[GS] Gathering Storm Screenshots Discussion Thread

Bit odd you need to know how to build a Dam before you can research Cartography.
At least now you won't have the option of skipping over the entire Medieval period by researching something.
I find it weirder that you can learn about rocketry before advanced flight.

Agree. The tech layout is better - making Military Tactics more relevant (God, I hope Pikes get improved (ie cheaper, better promotions, situational buffs)) and stops people rushing Frigates. I’m okay with the change. But I still think Butressing is a weird pre-requisite.

It is a bit of a weird prerequisite. Id think it more logical between like construction and castles.

It is also odd to basically leave celestial navigation as the only leaf tech (definitely weakening harbors).

Not so far off: Chinese were firing off gunpowder rockets in Medieval Era, Congreve rockets were being used by the British in there Napoleonic Wars, and Goddard's experiments with 'modern' rockets started in the 1920s, when most aircraft were still biplanes and you could practically count the number of multi-engined designs in use on the fingers of one hand.

Of course, 'scaling up' Goddard's work to useful size (the A-4 or V-2) took another 20 years, but even then it was only about 5 years behind the earliest all-metal 4-engine bomber that Advanced Flight requires...

Shame that airports still don't provide extra tourism. I wish they would reconsider.

The best part about being a modder is that if you think you can add on to or change FXS's decisions, you can easily do so. :p
:goodjob:
playing CIV: build an empire, rule the world, stand the test of time ... (under given rules)
modding CIV: create the world, make the rules, be GOD ... (watching the AIPlayers "build" their empires)

Edit: Have I already mentioned, that we still need some Source Files?!

Except that some of us want the un-modded experience ;).

Any new shots from the live stream?

To pull a quote from the civ4 game manual- "Did scientists need flight to develop rocketry, or could they simply have been inspired by artillery?"
They've been pulling the wool over our eyes for 15 years!
As mentioned, the hwacha unit is literally firing rockets at stuff. They just had to find someone insane enough to realize we could strap humans on top of them.

I was listening in while at my desk at work.

Uniques WILL require strategic resources.

I also gather that you will accumulate a stockpile and then build units removing resources from the stock pile as you build. You MUST have at least ONE resource of the type to build the unit in order for it to heal.
And there a cap on how many resources you can hold thus creating an artificial cap on the amount of units you could possibly build at one time due to a limited stockpile.

Units that require resources that is. As not all do.

Can anyone get good quality pictures of all the different type of generic units that are now being added ?
