others getting the -4 "You have traded with our worst enemy" modifier.

It would be nice if their real attitude was displayed somewhere on BUG...

I started a discussion about how to display this a few days ago in the Feature Request thread.

Hey, I'm just a neutral observer here.

Don't you mean cautious? :mischief:

Vassal reputations bleeding over to yours should not be Civ5.

I disagree. If I like you but you agree to protect my mortal enemy, I'm going to like you a lot less. If I am neutral toward you and you start protecting my best friend, I'm going to like you more.

Funny, it's exactly the same situation that JujuLautre encountered some time ago and even Wang Kon is the leader showing these seemingly contradicting attitudes again.

An AI's TEAM attitude towards a master is the result of the averaging procedure which includes the master + ALL of his vassals, whereas the team attitude towards a vassal only depends on the AI's attitudes towards the master + this one particular vassal -- the other vassals of the master are NOT included in the average.

Here Wang Kon once more is FRIENDLY towards the master. That's why none of his vassals can qualify for being chosen as WK's worst enemy since the averaged attitude cannot be lower than
[FRIENDLY + FURIOUS]/2 = CAUTIOUS.
The master needs more hated vassals to get his average to the required level
[FRIENDLY + FURIOUS + FURIOUS + FURIOUS]/4 = ANNOYED.

I disagree. If I like you but you agree to protect my mortal enemy, I'm going to like you a lot less. If I am neutral toward you and you start protecting my best friend, I'm going to like you more.

Just because you hate say,Tokugawa and Bismarck doesn't mean you have to take it out on there master,Ab Lincoln.

I disagree. If I like you but you agree to protect my mortal enemy, I'm going to like you a lot less.

Sometimes it can be completely unreasonable, like me vassalizing someone who had declared war on me two times and the leader who was previously Friendly with me starts disliking me because of "you have declared war on our friend!" modifiers with my vassal.

NOT CIV 4:
Spoiler :
This is from civ rev iphone. I was playing the beta centari (how do you spell it?) scenario where there are "raging barbs" and they are halfway to a domo victory!

Sorry that it isn't rotated.

Uh... I think this thread is only for Civ4... ;)

Was the worker somewhere else, or did that spot used to be above water?

or, in this case, the sea is always golder...

In this game, I am Willem (financial) - I think this is a big-and-small map.

Note that the coastal tiles in my control are 3 commerce - the ones outside my control are 4. Quite literally, everything looks better outside my borders - and always will.

In this game, I built collossus some time ago - but I am also past astronomy, so it is obsolete. Apparently, though, the game only figures that for my tiles ;)
