[GS] Future Update?

So much free time confined at home right now... and GameCore modding is still locked.

What are your options creating a corona mod as it is now Gegemon (just for laughters)?
Could you make an event in which gold reserve shrinks//banks/stock markets dissapear. And entertainment levels/happiness rise through the roof due to population sitting at home playing video games on steam/watching netflix. You can set the start date on 2020 :)

I don't know about that last part. There might be more time for games (though most of us are still working from home), but pretty much all sports, concerts, shows, and movies are cancelled. Travel is cancelled. Parks and libraries are closed. Entertainment is most certainly not through the rough.

I would argue that happiness is also not through the rough. Isolation causes sadness and depression in a lot of people. So does death.

We're off topic, though. Back to pointless speculation and build tracking!

@pokiehl, any chance that the present circumstances we all seem to be in one way or another is giving you the time to finalize your Civ improvements mod many of us are eager and waiting for? Any ETA?

2kqa_d updated. Runner and Plaid in quarantine.

It looks like they might be done with 2kqa_c now. Relegate it to the pile with 2kqa_a/b, Macqa, and Linuxqa.

Smokes have been updating 2 per week lately. We will have to see if that continues.

unless they rename it to runningfromfire i refuse to believe that there is any action about the latest xp/expansion

To my knowledge, this is the most intense branch spamming I've seen on Civ6.
If I didn't know better, it looks like Firaxis wants to do it right with this upcoming release...
And knowing that any release of content are 3+ months out, after announcement, makes me a sad Panda.

FXS has an old-school marketing/production method--they don't confirm anything until there's a release date three months away, with a PR campaign prepped.

Right?

Doesn't feel like we're getting any news any time soon. And if we get any announcement, my guess is we won't actually see any new content until 3 or 4 months later. The only positive thing about all this delay is just that it maybe suggests we're getting a full expansion, and it might have quite a bit of content given how much time they've had to develop it.

Separately, and not directed at this post specifically, but some of the chat around "we're all stuck at home, FXS should release more stuff" just feels jarring. I appreciate the sentiment, and yes I'd like some new content at the moment because frankly I'd like some distraction from all this news, but I feel like there are very big things going on and this just isn't the right comment to make about a global health emergency. A lot of people are going to lose jobs over Covid-19, and so will have to cut back discretionary spending. Beyond that, a lot of people don't have paid sick leave or health insurance, which is going to cause financial strain. Given that, the reality is that there are plenty of people that likely don't have the luxury of buying video games. The virus will also certainly have some impact on FXS as well, and how that factors into releasing content is anyone's guess.

I don't think people need to be scared or overly anxious about Covid-19. But it is going to cause enormous amounts of disruption for potentially many months, and have a real human cost, and there are serious risks which need to be understood and addressed.

Sorry. I'm not trying to be Maude Flanders screaming "why won't people think of the children!". If people want to keep speculating about games being delayed because of plague mechanics or say things basically like FXS should cash in on people being stuck at home by releasing content, or just "hey, making good of a bad situation, at least I can play more video games" then I can understand it and of course they can do that. It's not for me to judge. But to me that just feels like the wrong tone.

Really, I just hope everyone stays safe (FXS, people on this forum, family and friends, and everyone else), and I hope that people come out the other side of this okay in terms of family and work etc.

... but the barrier to entry [for Paradox games] is just way too high for me (and I think many others).

I've been playing around with EUIV for a few weeks. The learning curve is horrific, but I'm not convinced the game is really all that hard or complicated. It's more just the volume of stuff that's thrown at you, most of which isn't particularly intuitive or well explained. I'm liking EUIV overall, but it's a pity it doesn't allow the player to just pick up and start playing more.

There also seems to be just less written guidance for new players. Yes, there are very good intro videos and let's play. But I'd much rather read an good intro than sit through some video.

Anyway. EUIV is pretty good. Just a very different beast to Civ, even if it does end up scratching the same itch.

Codename Plaid reminds me of plaid-wearing Boudicca like in Civ 5. :) (I know it wasnt historical..)

Also, it was discovered several pages ago in this thread that one of the ladies who is an art designer for Civ 6 had concept pics of what appeared to be Boudicca. I don't know how they would go about putting her in the game though. I don't think they could make her an alt for Scotland. Would they make a "Celtic" civ even though we don't do blob civs anymore?

I could certainly see Runner being a Third Expansion, and then Plaid being a Leader Pack DLC focused on "classic" or "fan favourite" Leaders and Civs, Boudicca, Lizzie I, Napoleon, Lincoln etc. That would be pretty fun.

I could also see Plaid being a Barbarian themed DLC. A few "Barbarian" themed leaders like Boudicca, and or "Barbarian" themed Civ like the Gauls, and maybe some fun stuff like more unique units for Barbarians or a Barbarian related scenario.

My personal suspicion is that these are two mini-expansions. Probably a minor mechanic, some combination of new generic unit, new building, new district, new world/natural wonder, and X number of civs where X = (total # of mini expansions in this series) / 8.

It looks like 2kqa_d had a second update for the day shortly after the Smoke A update earlier.

Oo, that would be cool. Might that leader pack also include an extra civ as well (e.g. Iceni with Boudicca as the leader, since Celts is more of a blob) for more appeal to consumers? After all, I think many players - including myself - place more value in an entirely new civilization, as you get more historical representation and, perhaps most importantly, far more uniques than what an alternate leader would provide, since a civ gets two full unique bonuses, plus a unit, plus a building. I would agree that maybe they'd do a 'throwback' DLC with those sorts of leaders, but I think at least one of those returning leaders would be for a civ not yet in VI. That way, people will still be more interested in it even if they're not as keen on alternate leaders.

Does the frequency of updates on these things give us any hints toward how close we might be to an announcement and/or release?

I have no idea how it's going to play out. We are in terra incognita.

Yeah, that could be right too. Although maybe a bit disappointing all things considered.
I think it would be kind of cool, actually. I don't know if it needs one giant new mechanic but just some wrinkles. And if there's one of the few things they're working on that needs more work, it lets them put out the "ready for prime time" part earlier.

We are in terra incognita.

Agreed. Very hard to predict what may or may not happen. Very much uncharted territory. Just hope it’s good whatever happens.

— snip —

I think a GS sized expansion would be ideal, with a few key mechanics that all fit together.

But the truth is, we’re going to get what we get and that’s what it will be. Again, just hope it’s good whatever happens.

I don't want to promise any date, but very very close now!

(As an aside, the present circumstances have actually decreased my already sparse available time, unfortunately...)
