Hi,I know there are some absolute wizards at this game on the forum so I hope you can help.Im playing as Boudica,noble/terra/small/high sea level/huts. Gallics only realy come into there own with the guerrillaIII promotion(which is easy to get with Boudicas Cha/Agg)but ive found you need to start with it to have any chance of taking citys with 40%+ culture,so theocracy or feudilism is needed Asap.My best time so far is turn 68 to of chopped out 7 gallics, oracle in the 2nd city and researched monarchy. My builds were worker/barracks(till cap size 2)worker/settler/worker/finish barracks/gallics.The cap had lots of forest,1 gold, cow and corn.2nd city nearby with floodplain and bronze and some forest, built barracks then oracle. My tech path was Agr-Min-BW-Wheel-IW-Med-Priesthood-Writ-Monarchy.My scout scooped about 100gold so tech rate was 100%.So my question to the forum is whether this tech and build line are optimal,or can a few turns be shaved off following different routes?(sorry, ive put this in the wrong forum, and i cant see how to delete)

This post probably belongs in Strategy & Tips and not in the articles sub-forum.

I am a fan of the Celts. I would probably skip the Oracle/Monarchy strategy and just beeline Gallics via Iron Working, focusing my tech post-IW on economic recovery techs like Pottery, Writing, and the Cs (Currency, Code of Laws, possibly Calendar). With Charismatic's easy promotions, I think you're better off just getting more Gallics sooner (instead of putting your hammers in the Oracle) and just pounding the snot out of a neighbor earlier. Depending on your start and the map, you can actually take out two neighbors with Gallics alone before cultural defenses and axemen start to ruin your day.

Thanks slobber,I just realised post is in the wrong place, but ive tried going to edit/delete but cant find delete button.

Guerrilla III gets +25% hills attack. Does this mean you get the +25% when you attack from a hill, or when the defender is on a hill?

Wreck: The +25% affects the defender, so it only applies when the defender is on a hill.

The 50% withdraw chance is in effect any time you attack with the unit.

SillyGoat: that is logical! But do you know that is how it works, or just think it?

50% withdrawal for a unit with 4EP is nice. It does seem to me that you can get 1EP per unit without having to tech to Theocracy or Vassalage, by two means. One is to attack as early as possible, and only go for his offensive units and weaker cities (20% or less). That is, a war for experience. The second is to settle a great general, which would be a likely outcome of your first war anyway.

Once you have 3-4 GWs with GuerillaIII, you can attack about anywhere with 3 defenders. Use the GIIIs to open the attack, hoping for either luck or withdrawal. Then you use 3EP GWs as the mop-up crew, to take out any weakened defenders. Using 4 attackers you expect to lose about 1 or 2 of them. You should easily replace that by getting 1 EP with all the mop-up guys.

Also, fast moves on hills might help you in taking a poor defended city in the opening turns of the war, thus promoting some of your man.

Not having GIII is a problem. The oracle is not a solution, it's an additional problem. More Gallics and accepting losses is a solution.

Know. :)

When you check the odds of an attack (by pressing "ALT" and hovering the cursor over the target) it gives you the breakdown of attacker/defender boni. The G3 hills attack (like the Woody3 forest attack) only applies when attacking into a terrain.

It can be devastating when attacking units (such as most mounted) that do not benefit from the terrain bonus.

The reasons I go for oracle/feudalism are obviously the Guerilla III,it enables early vassal states, but also the longbows, when there built in a city with a dun you get the guerilla I free, upgrade to GuII(so they can keep up with the gallics)then shock and youve got perfect counter to axes-which are major problem if gallics are in the open.I got my personal best score with this stratagy 80943 conquest 1300ad.(without building any catapults)
