[GS] Future Update?

Second, the leaker said third expansion is possible He didn't say it is certain.
As above, he was trying to persuade us that he wasn't a leaker at the time so he was cagey about everything. The penny only dropped when another leaked list of Civs for GS matched perfectly with what he'd predicted, and then it was noticed that his username was 'AssemblingTyphoon'...

RF - Eras: totally new feature.
GS - Natural disasters: totally new feature.

No matter how much you gussy up trade, it is NOT a totally new feature. I quite agree it would be interesting and A Good Thing, but it's not a big enough peg to hang a new expansion on.

This goes back to the sad story of the development of Microsoft. Word 2 was not a bad word processor. But in every further release, instead of fixing things, Microsoft added new features and more bloat. Why? Because of their marketing department, who are not going to run an advertising campaign on the theme of "Hey, we fixed stuff that was broken" but instead, "Look at the new features: Object Linking and Embedding!". (Remember that? Ever used it?)

Civilization is not Microsoft Word, but it's still the case that Firaxis has a marketing department of some sort, and they may not be happy with a campaign for "Civilization VI: Merchant of Venice - now with better trade than it had before" - though I'm sure it would be fun. (And a good excuse to bring back Venice.)

OLE! That's a blast from the past. No I never really used it or saw the need for it and agree that product marketing thinks these things are great but real world users could care less about them.

My question which was raised earlier in this thread is will tell focus on fixing the AI and for example making it understand how to conduct naval and air ops?

Firaxis is hiring

It's probably for other projects and has nothing to do with Civ VI, but still worth mentioning here, who knows.

Edit: For World Builder they specifically say "to help take the team that brought you XCOM to the next level", while for Environment Artist they say " to help take the team that brought you Civilization VI to the next level". Interesting choice of words.

I'm guessing that XCOM 3 is somewhere in the offing, but I expect they are trying to make a new IP. You can't have too many cash cows.

We need someone qualified for one of these jobs, to get hired and work as our spy :espionage:. If you get caught, escape on foot, it's safer.
Luckily, listening posts have 100% success rate!

They were also hiring a few months ago, weren't they? Did they use wording like "to help take the team that brought you [game] to the next level" back then? Should we be using that wording, particularly in regards to Environmental Artist role, to speculate?

I remember one of the hyped "exciting" new features of the one version being that you got to choose what color underlines spell-check used.

You have to think about how a third expansion is going to be sold. "We made lots of little improvements" is not going to do it, and "we made resources more complicated" is not going to do it either.

Plague would be something new. "Civilization VI: In Sickness and in Health". I've been thinking about how it might work.

Something like this: every turn, there is say, a 2% chance of a potential plague outbreak, which would hit a randomly selected city that has no spare housing capacity (overcrowding breeds disease). Once a city has plague, it spreads each turn via a road connection OR a trade route. While plague is in effect, each turn the city loses one population (perhaps not the last pop). Plague lasts say 3-5 years in each infected city.

Once you reach the modern technologies, you can research Medical Science, which makes you immune to plague. Then in the information age there might be a tech called Biological Warfare, which would allow you to launch plague on any other civ that has not researched Biological Warfare.

Or something like that.

And I am not saying this would be a good thing or that I would like to see it.

However, a winter update is another thing, since that is where Firaxis can tweak things all they like. But I get the impression that a lot of tweaks that people have said they would like to see are mutually incompatible. We'll have to see. I wouldn't be expecting new civs, since that would require all the character animations, which must be a chunk of work.

Man, that's part of why I'm still pushing for a pre-sedentary prehistory/stone-age themed expansion. DAWN OF CIVILIZATION sounds pretty cool in my book.

And hey, if it's not in the cards for a 3rd expansion, you can get that Neolithic experience in Humankind.

I can't see a 3rd expansion happening. Each expansion, as opposed to an update, is centred around some major new mechanic - era score, and then climate. I can't see any of the ideas proposed above being major in that way. Most of them are tweaks, and you can't build an expansion out of tweaks. Suitable for an update, though.

If you are looking for new mechanics, you just have to look at the mods available for both civ 5 and civ6.
Here are some examples:

- Interactive events, decisions and quests.
An interactive event system can be added (remember the interactions of Beyond Earth or the Outback scenario).
Events can be random or guided in a mission system similar to the victory system of Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth.
It is a way to enhance the roleplay of your civilization as well as creating a story.
A lot of existing or news elements can be linked to this system (epithets, state religion, ethnicity, ideology,....)
Here are some pictures to get an idea (check the event and decisions for civ5, the JFD mods of Rule with Faith or all the wonderful work of Sukritact among others if you are interested in more examples).

- New Rankings, fairs, conventions and link these to, for example, the world congress.
For example, a scientific congress could be set up in the city with more science in the world, granting benefits to its owner, for the next call of the same, that city continues to come into play but with a penalty, etc.

- New content related to new ages like Colonization Era or the Enlightenment Era some even fantastic or anachronistic like the future, prehistory or steampunk (Maybe the latter were a bit controversial, but they are fun)

To all this, there are a lot of options that have already been discussed in this thread as Corporations, revamp of trade, new disasters, plague and a mechanic of health, etc ...
In short, I do see room for many new mechanics.

Regards
