[GS] Gathering Storm General Discussion Thread

I didn't see that before. It rephrases it differently on the first paragraph of the article right beneath the video.

That's interesting, they don't contradict but also don't confirm one another. Hmm, well I guess if they change the from soon that could be a sign :D That summary paragraph seems to be linking the unique governor to a leader or civ too.

Hmm, the changes are extensive, but I'll hold off on declaring it nearly a new game, personally. Much of R&F slipped in very smoothly, limiting the additive feel. I would expect similar in this one, limiting the effect of the additions. We'll see in the weeks to come if my reservations are justified.

I do think it'll integrate quite well with the existing game, the changes at the moment seem to me to be enhancing the experience and making the map more dynamic, think they're trying to push civ in new directions without shaking things up too much. Really looking forward to interactions with the landscape.

I hope so. I'm hoping the disasters don't come across as gimmicky in the gameplay.

First of all: Hall of fame!!! Finally!
:banana::band::banana:

Super excited about civs having multiple color schemes: have you ever seen France and Mapuche or England and Gorgo or Tamar and Japan next to each other?
Or Spain and Kongo as in my current game. Very nice quality of life adjustment.

I am sad about British Museums.
Me, too. I think I'll play one last game with them after my current game. Of course, you can always go back to an older rule set. But I can't imagine I'll want to once this expansion is out.

I don't mind the price tag since we are getting so much new content. This expansion is essentially 2 expansions worth of content rolled up into 1.
Except it's still only eight new civs, while the fan community wants twice that before they're done. But I agree the price tag is justified given the content.

Edit: By the way, WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT RAILROADS BEING BACK????
I KNOW! Probably because we have no real info about which to talk. :p

does this number of 18 new units include uniqe units to civs or it is 18 new + 8 uniqe = 26 total new units
Pretty certain the new unique units are part of the 18 total new units.

Interestingly (on the last point) the Civ Site mentions the "18 units" part under the "other content" at the end, possibly indicating that there will be a total of 28ish new units.

I am probably missing some things but to give you an idea of how massive this expansion is, here is a (partial) list of all the new stuff:
- 7 natural disasters
- climate change mechanic
- canals
- railroads
- dynamic tile yields
- grievances
- diplomatic favor
- world congress
- world games
- Hall of fame
- power and consumable resources
- new tech and civics future era ( 9 new techs and 10 new civics)
- 9 new leaders
- 8 new civs
- 9 new unique units
- 4 new unique buildings
- 3 new unique improvements
- 2 new unique districts
- 1 new unique governor
- 7 new wonders
- 7 new natural wonders
- 18 new units
-15 new tile improvements
- 9 new buildings
- 5 new districts
- 2 new city sets
- landmarks have names
- new map generation based on tectonics
- new build queue
- enhanced espionage system with new options
- Updated Culture and Science victories.
- New diplomatic victory
- New historic moments
- rebalanced governor abilities
- rebalanced civ abilities
- 2 new scenarios

I guess I forgot how much R&F costed, because I am used to dishing out lots of money for Sims 4 expansions, and they offer far less than Civ ones. This seems pretty worth to me. I can almost forgive the lack of Vietnam, but boy am I hoping for a third expansion with Vietnam. Hopefully our prophet AssemblingTyphoon was right on there being even more to come!

Super hyped for everything in this expansion though. It all looks great!

Hmm tho I don't see them introducing a civ with two new leaders thoith unless they are doing a Polynesian blob civ. A new leader for an existing civ seems more exciting/marketable.

The Eleanor as alt for two civs does actually seem pretty feasible to me. Though I agree the art for her and Kristina look a lot more "Disney princess" than most of their art which is a little suspect. Also something about both the civ list leaks give me the vibe of someone trying to get a Hungarian civ in by pure force of will, but maybe I'm overly skeptical.

If they are going to make us pay $40 for this then they have got to do a better job of patching the game afterwards and fixing the AI. There was what, one or two patches for Rise and Fall? Most game companies these days do a better job of updating their games and keeping in touch with their playerbase than Firaxis.

I'm more convinced about Eleanor's concept art than the in-game art, especially after @Zaarin mentioned it. I agree that a leader for an existing civ would be more exciting, but thinking about a possible double-leader civ will be interesting to me until we get confirmation either way :)

Of course Seondeok changed so much so there's a lot of stuff that could've happened between the leak image and her current model. The idea of a unique governor is really interesting to me too.

Does anyone have any idea what “2 new city sets” means? Surely this isn’t a typo to mean “city states”, right?

someone think the worldbuilder would get better and finally fixed in this expansion? I hope wars gets harder and mutch more challenging now. if not the game would feel more like a building game and i would not like it even if they added alot of cool stuff it seems now

I'd have a hard time believing a new civ will be given two leaders before a second one goes to an existing civ.
It does make some sense though. Particularly if there are mechanics tied to the new xpac. Along those lines if you want to release additional leaders as DLC since not everyone will have the xpac in which to be potential buyers of that DLC. So release a new civ with 2 leaders now, and then release the older civ additional leaders as DLC.

I mentioned on the other thread that it might be new city architecture. Polynesian architecture definitely for the Maori. Hopefully Sudo-Sahelian mudbrick architecture for Mali.
