[GS] Gathering Storm Screenshots Discussion Thread

You know the more I think about it what if the Cothon turns out to be a unique canal district

A unique district replacement for the Canal might well be something the development team would prefer to add, instead of a second unique Harbour.

Arguing against, that, the Cothon literally was a harbour. But, it was an inland harbour. So unlike the current Harbour district, which is placed on a water tile, they may want to place it on a land tile, the same way the Canal is placed.

It would seem weird, though, to have a Cothon and regular Harbour in the same city. So will the Cothon replace the Canal, but serve the same purpose as both a Canal and Harbour, and get the Harbour buildings on a Canal district?

Or maybe the leaks are wrong and the Cothon is actually a Wonder rather than a unique district.

It might as well be a unique building inside the harbor, which is what I favor right now. It's a shipyard that is available much earlier and gives the harbor district defenses and more gold.

I don't think it's a building, mostly because it said +2 for each adjacent Cothon, which suggests it's a District. It's adjacency bonus also fits with that of a Harbor really, since Commerical Hubs gain +2 for each adjacent Harbor (love the City Center, Harbour, and River CH triangle myself).

Btw, has anybody got a sight of a forest where trees have leaves AND are not palms at the same time? Or is it still only firs/spruce and palms? If this is the case AND if Canada is in... immersion breaking&litterally unplayable, etc.

When do you think we can expect new video ... either first look or live stream or something else .... is next week realistic

Next week seems to fit with last year's pattern, mostly.

In general, first looks were on Tuesdays; Wonder videos were on Fridays; & livestreams, when they had them, were on Wednesdays. I would expect at least something next week.

I might just be forgetting something that is already in the game, but i don't recognize this from the Golden Gate screenshot, near the solar farm and the space port:

Based on it's size and modern looking buildings I am guessing another late game wonder.

I think that's a Missile Silo. Built by Military Engineers.

It has an antenna but also a radar. Could it be for missile defense or maybe weather, partially mitigating the damage of storms? It has roads like a district and the antenna and other things look like buildings.

Its abundance of small buildings and roads made me wonder if it is a new district, but districts are all colour-coded, with coloured roofs on the buildings to match this (as seen on the Neighborhood in the foreground). It is also, in my opinion, too small and non-distinct to be a wonder, so my bet's on it being an improvement.

Don't think it's the missile silo, however. I see no place where a missile could exit upon launch, and I don't think the missile silo has that many buildings.

The connection to the rail system makes it look like a district, but it has no distinct colour scheme - other than beige. Is beige a good colour for a district? considering the rest of the colour palette the art team is using?

District or improvement, it could be environmental related. There's a water tank on the left, and what looks like a fire spotting tower on the right. The main features, though, other than the non-descript industrial complex in the centre, are the eight cylinders arranged around the facility. Which maybe could be petro-chemical related, except nothing else in the facilty suggests a petro-chemical facility?

I'm at a loss, but I think identifying the purpose of the cylinders is the key.

It's the usual missile silo graphics. Nothing new.

With regards to the mysterious wonder we've seen on one of the screenshots, I've gone through some relevant architecture and history books and didn't find anything even closely resembling it. I doubt that it still exists in more then completely crumbled form. Maybe it's a very, very free interpretation of the baths in Mohenjo Daro.

I also had the thought that for the new futuristic era, they might invent some wonders. Not that the mysterious wonder would be one of those - it surely belongs in the first eras of the game, despite the onion domes and the hydraulic requirements.

A detail I had deemed unimportant at first: The "Governors" screen now has some leeway to the left and right. Combined with the announced feature that one of the new leaders/civs comes with a "unique governor", this may imply an additional (eight) governor slot for that leader/civ.

Regarding the mysterious archer unit with bandanas, given Eleanor of Aquitaine's association with the Robin Hood legends, could it possibly be a unique bandit/ merrymen unit?
