So I took the time to process and gather my thoughts after the announcement of the new expansion, because there is A LOT to take in.
I love the dynamic environments and the natural disasters.
I've never actually wanted canals in the game - but not in a "I hate them" sort of way. I've always seen them as a cool concept but have viewed them with a but of apathy. I guess it's neat to see them here.
FINALLY! Diplomatic victory! More dynamic diplomacy! World Congress motherfathers! Finally they can get the emergency system to good use! And replacing warmongering with grievances is a very welcome change.
I also like the global warming/climate change mechanic. Although since this mechanic seems dependent on the player's actions in the environment, I wonder if they will take into account times in human history when there was a significant change in the climate without human intervention, like the Medieval warming period or the Little Ice Age?
Ditto this quote:
However, the Global Warming mechanic has always been problematic... the game forces you to industrialize to compete, but then punishes you for doing so. Making it work is a highwire balancing act that Firaxis hasn't got right yet.
Overall I am genuinely HYPED and excited for this expansion!
However, besides the civs and leaders that are going to be included in this expansion, there is one major worry that I have:
$40 price tag for this one
... and with all the dynamic features that this expansion has I'm worried about how this will affect my computer's graphics and performance. That is my major main worry about this one.
