Agreed. Mali are a very fun design, and I think are basically the “Venice” mercantile Civ we needed mechanically. I really like how they implemented extra trade routes for this Civ - very cool.
In terms of flavour, I think we maybe need a Civ like Italy / Venice that has that “collection of City States” feel, although in really different ways Pericles, Hungary and Georgia do sort of tick that box already.
Like I said, I really like the idea of an Italy/ Venice Civ, but I don’t know how that would work mechanically.
Whatever the (potential) expansion will be, I’m hoping it’s going to be more of a fleshed out mechanics expansion than just adding some districts here, units there, resources, ...
so for me something more like Rise and Fall than gathering storm (even though I love gathering storm)
You missed the point I was making. I was trying to point to there being 1000s of posts in these forums about how substandard the A.I. is. Until 2K gives Firaxis the time and monetary support to improve said A. I. adding more complexity to the current one is just going to make that situation worse. For what its worth I believe it can be done as Gal Civ III seems to have done a decent job of it, however Stardock has a better record of being more "customer friendly" than 2K.
The pessimist in me thinks that if they were going to announce a new expansion next week they would have given us a wink of some kind to tide us over during the Thanksgiving weekend rather than leaving us in limbo. As such, I've set my expectations to a spring 2020 announcement and summer release or no 3rd expansion at all, both of which leave me room to be pleasantly surprised.

What happens to the hopes of a third expansion if only a patch announcement takes place sometime next week. With no further information about future content?

Well, there are also many notions about civ6 being too easy. So for me the solution is quite simple: implement some challenges like the mentioned monopolies just for the human player.
I'm perfectly ok with asymmetric rules. Even find the demand, the AIs should abide to the SAME rules, quite funny - I mean, why not ask for the AIplayers having the SAME immersion & fun?
Unfortunately Firaxis has also to handle those players, who care about "cheating".
Still the release of some of the DLL sources would help us a lot.
&RailroadTycoon. It was amazing to find out, that in my first game I managed to make the best network and the most successful company, but lost as player, because only owned a minority of shares in the end and "my" company made the other players richer than me ... ... including the revenge: start and optimize for great numbers in the initial balance sheets, then sell all the shares and start a second company for real. Incredible game!
But did they ever add Wonder (or similar content) in a patch .... so if he's hinting Notre Dame is coming, it means either DLC or expansion. But how likely DLC is now after we haven't seen on in two years or something.
They have done Wonders as part of DLC packs before (definitely for Civ V, not sure about Civ VI) so it's not out of the realm of possibility he might be dropping a cheeky little hint... but yes, if we are getting a third expansion, Notre Dame was always going to have been a likely choice.
I dont know about you guys, but this is hint for me. That guy is being paid by Firaxis for what he's doing, so he dont have so much freedom as to say whatever he wants about game --- unless he's been given a little hint to start teasing.
