Gauntlet Suggestions

Should be won before cuirs, I think. Remember, target date to beat is 325 AD.
You're not playing on a micro-pangaea. It's large, boreal. You'll never beat 325 AD on these settings.

Keshiks do sound really cool but I cannot think of any Keshik-based strategy that will win you domination here: on a boreal map you'll go broke real quick when HA-rushing, and won't be able to push till the domination limit. Maybe if the goal was conquest it could be fine, but domination seems really tricky. 1-movement units won't really cut it either, so I think cuirs will give the quickest win here. An early engineering bulb would probably be good too, assuming you're not playing with the Romans.

I don't mind playing with the Romans because there is 0 chance to get the first slot with this game. But if I were to chose another leader it would probably be either Louis or Gandhi (both mostly for the Mids + GW and Gspy(s)). Playing this map with a much tougher mix of opponents could be fun aswell. (All warmongers on a boreal map?)

Easy, Pedro ;)
325AD is good but nothing special on Epic imo, some days ago i submitted 25AD with Kublai for standard size epic deity and i did some things that could be improved.

These games work different, Cuirs is just way too slow.

edit, forgot to add that was conquest..i think domination would be faster, as you can ignore that one strong AI with longbows, Pikes and that kind of stuff. I could have in my game.

Maybe my above post was a bit rough, didn't really watch out :undecide:

I've never played on Epic speed, and I'm sure you have way more experience than I do, Fippy. But here's what I assumed when writing my post (please correct me if I'm wrong):
  • When you have a "fast" start, you can start conquering early and "snowball", assuming that you have enough commerce not to go into STRIKE mode
  • On a boreal map, land gives very low commerce which forces you to stop expanding very quickly, and makes you unable to sustain extended early conquest
  • Therefore you need a way to sustain your economy on a boreal map. There are only 2 ways that I know of to tech fast on this kind of map: Mids and Spies (better to combine both, right?). And you can't really go for Mids+Construction rush, right? If you switch to Police State you lose all your bpt and can't keep teching while waging war, which means you won't be in a very good position when your catapults become obsolete. This naturally leads me to Cuirs.
I don't think domination is easier than conquest on a boreal map because there is much more land than on a pangaea, which makes it longer to fill.
Now I'm maybe overestimating the difficulty of Boreal maps, so I'll play some of these (on epic speed lol) before I post some more uninformed thoughts ;)

You don't need commerce to avoid STRIKE, you need gold. There's plenty of ways to generate that apart from working commerce tiles. ;)

The land is pretty poor, but the AI also suffers from this. As a human player you should be better at adapting to the circumstances, which should give you a bigger advantage over the AI. The map is mostly covered in forest, which is great for you, but severely impairs the AI. Though I'm still not sure how this will play out, never tried domination on a flat map. The amount of land will make it challenging indeed. On a flat map it is also harder to block off land for the final settling burst than it is on landmasses surrounded by ocean.

Skillful vassaling could play a big part here. I expect to see some peace vassals and possibly some capitulation shenanigans.

The problem with UN, religious, and espionage/culture on large/huge is they can be done without expanding out of your starting area. Or even beyond one city. Kinda defeats the point of doing a big map.
Where's the love for Time games? :mischief:

If anyone seriously tried max score in huge + marathon Time victory, they might submit the game and be rejected for going over the 2MB file size limit.

I should fire up that 11 million score game, take it to 2050AD, and check the file size.

Here are the main things we are looking for in gauntlets.

  • Unusual/interesting game setup
  • Maximum participation
  • Atrractive to non-HOF players

If you have an idea that fits in with the above, let us know. Give us as many details as you can about the game setup.

If someone suggests an idea that you like, also let us know in this thread.

Just remember that posting about an idea in here doesn't mean that we will use it in exactly the form you have proposed (or even at all).
Just a reminder we are always looking for suggestions, I'm thinking of doing an OCC Minor Gauntlet for February as we promised more of them!
