OK. One better. I've been looking at some uniforms in an Osprey Men-at-Arms book on the Japanese Army 1942-45 and think I have the color nailed pretty well here...

How about this for a Japanese Marine. Basically out of the same Osprey book.

And a Giretsu Kūteitai unit or Airborne Special Forces unit formed in late 1944.

EDIT: Here's a couple Giretsus to choose from. I think maybe the second one looks closer to the pic in the book.

One of the problems I had with my Mauser 98 pack was that the German helmets didn't look really German at civ scale. The helmets made the figures look little different from any other unit, British, American or whatever. I've been playing around with lighting and different helmets to try to come up with something that looks German even at civ scale. I've probably shot a hundred animation frames trying to come up with the perfect German helmet. This is what I have so far.
